Well hello there! I am sure a few people will recognise my name from various sites! But i am taking part in the Tale of the legions over on warseer and this seems like a great site to get some advice on!
I am making the alpha legion and i am struggling for some guidance. I know there is hardly nay fluff which leaves alot open to interpretation but i would like some guilines first!
I have decided on making them very secretive looking so hoods and cloaks and the like but other than that i am a tad lost! hat direction should i take them?
Any and all comments will be greatly helpful!
Cheers,
AR

First off welcome to the board! :)
Hmm, the Alpha Legion, an excellent choice for a Pre-Heresy Legion.
The thing about the Alpha Legion from what I can tell is that being the twentieth they were the youngest Legion and felt that they had to prove something to their brother Astartes.
Their combat doctrine was to attack in as many different ways as possible often taking on forces many time their size.
I personally would use as many different types of unit as possible to best represent this. Power armoured recon teams as seen in the Horus Heresy artwork books would be an excellent choice.
I'm currently having a go at making a recon marine myself and have used the spare Devastator packs from the sprue along with a torso from an assault marine as a base for the model.
Servo skulls or small drones like those used by Darth Maul in the star wars film would be another idea, although I'd remove the iron halo from two of them to make them less gothic.
I think that you have to look at the composition of the army you're making an really think about creating a balanced force with a wide variaty of different unit types.

I intend to use the DA sprue! I made a heavy bolter marine alreay that looks pretty cool!
ANd i really like the sound of using different teams and varied units! Being the youngest would they have the most up to date armour and weapons then?

Probably as i believe alpharius was only found, at a guess 20 years max before the heresy

Cool, i will say away from Mk7 but possibly a few Mk6 heads, even then i think thats stretching it but hey!

i don't know i thought that mk6 went into production pre-heresy

Mk. 6 armour went into full scale production fairly late on in the Heresy, with Mk. 7 being produced around the time of the fall of Mars, with production then being transferred to Terra. With that said, if you're going for a Pre-Heresy force, I'd say stick to Mk. 3 and Mk. 4 armours.

Pesonally I'd stick the Mk.5 "Heresy armour" for two resons.
First: Being the youngest legion, they would most likely have all the latest equipment (of the era)
Second: Converting Mk.7 into Mk.5 is really easy.

I'd maybe stay away from Terminators
as said he was the last found so probally didnt have a full first company of them.
Then again Horus took him under his wing a while before he told the Emporer so I guess You could justify it.
