Title: American Diversity
Description: Flow Chart

Lebaron - February 14, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
I have to make a flow chart on American Diversity on such things as groups, race, social class, etc and I really could use some help on where to start on this. It would be extremely helpful if I could see some examples of things that fit in here. Thanks!

Well, a flowchart is defined as showing a process, so with race, for example, I'd just start at the beginning and track the changes in American race relations. Start with slavery and the legal issues associated with that, move on to abolitionism, up through the Jim Crow era, through the civil rights movement and up to the racial issues of today. Then apply that process to the other categories and go from there.

Okay that helps! Another thing I had thought of is the makeup of the country's population, from nearly all Ango-Saxon to the melting pot of today. Thank you again. This web site is very useful

You could do the same with social classes. For example, the poor immigrants versus rich nativists, business and industry versus farming and agriculture. More specific was in the civil war (or Spanish American, I am not sure) rich men payed for replacements in the army if they were drafted, but by WWI, a law was put in place by Wilson to undo this buying out.

Yes, I remember those things. Thank you Patriot, I will be sure to consider those things when I make my chart :)
