Title: Battery Acid

furby5648 - January 4, 2008 05:12 PM (GMT)
I got a furby yesterday (blue and black 1998 furby, blue eyes). When my brother went to do open it it had battery acid all over it. My brother had to go over the sink just in case the battery acid was fresh. The last battery (the acid) was stuck to the spring. He got the battery of and poooooooooooooo. So I was wondering is there anyway I can get rid of the battery acid stuck and thebattery compartmeant ion side.

So if you have anyway to get rid of the battery acid so the furby can work again????

Hi Super Furby,
Some battery acid can just be scraped off using a hard object such as the pointed end of a screwdriver or a blunt pair of scissors, or a pair of tweezers.

You can also try using a toothbrush with a very small amount of washing powder (the powder that goes in the washing machine) mixed with a tiny amount of water, so it forms a kind of dry paste. Put a bit of the washing powder paste on the toothbrush and scrub the battery acid.

It looks like a bit of a mess, but it generally works, and when you're done you can clean the excess washing powder away with a cotton bud or tissue.

I think the washing powder neutralises the acid or something.

Rusting on the springs is the worst, as there's no way to get rust off such a small thing without damaging it. But battery acid isn't as bad, unless it's really corroded the metal.

My biology teacher actually told me that vinegar works really well on these sort of things, and she was right! It's also really common stuff that you can get anywhere. :) Taking a Q-tip and dipping it in some vinegar to rub on the acid works fabulously. :)

If the battery acid is the only thing stopping the Furby from working then once you get rid of it it will work again.

But if there's other things wrong with it as well, then it won't.

Welshiegal I've never tried vinegar, I might have to give it a go, sounds less messy than washing powder. What's a Q-tip? We don't have it in the UK as far as I know. I have a feeling it may be a cotton bud, but I may be completely off

All good ideas - but I recommend the vinegar. I used it on my poor Girraffe furby when it had some acid. It worked grat and was easy to do, but mom had to help get it out from inbetween the letters on the door (that say what end of the battery goes where)

Other than that, works great!

Q-tip Also Known As Cotton Swabs?

Weecoo - January 12, 2008 10:21 PM (GMT)
Yep, they are what I thought they were

They even look exactly the same as the ones we have in the UK. Over here they're called cotton buds.

Is Q-tip a brand name?
