Fayik - June 30, 2007 04:16 AM (GMT)
Dr. Rob,

My good friend over the internet is having issues with his furby, it seems to always go to sleep, after he is woken up.

Here is a video:

~Fayik (Thanks for any help! Good night.)

Heya... Unfortunately this is a common problem with Furbys. I don't know why they do it, however I do know how to fix it but it is one of the most difficult operations. I suspect you will find that the Furby has a bad motion sensor which means when you tip him he doesn't do anything. The Furby makers built a 'glitch' into the Furbys programming so that if it falls over in the middle of the night without human contact, it will go straight back to sleep. Unfortunately, I've never seen this work. All that happens is that if the Furby's motion sensor stops working, it won't wake up.
The operation involves resoldering a number of small wires to the motion sensor, or replacing it altogether. I've had limited success with this, about half of the Furbys work again fine and the others still don't wake up first time but always wake up second time.
Me sleep again.
