Title: Pre-Heresy Challenge
Description: Rites of Passage

Doghouse - April 8, 2007 07:29 PM (GMT)
The Rites of Passage.

The objective of the challenge is to put together a Pre-Heresy Legion of your choice. If you meet the targets set out below then you will be awarded with a new rank.
Just as hopeful Neophytes must under go the challanges of initiation here is your chance to become recognised as an Astarte of your Legion.

Astarte

In order to get the title of Astarte you must post pictures of atleast a commander and two troops choices that you have made and painted yourself to the sum of 500-600pts.
In order to be classed as Pre-Heresy you may only include MkI to MkIV armoured suits in your army.
You may scratchbuild or convert parts to represent custom variants of the MkIV armour as it was notoriously difficult to maintain so it's design may vary from Legion to Legion as replacement parts are improvised.
You may not include MkVI or MkVII helmets and the only Legion that can use the Aquila torso (the eagle) is the Emperor's Children.

Sergeant

As the next step the same rules apply as above but in order to gain the rank of Sergeant you must paint and show pictures of 750-800pts worth and include one other selection from either Elites, Troops, Fast Attack or Heavy Support.

First Sergeant

As the next step the same rules apply as above but you must paint and show pictures of 1000pts worth and include one other selection from either Elites, Troops, Fast Attack or Heavy Support.

Captain

As the next step the same rules apply as above but you must paint and show pictures of 1500pts worth and include one other selection from either Elites, Troops, Fast Attack or Heavy Support.

So for example if a member paints a Captain and two tactical squads at a total of 550pts then they are awarded the title of Astarte.

They decide to expand their army adding a Devastator Squad which brings them up to 800pts making them a Sergeant and so on.

Important Note!

Please remember not to include Razorbacks, Landraider Crusaders and Predator Annihilators.
The models you use for your force can be part of a Pre-Heresy force you have already started but may not include models that you have created for 40k era Chapters.
The idea behind this is to give members an incentive to achieve something whilst creating their armies.
Infantry mounted plasma cannon are acceptable as prototypes but Terminators may not have the Crux Terminatus on the shoulder/knee pads.

Any questions feel free to PM me.

Woo! Looks good. I'll be submitting a pre-heresy Thousand Sons force. Waiting on bits to come in the post, but I'll be getting started as soon as I can.

Commander and two troops choices... That'll be rough on the wallet, but whatever. Trying to make a combat patrol force anyway, so I'd need to get there sooner or later.

working on my Luna Wolves ATM.
got the commander done and half a fast attack squad.
actually I think I have a troop and command squad too but those were painted months ago before I got painting white down.
So I'm deciding whether to strip them or not

Just one question.

Is there going to be something like this for none power armoured forces? i.e Orks, Eldar..?

I will not be participating in this Astarte one because the only power armour i own is 40k stuff and I dont have a desire at the moment to start a pre-heresy legion. I would still like to see the pre-heresy marks of armour though if someone has pics.

Peace

Great stuff!

Thocan: The two troops choices and HQ is to encourage members, myself included, to put together a playable army.
Speaking from experience I'll build a couple of tactical marines, then a captain then start a vehicle and never get an actually pre-heresy force together. All going well it'll help members focus on a proper army and reward them at the end with the custom title. :)

Kradle: Yeah I'm going to put up a Pre-Heresy Xenos challenge as well. :)

Yeah, I figured that was why you set the requirement at something playable. I'm working on a paint scheme right now for this, will post a test mini tonight.

Good idea mate, although are we going to have to have a mid Heresy forum to cover marks V-VII???

;)

Surely you'll accept a few MKV's in there at least? If you count the 'gothic' armour then I would hope so dude.

Vyper.
