Title: Imperial Fists

Stryker - March 21, 2007 11:32 AM (GMT)
Imperial Fists have been a passion of mine for three years now, and only recently have I been able to get to grips with painting them, as yellow can be a bit of a pain to get right.

That said, I am an extremely slow painter, and I have a tendency to take on too much work- I keep buying the cool new stuff when I haven't finished what's on the painting table... but I digress.

As I have said in my introduction, my army will be set on Terra during the opening stages of the Siege. And it will be based around the ornamental gardens of the Imperial Palace itself. I just loved the image of of war in a place of beauty... Different, is it not? My army is from the Third company. You may notice that some of the Marines wear the aquila on their chest-plates, but as this is during the Heresy, the Emperor had allowed the loyalists to wear them in the same manner as the Emperor's Children.

Anyhow, I will be using certain elements of my 40k army, hence the aquilas to bolster the strength of my 30k army. Mainly a tactical squad with mixed armour types, a chaplain, scout squad and two Dreadnoughts.

You may have seen some of these models before, as I had posted them on the B&C under my alias, Mertio23.

I am currently working on an Apothecary from my command squad. He should be finished in a matter of days. (I'm in the process of moving house as well.)

Anyhow, now I've got that out of my system, here are some of my minis:

I have close up pics of some the minis, if you require them. If I haven't got a close up, I should be able to do them shortly thereafter. Oh, by the way, comments are welcome, as is constructive criticism. :)

Excellent our first Heresy era army posted! :)

They are looking amazing so far, I especially love the dreadnoughts.
You've done a really nice job on the yellows and the idea of having a Chaplain in the army is very cool.
I can see him stood on the frontlines, shouting to his fellow Astartes to hold the line no-matter the cost. Very nice.
The Imperial palace theme is a good idea and adds tons of character to the army, also re-enforcing the theme of Heresy era.
Have you thought about making busts/broken statues from old minis to add some of the bases?
Brilliant stuff, can't wait to see the army progress. :)

Stryker - March 21, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
Thank you very much for your comment! Yes, I'll be putting in some busted statues, like cherubs and stuff. I've even thought of adding trampled flower beds to some of the later minis... We'll just have to wait and see on that one. :D

Constantin Valdor - March 21, 2007 07:57 PM (GMT)
nice models just a few minor moans

the crux terminatus was post heresy and the chest aquila was only widely used in the emperor's children legion

Angron - March 22, 2007 09:23 PM (GMT)
I have to agree the terminator symbol wasn't around during the heresy but the chest eagle thing makes sense as they were defending the imperial palace.
I might be a traitor WE player but that chaplin is awesome!

Stryker - March 23, 2007 08:17 AM (GMT)
I realise the crux is a post heresy symbol, but until I have their new shoulder pads ready, they will have to do, I'm afraid. Besides, there is a second squad planned which will be totally heresy era. :)

Angron - March 24, 2007 12:04 PM (GMT)
Sounds good to me. Can't wait to see more pictures of them.
Are you going to include Sigismund?

Stryker - March 24, 2007 08:03 PM (GMT)
Sigismund is still a possibility, but even though I have a vague picture of him in my mind I'm not sure if it's something I want to take on at this stage. I promise I'll think about it! ;)

eisenhorn - March 27, 2007 12:23 PM (GMT)
In Horus Rising it said he had black armor.
so maybe black armor with yellow trim
he was the first company capt and so was abaddon for the luna and he wore black too.
Maybe it was a pre-heresy thing like vets have white trim in the codex maybe in the Heresy they wore black.
Anyway I'd say use assault running legs with a bald head charging with a power sword(emperors champion sword perhaps) and a pointy finger.
Use a 1/32x1/16 magnet in his head and gorget and make a removeable head 1 helmeted and one bald.

HiredSword - April 1, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
great models there, nicely painted and there's a strong heresy era theme as well. I really like the Emperor's Palace idea as well.

The only thing that lets the models down is maybe the bases are a bit too bland, and for a Palace I would expect the bases to be concrete (the broken statues is a nice idea as well). Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, but it's meant to be constructive criticsm, honest!

Kradle - April 2, 2007 12:49 AM (GMT)
Those are absolutely lovely! I am quite a fan of your yellow and i really like your chaplain. though they are all very good.

Keep it up, would love to see more.

Peace

Thanks for the comments guys, anything that helps me improve my standards is always good. ;)

Sorry for the lack of updates, I just moved house. That said, I'm currently settling into my new pad, so once I've got that all sorted out, I'll start work with a vengeance.

Anyhow, once the Command Squad is done, I've got some of the new Devastators to do. Oh well, too many plans, not enough time...

@HiredSword: I realise what you are saying, and with the models I have lined up, there will be more in the way of ruins and wreckage added to bases. I'm not going to overdo it though, seeing as they're in the Palace's ornamental gardens.

@Eisenhorn: Thanks for the ideas, I may use them in the future!

@Kradle: There's more in the pipeline, mate, including something VERY special... Trust me!

OrlyggJafnakol - May 3, 2007 09:03 PM (GMT)
Just like to add my congratulations to your efforts. Imperial fists have long been a favourite of mine and post seige of terra is an excellent time to model them from.

Any plans for Rogal Dorn?

Stryker - May 4, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
Rogal Dorn will be done eventually, but as of yet, I have far too much to do on the "regular" marines. That said, I'd like to have him resemble this artwork, minus the big ol' moustache:

Artwork credit goes to Aerion The Faithful. ;)

Goforit - May 29, 2007 10:27 PM (GMT)
love the IF nice work on the yellow cant wait to see how the army develops

Horus Aximand - July 25, 2007 04:07 PM (GMT)
Very nice marines there, but Id add a few studds onto the helmets. The MK7 (those helmets) wasn't designed until two hundred years after the Siege. Though the MK7's easily make good MK5's witha little work....

@ Eisenhorne Actually, Sigismund had yellow plate with black and white heraldry. May be a halfed shoulderpad with the Iron Cross?

QUOTE (Stryker @ Mar 24 2007, 08:03 PM)
Sigismund is still a possibility, but even though I have a vague picture of him in my mind I'm not sure if it's something I want to take on at this stage. I promise I'll think about it! ;)

How I'd do sigismund is by doing a slight conversion of either the Emperor's Champion or Marshal Hellbrecht models, giving a few subtle changes and giving em an Imperial Fist (of course, remembering to put Sigismund's personal heraldry there).
The Emp's Champ would work quite well because he's largely got pre-heresy armour, and given that Sigismund would become the first Emperor's Champion, it ties visually to future Emperor's Champions.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, the limited edition emperors champion (the one with the all-too phallic sword) was supposed to represent Sigismund post-heresy (in fact, the rules that came with him were for "Sigismund - the Emperor's Champion")

Torg Ayreon - September 6, 2007 08:46 AM (GMT)
Actually There was one Mk7 helmet (though it may have been a
prototype)and that was Lionel Johnsons. :D
