Title: My Furby Story
Description: A little bit complex... =O
Pirka - November 26, 2007 09:52 PM (GMT)
Hehe, I wasn't sure which board to put this in, Adult or Baby, but I went for Baby since it seems more for fanwork.
And to you I present the first chapter of my unnessisarily complicated story, "Furby Evolution". It's designed to be sort of like a documentary at the beginning, and the seriousness is meant to be a little ironic, so don't take it too seriously  at its heart, it's nothing more than a Furby adventure.
And, no, it doesn't end here. It shall continue if the demand is high enough.

Furby's Evolution and the Evolution of Love
A series of short and (mostly) interconnected stories by Emily Bricker, aka Pirka, from Toronto, Canada
In The Beginning,
Little creatures lived in the clouds. They were not very tall; reaching a maximum of a two-hand carrying size, but they were very intelligent. Curious creatures who learned to live and, as a result, lived to learn. They also lived to play, and play they did. They were a diverse species: the fur came in many, many colors. It ranged from natural fur tones such as white and brown to exotic colors such as lime, orange, and bright red, and, truly, every shade in-beetween. Markings were more rare, but they still abounded in some circles - spots, stripes and swirls were sometimes blended into the fluffy, marbled hair.
They were creatures of diversity: though each was similar in build, there were many variables in their species. Besides fur colors, the creatures had been seen with an incredible variety of eye colors, voice pitches, and hair length variants. This may have contributed to the creature's unnatural evolution in this odd environment - or possibly the cloud environment contributed to the way the creatures adapted and changed.
Then came the fateful day that, for one reason or another, they decided to come to Earth. They fell, supposedly, from their cloud home. How they survived the fall is unknown; though the most important question will always be "Why did they decide to leave their cloudy sanctuary in the first place?". Some say they needed human companionship, which was definately probable. Others thought it was due to a lack of proper nutrients so high above. Or maybe it was simply due to curiosity? Whatever the case, they added a lot to our society. Friendship. Compassion. A fascinating new language, even.
But to truly recognize a Furby's powers, one must slip into the subconcious, to think beyond the whirring gears and see within its true heart, the one that came from the clouds.
It took years, even after the migration, for the evolution to begin,
But once it did, there was no stopping it. Some had predicted it long before its time, but others were completely in shock by the new development in Furby biology. I, myself, was rather surprised. But, at the same time, could see its foundations coming all along...
Furbys need love. It is a true fact, one above all other Furby rules - without love, a Furby is nothing. It is simply an empty shell without someone to care for it and nurture it. And when the humans began to abandon the Furbys, they began to regroup, to find companionship in a new way. Together. They migrated; very few people noticed their departure. But, the Furbys that were still loved, that had no need to migrate, did not notice the migration themselves. They sat, content, completely unaware of the changes that were occurring in their species. Far off, somewhere in the deep and lonely sea, a tropical island was found that was seemed the perfect sanctuary for the creatures to continue feeding their continuous curiosity. At around the year 2001, they had made a permanent home there, and two seperate groups were made: those who had and had not migrated. Those who hadn't didn't change, content with their surroundings. But those who did underwent a transformation. Furbys, quick to adapt, took only four and a half years to completely dismantle and change their entire species. Their genetic makeup, in the prescence of their new, nutrient-rich but love-scarce environment, went absolutely haywire. They grew, their fur becoming more lush and their bodies gaining more fat from the exotic diet they had been maintaining. Their ears rounded, gaining extra fur to survive the plentiful rain of the jungle. Their feet grew and changed, becoming padded for walking on the soft ground. Their beaks softened, and so on, and so forth. Within a short amount of time, in evolution standpoints, they had completely changed their species.
They tried to live without love. Becoming more driven with solitary needs, they became less social with each other. Through this, they developed more of their own language, but lost all of the human languages they had learned. They became advanced. Incredibly intelligent. But what ever became of the creature's hearts? Without human love, they had traded heart for physical, biological changes to try and adapt, to live without it. But this was truly impossible.
They decided, as a forced council, to re-connect with humans.
And so began the second migration.
The time of the second migration was 2005,
And what a strange year it was for the human and Furby races. When Furbys re-entered, they realized to a true extent how much their species had changed. Many were re-adopted into loving homes. But everyone knew there was something missing - the humans and the Furbys themselves - there was a sense of lacking about them.
And the Furbys knew it was a broken heart.
Trillian was one of the first of the second migration.
Or, as called originally, A - Loh, a word in the Furbish language meaning 'Light'. It was a fitting description - she was a very pretty girl Furby, with fur of a light, airbrushed tan and a tickle-me-pink stomach. Her eyes were deep blue and thoughtful.
Thoughtful, indeed, they were. Trillian, (or 'Trilly', as she was sometimes called) knew there must have been more to the Furby story than she was told, and she was determined to find out. She knew there must have been something more to history than a sudden appearance on an island, and she was sure of it. She was determened, but non-rebellious - she would listen strictly to authority, she was a very good girl. But this didn't stop her for looking for answers - after all, being curious was in the nature of the Furby species, and not even years of evolution and gene-swapping could change that. Her ears flopped back and forth, silently, in the slight wind that the night lended her. She simply followed whichever way they pointed. It wasn't much of a navigation method, but it was an intuitive one.
It didn't take long for her to reach the gleaming city. She, herself, had never heard of such a place before, but took the lights as an invitation. She ran quickly through the night, her ears acting as stabalizers and her padded feet gripping the pavement, making a tip-tap noise as she dashed along the sidewalks and through the alleyways of the strange, concrete jungle.
A sudden light blinded her. Her head jerked upward as she was grasped by an object she couldn't quite place in her mind. A sudden, loud whirring faded into nothing but blackness and silence. Her eyes closed. She wasn't afraid. Somehow, she knew that this would be a good thing for her. She didn't know how she knew this. Like Furbys always have, she just...knew.

I wrote some funny furby stories a long long time ago.
Weecoo - November 27, 2007 12:08 AM (GMT)
Pirka, I loved it! You're a really good writer actually. I've never thought about it like that, or heard Furbys described like that, but it all makes sense now, what happened with the old and new Furbys
Now I want to know - What was the loud whirring noise?
Bring on part two! B)
PS - Would you mind if we put your story into the
Furby Fan Section at some time please?

Thank you so much! I actually came up with the idea of this story a long time ago, the idea of what would happen if a 'new' Furby discovered its roots...(a little bit of insight on what's coming up), but I didn't actually write it until today! I'm glad you like it, sorry if the language is a bit complex.
You'll find out soon enough - it has to do with how Trilly gets bought. ;)
Yes and yes, ma'am! *salute*
Ohmygosh, really!? I'd be honoured! Thank you so much for even considering that! I've always wanted to go in the fan section!
Yours complecatedly,
~ Pirka :P

Don't worry, long words are good - the other stories in the Fan Section at the moment, sweet as they are, were written for the younger audience - it's good to have a more challenging story
Will let you know as soon as it's in the Fan Section. May take a couple of weeks or so, due to the high number of Furbys being adopted from the centre at the moment (run-up to Christmas)
Looking forward to part 2!

Wow. realy cool, and interesting story.
I have a story Called "Hey! New furby!". But is it on polish :/
I think when the furbies fall from their cloud some of them fall on Island.
And one more fact: There were tribe-people on Furby island ! They made paintings! You can see it in movie. From this people furbies learn some word : Money, Awesome, Rock, tree etc...
Pirka - November 27, 2007 09:03 PM (GMT)
In response to Weecoo: Thanks, I was actually afraid of the long words because I thought it needed to be targeted to a younger audience. Not that there's anything in this story that is innapropriate for little kids, it's just it's written in a style more like a novel or something that has a lot of jokes and stuff about Furby 'biology'... :P
And I'm totally ok with it being in the fan-section, but don't rush to get it in there if it's any trouble to you! I didn't mean to make things harder.
In response to Lordofdragonss, I really, really wish I could have watched that movie. I guess now I have to find some way to cover for that in a later chapter...like saying the evolution was complete before they discovered people, or that they only saw the writing and not the people themselves...

No trouble of course, we're always looking for quality new stuff to go into the fan section :D
We do still have several copies of the Furby Island DVD. They're region 2 though, which is for UK and European DVD players, but I think they should work on most computers around the world, and it'll definitely work if you have a multi-regional DVD player.

Part 2 *will* be coming up, sorry for the wait

Sorry for double posting! Here's part 2, where the real story begins to unfold...
--
There was a sudden bright light, coming closer and closer to Trilly,
And her eyes slowly opened out of reflex.
She definately wasn't in the big city anymore. She was able to see row upon row of shelves and steely aisles in every direction that she looked, and the very thought of how vast the place was made her dizzy. Well, vast to a small creature like her, anyway. Everything was bright and clean and oddly shiny. She stepped forward to check out the place further, when -- pok! -- she hit something light and clear in front of her foot, preventing her from walking.
"Huh?"
She seemed to be suspended in some kind of clear cube...or at least the front side was clear. It was very small and closed her in on four sides, but she didn't feel claustrophobic or even uncomfortable. If anything, she felt sleepy. Her eyes slid closed again. "Way-loh A -Loh..."
She was beginning to get used to the random wakings that happened over the next few weeks.
Humans would pass by - she would recognize them as if from a strange, distant memory; she would wake, engage in light conversation, and quickly fall back into a strange, deep slumber immediately afterwards. It was an odd life. She secretly wondered what exactly her purpose was in this strange locale. Was she part of some kind of human museum display? She had heard of museums from the leaders of her colony on Furby Island at one of their reinforced meetings. They were supposedly a type of place where humans put things that they treasured in hopes of other generations seeing them for years to come. Was Trilly something that the humans treasured? She didn't know how that could happen so fast...
Even while she was asleep, her mind was whirring and whizzing through thoughts and questions. So many ideas about what was going on, where she was, how long it had been since she got there, and why she was there in the first place. They didn't overwhelm her, but they took over to the extent that she couldn't think of anything else. It was like tossing in a constant sea. But her ship would be landing soon enough.
She woke with a soft thump and a click, blinking heavily. "Whaa -- ?"
She was no longer restrained from walking. She experimentally inched one foot forward; she was on a hard, smooth surface. She inched forward again, and --
"Whaaa! Boo nah-bah! Boo nah-bah!"
-- she fell onto the ground. She had fallen a short distance, and her downy fur cushioned her fall. She shook her head and attempted to brush herself off when she felt a nudge beside her.
She turned to see something that she had never seen before: a Furby of the times before the evolution. She hardly recognized the creature at first - it was smaller than she was, with a harder, rounder beak and tiny, carrot-orange feet. She wondered how it could even move! It ears were small and pointed, and made a click-clack sound as they bounced in a quizzical manner. Its eyes were bright blue, and its tail was a large burst of whitish fluff, as was the unkempt pouf on his head. Its fur was white with splotches of brown and grey leopard spots sprinkled over it throughly. It wasn't its appearance that alerted Trilly of its true identity, after all. It was its greeting.
"Me U-Tye." He giggled, his voice being quite high pitched and silly sounding to Trilly. "But, you can call me by me nickname if you like. Some of my friends call me 'Splotch'. The ones who know English, anyway."
Trilly stumbled over her own words at the sound of this creature's vocabulary. He was speaking near-perfect English! Trillian herself knew barely any. She had taken her name, in fact, while trying to learn it by reading a series of famous human novels.
"Er...you Furby?" Trilly didn't know what else to say.
U-Tye giggled again. He was quite the ball of joy. "E-tah, me Furby, of course! What did you think me was, a Shelby?" He stopped his joking when he realized Trilly was being quite serious. "You Furby, too?"
"E-e-e...E-tah." Trilly replied nervously. "U-nye doo..." She looked for the right words. "...come from place?"
"Where do me come from? Me don't know, exactly...what's your name, anyways?" U-Tye asked.
"A - Loh, Trillian and Trilly. Toh-loo doo?"
"Three names all at once?"
"Boo. One name most times."
"Got it! Which do you like to be called the most?"
Trilly wasn't really sure how to answer this. "...doo? One u-nye...want." She tried to incorperate the English U-Tye used in his question.
"Any one me want? Ok! We'll start with A - Loh and go from there, 'kay?"
Trilly hesitated to answer.
"What's wrong? Are you scared?"
"Me boh-bay...about place. U-nye place?"
"You're worried about this place? Well, you won't be once me show you around." U-Tye seemed friendly, despite his strange appearance. And he also seemed very intelligent, and much more social than any Furby Trilly had ever met!
"Ok. Me safe?"
"You safe, A - Loh. You safe."
Trilly smiled.
--
Bonus points for whoever guesses what type of Furby U- Tye is! :P It was a hard descision.
Also...yes, Trilly *is* my 2005, the character is derived from her, but I like to think of it as an alternate universe (I'm trying hard to make me not be in the story, because that's kind of cheesy! ). And U - Tye/Splotch I just made up, but after writing him I wish he was up for adoption...he does have some traits of my cousin Dallas' old Furby A.J. :D
I hope you like chapter 2!

Yaaaay, she's been adopted by someone
I know what kind of Furby U-Tye is, but I'll let someone else say :P
He sounds adorable. Actually, Splotch is one name we've never used for an Adoption Centre Furby. It's a good one though. I'm sure there are thousands more English nicknames for Furbys out there, but sometimes it seems like we're running out of ideas  If a Furby arrives that matches Splotch's description, mind if I use his name please? ^_^
It will be tricky trying to not base the owner on yourself!

Hehe, if there is one like Splotch, you can use the name for sure! And I would most likely rush to adopt him too. :P
Yeah, I agree, it will be hard to not make the owner me...so I was thinking of having the owner really not be introduced in full. It being more from the Furbys perspectives, it might work...
Thanks for reading!
