Title: Super Heavy Tanks

Stormshadow - March 22, 2007 09:15 PM (GMT)
I've noticed that in the Heresy Artwork books that there are Super Heavy tanks like the Fellblade.
Does this mean that they used them in the Legions before the Guard had them?

Seriously???
I'd love to be able to use a baneblade for my world eaters. :ph43r:

Hmm...legions with super heavies. That's truly an intersting thought, but the HH novels haven't mentioned the Luna Wolves deploying with them.

I like the thought tho. I'd love my Space Wolves to have one, but I think the LandRaider will be as heavy as it gets.

As far as I know, the Legions did use them before the Heresy, and during it. The remaining tanks were then re-distributed to the Imperial Guard following the fall of Horus, in the same way that Land Raiders and Land Speeders were taken from the Imperial Guard and re-distributed among the loyal Space Marines on decree of the Emperor himself.

That said, I believe they were crewed by humans in service of the legions, so rules wise, you'd have to use Baneblades as an allied unit. If you've got Imperial Armour books then you'll be fine. :)

If not, the long-awaited Apocalypse supplement for 40k should help.

I agree with Stryker on this one. I was toying around with getting a Mars pattern Baneblade for my Night Lords actually.
Maybe you could have them crewed by Legion Serfs lead by an Astarte?

Stormshadow - March 24, 2007 07:16 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, interesting. I might have to invest in one now for my legion.

Great idea... Lead by Techmarine perhaps? I think it seems apt. B)

if they come out with the plastic one I'll do it.

Stryker - March 25, 2007 07:44 AM (GMT)
It's not a matter of if, it's when. I'ts just been delayed due to moulding issues. I believe we may see the plastic Baneblade before October.

Doghouse - March 25, 2007 09:18 AM (GMT)
Wow, I heard that they were making the thing just never realised that it would be so soon!
I'll have to include one in my Night Lords company.
I think I'll have to add them to the Legion Astartes suggestions thread if that's the case.

The plastic Baneblade is supposed to be released to coincide with the Codex Apocalypse supplement, as the flagship model of the entire 40k range, and there are a few surprises, apparently. People keep saying that they've seen pimped-out, (pardon the expression,) Baneblades with spires and crennelations, like a mobile cathedral, yet the option exists to make Mars or Lucius pattern tanks. Certain people have also said that the kit will include parts to make the other Baneblade variants, though I'd take all of this with a hefty dose of salt...

By the way, it's gone back to November now :(

I'd rather they push it back and get it right then push out substand
pieces.

It's kind of like Halo2 and Mechwarrior 2 for x-box
they pushed halo2 out for almost a year but when it came out it has never met its match for playing multiplayer IMO but Mechwarroir 2 got rushed out and even though the game is fun getting 12 people for multiplayer is damn near impossible.

I tend to agree about the pushing back release thing. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth got pushed back...god, a year? Maybe more. When the trailers came out, it looked ok. When final product shipped, it was epic.

I would much, much rather see a good quality product a month or so later, than a low quality product now.

Dunno if I would use one with my Thousand Sons pre heresy, at this point I was thinking of keeping them around combat patrol level for the sake of my wallet (16-minimum wage job), but I'm starting to think they may wind up escalating beyond that.
