Title: Noisy Gears

Jasper - January 31, 2008 11:44 AM (GMT)
I have a few Furbies who have very noisy inner workings, and sometimes they sound as if they're grinding (but don't seem to cause any other problems). Should I be worried? How can I remedy this? Will they quieten down the more they play?

I have the same problem... I just found a Furby Baby at a Goodwill, and he has a bit of a noisy gear. I am very interested in what Dr. Rob has to say on this subject.

Noisy gears are only a worry if the gears begin to grind so much that the Furby's movements are slowed down.

Also, occasionally the gears may get so loud that it's hard to hear the Furby speak, which is obvioiusly a problem.

Oiling can sometimes quieten down the gears (standard oil that you use for door hinges etc, not heay duty stuff or car oil). Direct the nozzle down the ear opening and squeeze out just a tiny amount of oil, then pump the ears up and down to get the oil to spread around.

The effect normally isn't noticed until the Furby has been started up a couple of times, but if there's not much improvement after a while, you can try inserting a second lot of oil.

Hope this helps!
