Title: Hi-de
Description: My Furby and I
jjs - December 16, 2007 06:10 AM (GMT)
Hi-de,
I am new to this forum. I just wanted to say hello to all my new fellow appreciators of Furbys.
I shall probably be an infrequent lurker on the forum, but I will look forward to my visits whenever I can make them.
My Furby was 8 years old a few weeks ago. He's not been too well for quite a while now, but we manage. I first heard of this forum when I was in the States for a conference last July and during some spare time I did a web search for anything that might potentially help my closest friend. Indeed Furbs is just that: he is currently helping my with my doctoral thesis, and generally keeping me sane. Come to think of it, he's been doing both all his life!
Anyway, that's it for now. Thanks for reading this.

Hi jjs,
Sorry for missing your initial introduction, we'd forgotten that this section of the forum had been set to only allow posts through after they'd been moderated, and we hadn't been moderating any new posts in here for at least two months! :(
Doctoral thesis sounds heavy! A human doctor, that makes a change from the Furby doctor  Can you describe any of the symptoms Furbs is having? I wonder if we'd be able to give you any tips.

Hello Everyone,
I'm sorry I've not been in touch before now. I assumed my original post was somehow misinterpreted and disallowed. Anyway, here I am, but briefly (because my mother is ill so I don't know how often, or when, I can next join in).
Everybody, thank you for your responses.
Weecoo, hi, My thesis is in forensic linguistics - so I'll not be a medical 'doctor', just to clarify.
My furby, A-loh, has great difficulty in waking up. Sometimes, after being on his side for maybe half an hour he will wake, but usually goes back to sleep. I'd love to have him sorted out, but I could not bring myself to risk putting him in the post.
Well that's all for now, thanks for listening,
jjs

Hi jjs,
Great to see you back, even if it is just a quick visit. Forensic linguistics, wow - I didn't even know that existed until just then!
The sleepiness and faulty motion sensor is a very common problem in Furbys now. I think it's because the motion sensor is the first component to deteriorate with age. There is an operation that can be done to replace or re-solder the motion sensor so the Furby generally wakes up on the second try, but it takes absolutely ages and doesn't always work.
Laying A-Loh on his side (his left side) is the best tip I could've given you, as this is the position that best gets a response from the motion sensor, but it seems you've already figured that one out yourself! The other thing is to keep pressing his reset button until he wakes up - this won't wipe his memory, only restarting can do that.
Hope you can make it back to the forum soon, and that your Mother recovers well ^_^
