JJ Abrams has a type of woman that he's attracted to. She's slender, dark-haired with light eyes and delicate features. I'm convinced of this since almost all of his leading ladies fit the bill...Keri Russell, Jen Garner, Evi Lilly and the actress on his new show who play Whitney - she's basically Evangeline Lilly in 10 years. Of course, she' drop dead gorgeous. Anyway... The premise of this show is that everyone in NYC is conncected to each other by Six Degrees (like the Kevin Bacon game). Like Lost the characters cross each other in their daily routines, some become friends, others just apear briefly in the background. The story follows a core group of people. Carlos is a young Public Defender who defends Mae (she was arrested for public nudity). He falls for her, but after he gets her out of jail, she disappears. As he tries to find her he runs into Damien. Damien drives a private Town car. He's a gambling addict with a shady Big brother that offers him a bunch of money to help him with a "job". Damien has a bunch of gambling debt so he agrees, things go wrong and now he has to help his brother with another job. Find a missing woman. (Mae/Clarie) Mae - who later changes her name to Claire - Is on the run from someone (we don't see who) takes a job as a Nanny for a woman named Laura. Laura - recently lossed her husband overseas. he was a reporter for a cable news channel. She's coping with her loss and being a single parent, she meets Whitney while getting a manicure. Whitney - is an Ad executive who is dating a guy name Ron. She's ready to take the relationship to the next level and asks him to marry her. She hires Gary as a photographer Gary - is a recovering drug addict who has a young son that he never sees but loves. He's a brilliant photographer but can't seem to find his inspiration anymore. I'm on the fence with show. On one hand, it is written very well and they cast some really good actors. But there's a definate lack of 'sexiness". This show comes on after Grey's Anatomy, if they want to retain the Grey's audience they have to sex this up a bit. It was OK and I'm sure the ratings will be great. But it just seemed a bit Vanilla for me. I only liked it, didn't love it. Everyone should still tune in and judge for themselves. I give it a B. |
