Title: Your favourite 80s toys/toylines
Cryotek - August 28, 2007 07:40 PM (GMT)
As there's so many 80's toylines I wanted to mention I thought I'd do a quick list of some favourites.
Visionaries - me and my brother each had a Visionary, the animal hologram effect on the figure's chests and power staff weapons was mesmerising as a five year old and they could move really good
Ghostbusters - There was a fantastic range of Ghostbusters themed toys, some really cool monster ones like a bin-man who lifted a dustbin over his head and suddenly he was part house-fly, with wings coming out his sides, as well as more traditional monsters like werewolves and vampires. You could also buy Ghostbuster slime in tubs! Woolworths was the best place for me to get Ghostbusters stuff.
Rocklords - Everyone knows Transformers, but I never hear anything about the Rocklords, rock monsters that turned into erm, rocks! there was a bad-guy called Magma and oneof the goodies was called Nugget. There was a partcular rocklord who actually liked to eat rocks, which really puzzled me as a kid but there you go. The figures were pretty small, no match for Transformers but cool in their own way.
Mumm-Ra's Lair - This was such a fun playset, from the revolving mouth/door where you could turn Mumm-Ra into the giant green muscular Mumm-Ra to the ugly, moving beast statues either side ( a bull and a crocadile) the lair itself was a kind of skull and I think the big white eyes were glow in the dark.
Snowman (from Thundercats) maybe my favourite Thundercat figure because he was a real chunky thing! virtually unbreakable
Beetlejuice figure - these were in the Argos catalogue toy section for a couple of years probably because the cartoon that came after the film kept the interest going. I only remember one of the figures, beetlejuice in a yellow costume who at a click would literally explode into pieces!
Bravestar - Was this show 80s or 90s? I only remember the bad guy was called Tex-Mex and that the action figures were as good as the Thundercats ones.
Most of the others I can think of are from the 90s but I did quite well there considering I wasnt born til' half-way through the 80s.
It'd be cool to see what other favourites people can come up with.

| Bravestar - Was this show 80s or 90s? |
Bravestarr was an 80s show FYI.I remember my cousin Vinnie owned a Bravestarr figure that would shoot out sparks. Here a list of my favorite 80s toys.
1.My Little Pony-Well duh, everyone knows that I'm a Pony fan cuz of my username.I had three boxfuls of Ponies and the different Pony-type toys from dogs, cats, birds, dinosaurs, lambs etc.I even owned a few knock off Ponies too :P .
I had everything My Little Pony myself too.I had the lunchbox, puzzles, books, movies, carry case and even a Pony themed party for my 5th birthday.
2.Hello Kitty and Sanrio characters-Another long time favorite since my childhood years.I have everything Hello Kitty and Sanrio.During the dark ages of Anime and Sanrio in America (late 80s up until the late 90s) Sanrio stuff was pretty hard to find during my younger years. It was around the time when Anime wasn't mainstreamed like Asian and Europe. You couldn't find Hello Kitty in a famous department store or anywhere like now.The best place for Sanrio at the time (and still is) was Teaching Toys of Westford,MA,Philippines and the Children's Musuem of Boston,MA.I'm so glad that I live in this era now since Anime and Sanrio is wicked popular now.During those dark years, everyone looked at me with three heads when I liked Hello Kitty and Anime. In some ways I wish I was a growing up in Japan or Asia where Anime and Sanrio was mainstreamed. :winky:
3.Cat's Eye-A game I would always play alot. It's a game where you use a gumball machine type despenser to push out marbles for the matching color of cat.Say your cat is green, look for the green marbles and whoever gets the black marble for the eye wins.
4.Hungry Hungry Hippos-That game was wicked awesome. One thing that pissed me off about that game when I was younger was my younger brother Derryck cheated by grabbing all the marbles with his hands to make the hippo eat a crapload of marbles.
5.Mr.Potato Head-How can I forget about him,had the whole family and still have them in the attic.
6.Fisher Price Little People-Not the new ones that look like humans, the small peg ones.I would play with those all the time.Had all the houses and playsets for these.I even had a Little People computer game where you control the firetruck to save people.
7.Big Bird pull string doll-I would carry that thing everywhere during my toddler years in Kingston,NY.I still remember what it said,"do you want some bird seeds".
8.Glo-Worms-Elliott (older brother) and I slepted with these when we were babies.I even remember the Glo-Snail I got for a graduation gift from Pre-School and still own the Glo-Worm type toy Blushable bunny.
9.Winnie the Pooh plushie-That was my gift from the day I was born on 1/1/85.Slept with that thing when I was a baby until I moved to Tyngsboro.
10.Sweet Secrets-Transformers for girls as some may call it.I owned a few of these, but I lost one of them at a friends house.
11.Smooshies-OMG,I can't tell you how much I loved Smooshies.I owned a crapload of those.I had the Smooshies house along with the pen and barette set when I was in Kindergarden.
12.Cherry Merry Muffin-Anyone remember this short lived Strawberry Shortcake type doll?.I had a Cherry Merry Muffin doll along with the scented figures. One time while I was cleaning out my house before moving,I found my Cherry Merry Muffin with the crimped hair but it lost it's smell from being in the Barbie box of my sister all these years.
13.Cupcake dolls-Another Strawberry Shortcake type doll I remember.I owned a few of these when I was younger. You flipped the cupcake and it would change into a girl.I decided with my paycheck that I would buy the new Cupcake dolls that just came back which smelled like Cotton Candy (my favorite scent). When Emily (younger sister) saw it,she was amazed that she saw a Cupcake doll and remembers it from our younger years.
14.Suprise pets-They were these animal dolls that had babies inside of the mother. You had to take them out of the stomach to see how much babies it got. They were Puppy Surprise,Kitty Surprise,Bear Surprise,Pony Surprise, and Bunny Surprise.I owned the whole set of these dolls.
15.Littlest Pet Shop-Owned a bunch of these toys.I even had the Vet it came with too.
16.Sailor Moon-I was a huge Sailor Moon fan during the 90s.I owned the whole set of the small dolls (still have em) that my Grandmother got for Christmas.I still do like Sailor Moon to this day on since I have a Chibi Moon mini folder (from a stationary set)I bought at Claire's back in the 90s to use for my paper work at my PCA job.
17.Magic Nursery babies and pets-They were the dolls that came with a surprise package to dip in water to see if it was a boy or a girl. The pets were pastel colored animals and pulled the ears out to see what animal it was.
18.Melvin the bird-This obscure late 80s game was where you had this dancing bird that you had to feed worms in it's long neck.Wicked fun game I got for Christmas one year and broke on me.
19.Ice Tickle Bunny-An obscure early 90s toy where you had this white bunny with a pink stomach to rub with it's ice locket to change it to white.I remember this one kid in my school stole the locket from me and wondered where it went.
20.Roll figure-Roll from the Megaman/Rockman series was my favorite character that I owned a mini figure of her from the 90s cartoon series.
21.Gizmo and the Gremlins-Gizmo was so cute and still is.^____^
22.Ewoks-I loved to watch the cartoon when it was on reruns back when the Sci-Fi channel used to play cartoons and Anime.
23.Tamagotchis-I owned like ten of these toys.I kept track all of my Tamagotchi's everywhere I went.
24.Beanie Babies-Okay,I have to admit that me and my sister went through the Beanie Baby faze. When they were $5 a piece,I would collect them and then the prices went up which made me stop collecting them.I had a boxful of Beanie Babies at one point.
25.Rainbow Brite-I used to own a Rainbow Brite bank and a white Sprite plushie with the roller skates.I owned a Rainbow Brite bank as my brother Elliott had the Bozo the Clown bank.Mom was teaching us to save our coins from a young age.
26.Transformers-These were more of my brothers favorite toys, but I went through a quick faze during the late 90s collecting them. But I was more of a Kawaii Sanrio fan than a Transformers fan to begin with. :galvatron:
27.Teddy Ruxpin-How can you forget about him.I had him along with Grubby. My Dad waited for a long time at Caldor's (defuncted departement store) to get his hands on Ruxpin.
28.Pamela the talking doll-It was like Teddy Ruxpin, but it was a doll.I owned it.
29.Super Mario Brothers-I was such a huge Mario fan during my Kindergarden years.Had a Mario doll that I would take everywhere with me and watched the show every day after school.
30.NES-Loved it and still do.
31.Sega Gennises-See above for NES.
32.Colecovision-While living in Kingston,NY,my Dad with cousin Tina would always play Donkey Kong on the Colecovision.
33.Any disk game from Software Labs-This defunct disk magazine store had loads of games I would always order. Those games I got from were addicting.
34.Princess of the Flowers-These early 90s dolls were so cool back in the day.Emily had the whole set of these dolls. They were a flower which you would open with a key and the princess with her pet come out.In my Kawaider story,Dr.Komyoji's mechanical flower for Eri to turn into an android is based off of the Princess of the Flowers doll.
35.Ghostbusters-My brothers were into those.Had the Ecto car and the buildings.
36.Ninja Tutles-Can't forget about them.My siblings were crazy over them and had all the toys to them. :donatello: :leo: :micheal: :raph:
Some of the toys I liked were from the 90s since I grew up in the 80s and 90s.Boy do I have such a memory of the toys I loved to play with.

well i have to agree with Cryotek
the holographic images of visionaries chest plate and power staff looked cool and brought you one step closer to the cartoon!
and the glowing eyes of the thunder cats
Thundercats-Ho - September 30, 2007 01:33 AM (GMT)
Oh definatly the Visionaries toys i wish i still had them despite being my favourite cartoon i sadly never owned any Thundercats toys had tons of M.A.S.K toys but my all time favourite 80's toy was my Ewok Village (which looked suprisingly like the later Robin Hood prince of thieves playset)

I think it's because both brands are from the same manufacturer so they decided to use the Ewok Village mold for the Robin Hood playset.

I know it just seems a little cheap to me Kenner were trying to make me believe the trees in sherwood forest were exactly the same type of trees as on Endor.
