Title: Greenhouse
Mother Nature - April 16, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
[A large greenhouse that lies outside of the school in the rear and contains various exotic plant life and is often used for Herbology class.]
Jacob - September 9, 2007 02:11 AM (GMT)
Jacob enters the greenhouse and immediately his nostrils are assaulted by the plethora of smells coming from the various plant life growing within this building. The air is slightly humid; sticky. It does not bother the gypsy much though. This was practically a second home for him. A refuge.
As the glass door shuts behind him, Jacob spots Professor Kipper already in place by the far wall. There were no seats in here, though the professor rarely kept them in the greenhouse for the entire class session unless necessary. He approaches more cautiously than he had been on the journey here, taking a moment to nod a hello to Professor Kipper. (Wonder what we are doing today...)
Dmitri Dzugasvili - September 9, 2007 07:47 PM (GMT)
Dmitri enters the greenhouse and his senses of sight and smell are hit instantly, the colours and smells of the plants making the sticky air almost tangible. While most people don’t like being in a greenhouse, Dmitri enjoys the change, 6 months ago, he was in the middle of a Russian winter and now it’s springtime on Avalon, so yeah, change is good.
The glass door shuts behind him and Dmitri nods to Professor Kipper and he makes his way along the greenhouse to take a place next to Jacob. He offers the blonde boy a friendly smile as he takes off his bag and puts it on the floor, tucking it out of the way so that no-one trips on it.
Sera Cartel - September 11, 2007 05:22 PM (GMT)
Sera opens the door of the greenhouses, being hugged by the smells of millions of exotic plants from around the world. Of course, being a druid, Sera loves wildlife. It is just something that comes naturally to her, like a gypsy being good with potions or a witch being good with spells. Whatever the case, whenever Sera was in Herbology class, she could just ignore everyone else and have a good time.
But that didn't mean she would start talking to people and acting like everything was okay again. Sera stands towards the rear of the greenhouse, Sera keeps her bag on her shoulders and gives Professor Kipper a small smile. Most of the teachers around Magic School know that Sera isn't much of a talker, but is the studious and general good student.
(If I don't bug them, they don't bug me...)
David Kipper - September 14, 2007 06:00 AM (GMT)
Professor Kipper looks up from his prep notes as students begin to file into his classroom. He greets each one with a genuine smile as he feels quite at home in the greenhouse. Some may have found it strange that a man would be inherently comfortable amongst botanics, and yet it feels perfectly natural to him. And hey, plants didn't talk back-most of the time.
(Of course we do have certain precautions for such a thing. Not that the students would ever encounter one under my watch.)
David shakes his head in silent chiding. He was wandering off far too early, he'd have to wait until he was at least halfway through the lesson so they actually managed to appear productive.
Maddi - September 23, 2007 11:04 PM (GMT)
Maddi slips in through the door only two minutes late. What? She can't help it, the school is so big, and at least it is only 2 minutes. Not like she missed the whole class period. Hoping that she didn't miss anything, she notes that there aren't any desk. (Ok, this might be easier then expected) So she stands next to the back wall.
Not letting her bag slip to the floor immediately she pulls out a notebook and a pen then lets it slip down to the floor. While there is no desk to put them on she balances the notebook in one hand, she runs a free hand through her hair, getting it out of her eyes. Now ready, her eyes roam around the class room.
David Kipper - September 30, 2007 05:28 AM (GMT)
David smiles as the last of his students file into the classroom, leaving him open to start his instruction. With a soft clap of his hands to gain their attention, Professor Kipper Kipper reaches behind himself and grasps hold of the particular root he intends to introduce.
"Well, I'm glad we've all settled in. I suppose it's time we cut to the chase, hm?" The dark haired man smiles wryly. He does not expect an overly enthusiastic response. Herbs never seemed to be a favorite of the students, not to say there wasn't exceptions, but for the most part he was on his own passion wise.
"This," He pauses to display his specimen, "Is a Mandrake root. Something I imagine you've all probably heard of at least once in your time at the school. This of course is because of the immense magical properties it holds." He places the root down and softly rests his eyes upon his students.
Now, can anyone happen to name one? I could list them off of course, but I think we both know that a little interactivity can be a welcome change."
Sera Cartel - October 9, 2007 02:28 PM (GMT)
Sera watches as the students file in the class, gently weaving out of the way to not draw too much attention to herself. She hates whenever a teacher calls on her. Everyone looks expectantly at her, usually causing her to flush red and stumble on her words. Shaking her head slightly and crossing her arms over her chest, she side steps away from the other students so she can make sure that she has a good view of the lesson.
As Professor Kipper pulls out the Mandrake Root, Sera tilts her head softly to the side. Her eyes spark with interest, having read about Mandrake root one day during a random library visit. After Professor Kipper asks the class the question, Sera looks away from him. She has learned over the years that if you don’t look at the teacher, there is a better chance that they won’t call on you.
(Properties of Mandrake…Maintaining health…Money and wealth…and I believe they can be used in protection rituals…) She thinks to herself, answering the question but not bothering to speak out.
Jacob - October 23, 2007 03:23 PM (GMT)
Jacob shuffles his feet, fighting the desire to raise his hand like the geek he is. A quick glance around the room shows that - as usual - no one seems even remotely interested in this class. (They are all probably here because they figured it was an easy A. Either that or everything else was filled up.)
Another moment passes without a reply from anyone. Unable to bear it any longer, Jacob raises his hand. However, he doesn't even bother waiting to be called upon before answering the question. "The mandrake root is a versatile herb that is pretty versatile. One of its primary uses is as a basic power booster in performing spells and making potions."
Dmitri Dzugasvili - October 26, 2007 01:47 PM (GMT)
Dmitri is the next person in the class to raise his hand, it might appear that he's not very interested in the class, but the fact of the matter is, he is interested in the class, he's interested in all of his classes, he just doesn't like to be the first to offer an answer. Mandrake root, protective properties, commonly used in vanquishing potions according to that book in the library.
Dmitri's hand goes up just as Jacob finishes his answer, but unlike his blonde classmate, he waits to be called on by the teacher. His free arm moves across his stomach and his hand rests down by his hip in an almost lazy fashion. It is also associated with money and wealth, he mentally adds on to the answer he's preparing in his head.
David Kipper - November 1, 2007 05:07 AM (GMT)
David smiles at Jacob and nods to affirm his answer. "Well done, Jacob. It is indeed an extremely versatile root- something which the rest of you would do well to note. Never underestimate the aid it can give you in times of need. As Jacob has also noted, it is commonly used to assist with spells and potions. Of course one needs to make sure to take the utmost of care when doing s-"
The professor pauses as he catches sight of a lone hand waiting for his acknowledgment. "My apologies Dmitri, Care to enlighten us further?"
Dmitri Dzugasvili - November 4, 2007 08:41 PM (GMT)
My apologies Dmitri, Care to enlighten us further?
Dmitri drops his hand back down to his side as the professor calls him to add on to what Jacob and the professor had said. It’s times like this that he’s glad that he did the work that he should have done. While Dmitri’s probably one of the least magically experienced people in the school, he does a lot of reading in his spare time so he knows a fair amount of magical theory, but not much on the practical application side of it all.
“Mandrake root also has protective properties, which is part of why it is such a common ingredient in vanquishing potions,” he says, recalling what he found in several of the books in the library, “and I believe it can be used in spells to do with money and wealth, as well.” At the end of his response Dmitri offers a quick nod to signify that he’s done with his response.
