| Jericho is the story of how a small community (Jericho, Colorado USA) reacts after a nuclear mushroom cloud is scene in the horizon (over Denver, Colorado) and all communication with the outside world is shut off. It stars Skeet Ulrich (Jake Johnson). I really, really, really wanted to love this show...but...I didn't. It's a terrific premise, with some really good actors, but the script itself was high cheese. It was like watching a bad WB show on CBS. I'm shocked CBS even picked this up, it's nothing like they're usually quality stuff. Anyway - the prodigical son Jake returns to Jericho and immediately gets into an arguement with his Dad, the mayor. On his way back out of town he sees (as do other characters) a nuclear mushroom cloud in the general direction of Denver. For some reason seeing this cloud causes all sorts of traffic accidents even though there's about 3 cars on the road. He gets into an accident, a school bus goes off the road and a prisonerer bus (I know, convinent) goes crashes. there's no windstorm, or shock wave or even noise....but these fools all crash. In a post 9/11, 3/11, the London subway bombings, Katrina and cable news channels that show us how people react in the wake of grand scale disasters...the folks in act like one dimensional, cartoon caricatures. The world as we know it might be over but they have time to get on their soapboxes and moralize. One speech by the mayor was especially corny and sooooo unrealistic it was hard to watch. I give Jericho a D. No believablity factor at all. But you guys watch it and let me know what you think. |
