Booker T. washington and W.E. Du Bois offered different strategies for dealing with the problem of poverty and discrimination faced by black anericans at the end of the nineteenth and begining of the twentieth centuries.
I have to use the doc to assess the appropietness of each of the strategies in the historical context in which they were develope.
i need any info on discrinination and poverty strategies used in the years 1877-1915.
i been reading the book but i dont think i have enough information to start.
I am curious if you recieved the same DBQ as my class. If you did, the Docs write the essay themselves. For example, is their a black lynching chart showing it soared in this time period? Jim crows laws took over in 1877 after Union left the South like the Grandfather clauses (if your Grandfather could not vote , you coudn't).
Also, just know you shoud not fill your essay with drawn out outside info. The Docs are there to support 75% of the essay. Just throw in some outside sources to show you know the time period and can defend your arguement.
For example the JIm Crow Laws are the biggest example of the discrimination in that time period as well as the rise of the KKK. Or just use simple things to throw into your sentences. Example: "W.E.B. Dubois, founder of the NAACP,..." all you do is throw some info here and there and you should be good.
Remember, there was also a lot of discrimination in the North at that time. In 1914 the black migration to the North sparked a lot of violence, but that might be too much related to WWI for you to use. Good Luck.
