Now and Then Here and There is one of the best anime series of all, ALL time. If you haven't seen this anime please stop reading and buy it now!

Now and Then Here and There. Compared to it's predecessors, NTHT is a very short series, only spanning 13 episodes. So how can 13 short episodes make such an impact? Simple... create war, add in a mix of great characters, and finish it with a story that actually touched me, and you have my second favorite series of all time! I am rarely moved by sad dramas and those sort of things, but NTHT actually made me feel bad for the characters and for the world they live in. To me these 13 episodes were simply flawless. This series is also grossly underrated - so if you are one of the many who have not seen it, check it out for yourself!

The story of NTHT is great but not for children or tender souls. The meaning of this anime was to shock it's audience and I think they did a pretty good job. The theme is rather original and not often used. I must say that the maker must have had a lot of guts to make this anime. To portrait the atrocity of using children as soldiers in a war was risky, you don't know how the audience will react. On top of that is the fact that it looks so realistic that you'd believe it's truly happening. The harch situations, the torture, the rape, the cruelty,... everything is so humanly presented that it's scary. Scary in the meaning of "this could really happen, humans are capable of doing that or are already doing it". The characters are also very believable for the most part. Sometimes I wander if they didn't overdo it but it's questionable. Every character has it's own personality and typical way of handeling. The interactions between characters, the influence of circomstances on them, their personal devellopement, their dissicion making,... these are so humane that it's impossible not to be touched by this anime. This is one of the best stories I've ever encountered, it looks maybe a little naive at the beginning but I can assure you...it's not!
