Alrite, i have a DBQ on the social reforms of the jacksonian era, and i automatically can see the relationships the documents have to the prompt.

but i'm haveing trouble relating the reforms to democracy.

For example, how can u relate the temperance movement to democracy?

Well, in an authoritarian dictatorship, you aren't free to criticize the government or agitate for change. The Jacksonian era is a prime target for an essay like that: after all, Jackson was the one who wanted to bring democracy to the common man. He even opened up the White House itself to anyone who wanted to stop by during his inauguration celebration.

So basically, any popular movement that involves asking for some kind of change in the government (and especially one that is put into effect, such as temperance and the Prohibition) is by far most likely to succeed in a democracy.

On the other hand, in the case of temperance, a dictatorship might be happy to oblige, citing "health of the people" or something.

You're not obliged to use ALL the documents; if a few don't fit, you can usually get away with not mentioning them at all.
