Title: Border Security
Description: Any Solutions?

What do you think about our current border security?
What should we do first? Secure our borders or continue our "catch and release" mentality?
What is the ideal method?
As far as fencing goes: Are fences adequate? (Well, as not to use such a subjective term... will they prove effective? (once again, subjective, but w/e, you understand)) What about "virtual" fencing - - - if we could somehow make it "effective"?
Just a couple topic-starters....Let me know; anything goes!

I don't think fences would be adequate at all, but I am not going to pretend I'm an expert on the matter (I'm only a fence-building undergrad).

I also feel we do not make it easy enough to make it into our system. I'm not saying it would be easy at all to establish, but we should also be working towards changing the system to allow room for more immigrants to integrate into the system without taxing it too much.
Saying is much easier than doing, though.

Well, since everyone in America (except for the ignorants) know that illegals are what make our economy go round, how bout we just let them through? I mean, give them papers that say they can stay here for one harvest season, get their money and go home. Then they wouldn't necessarily be "illegal" and they wouldn't be American citizens either, but they would still help with the economy. Then, if they so choose, they can become American citizens.
I don't think it's that bad of a plan actually....

But over 1/2 of our illegal immigrants are not people who have crossed over our border illegally; rather, they are guest workers who have stayed past their predesignated length of time (not the best wording, but you get what I'm saying).

Really? Wow, maybe I should have done my paper over immigration....lol.
Still, I think it's a good plan, as long as they have paperwork. And they're not allowed to be in any states other than Texas and California. I mean, c'mon, America really does function off of burgers and wine ;]. lol.

hmmmmm.... was thinking a little, and - - -
Anyone for abolishing the federal income tax and replacing it with a federal sales tax so that the illegals have to pay for the services that they now steal?

That's an interesting point - I must admit that that never occurred to me. I still am not sure that I'm in favor of the federal sales tax, but that's definitely an aspect that would sweeten the deal quite a bit.

Obviously that has its benefits. However, it also has its drawbacks. The main argument for the replacement tax is that then rich folk would have to pay more than they do. Currently, they usually pay a lower percentage than people with less money, but the problem is that even then the percentage would be askew. Most money controlled by the rich class is rarely spent on commodities; usually it is invested or saved, hence the rich class remaining rich.

Yeah.... Well, all I know is that the proposed wall is only an obstacle. Unless we cover this obstacle with observation by law enforcement, we will only make gymnasts out of the illegal immigrants. General George Patton once said that, "Fortifications are monuments to mans' stupidity." In order for the proposed wall (or fence or whatever) to be effective, it must be part of a larger, active defense against illegal immigrants. This defense begins at the border and extends into the workplaces throughout this country. Just how we extend it is what we need to figure out.

I think we should plunge our economy into a recession. That way illegal immigrants won't want to come here! Oh wait. That already happened. And they're still coming.
