This afternoon I finally had some freetime to myself so thought I'd have a go at speed building/painting a pre-heresy mini from scratch.
Not waiting for the GS to fully set I furiously set about bashing this guy out in three hours. He's not quite finished but thought I'd post some pictures of what in essence is a 3d sketch.
I decided that rather than go for my usual gothic or heightened marines for this guy I'd try something different for fun.
I used the terminator legs from the Dark Angels sprue for the legs and added some GS to shape the greaves.
I then got a big ol' blob of GS and shaped the torso. Whilst this was semi-drying I started on the arms. Using the terminator pads from the same sprue along with the terminator arms I extended the length of the pads and added a rim to make it look more like MkIV armour.
About an hour after I'd started the torso I added the cables whilst the arms dryed a bit. I then cut up the stormbolter and lengthen it using the stormbolter from the commander sprue.
I chopped up a chaos back pack and added this to the torso. Two hours after starting the construction I sprayed him black and began painting.
An hour later this is the result so far.

WIP Painting Scale shot

Side shot of extended true scale bolter

It's not a master piece by any means, the GS work is extremely rough and so is the paint job so far, but he's proving to be a fun piece to work on.
It's my interpretation of how I personally see Space Marines.
I'll post the finished shots later and then it's back to work on the Night Lords.
