Description: around the time of the siege of terra
Typhon - April 26, 2007 01:17 PM (GMT)
hey guys, 1st post on this forum :)
i am doing a DG force compiled of squads from different periods in time from the last 10000 years and these will be my boys from the year M.30 (ish) i know the armour isnt the correct mark but im going for the paint scheme more than anything
i wont waste any more time and just get straight into it
my 1st of 14 death guard and a rhino (all C&C welcome)
Enjoy!

Commander Bly - April 26, 2007 06:59 PM (GMT)
looks good. How did u do the wheathering?
Kradle - April 27, 2007 05:22 AM (GMT)
beautiful! I love that rhino, Looks like they are at the stage of just turning to nurgle (although i could be wrong).
And as Bly said, how did you do the weathering?
Peace
Typhon - April 27, 2007 12:34 PM (GMT)
thanks for the comments guys!
i achieved the weathered look by simply using really watered down chessnut ink and painting it on in stripes and putting a dab on each of the rivets and what not. or if you mean the battle damage that was done by holding a lighter to the area and jamming a paint brush into it  (not that i condone melting or jamming paint brushes into anything  )
i should have a pick off some more squad members up pretty soon B)
Commander Bly - April 27, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
Ah cool ive never heard the lighter idea, thats new :)
Typhon - April 30, 2007 04:41 PM (GMT)
some more progress!
the last 3 of the tactical squad, in the first stage of re-painting (i have some assualt marines to follow, hence the runnuing ultramarine in the background :) )

just need to detail and weather these guys!
Commander Bly - April 30, 2007 07:20 PM (GMT)

Typhon - April 30, 2007 10:02 PM (GMT)
thanks for the comment!
yeah, i wish i had the time (and money) to go all out on these bad boys, but im afraid my pre heresy stuff will be the "cheap substitute" types <_<
so as long as i get the colour scheme, insignia and mood of the force correct ill be happy :D
(thanks for putting that link there for me but i wish you hadnt as when i see shiny new models i feel compeled to by them!)
Commander Bly - May 1, 2007 12:04 AM (GMT)
heh sry for tempting you
stil models look good :D
Commander Bly - May 5, 2007 12:09 PM (GMT)
Also how did you do your bases they look kinda.. swampy ;)
Typhon - May 6, 2007 05:05 PM (GMT)
simply: sand, snakebite leather, dry brush bleached bone over that and some static grass
i dont like these bases personaly, i did them ages ago and now do them differently....

i think these bases will work better in a city fight or an "open plains" roll
so im gonna re paint the bases as well
Warwolt - May 6, 2007 11:18 PM (GMT)
I suppose you can add atleast some rivets to the shoulderpads to make them look a bit pre heresy ;)
Cotidie - May 6, 2007 11:36 PM (GMT)
I love these models...even though they are the current plastics, they capture the feel of Pre-Heresy SM sooo well.
I'd be really pleased if I got as good a result with my own WE's...
Doghouse - May 7, 2007 01:38 AM (GMT)
Looking good so far Typhon. Great streaking effect, it makes them look like they're campaigning on a toxic alien world.
Very nice. :)
Typhon - May 7, 2007 06:35 PM (GMT)
wow!!
thanks for the comments guys :D
i will have some more pics up tonight!!
Typhon - May 8, 2007 09:37 PM (GMT)
well a day later than i said but meh here is some progress....
any way here is my first tactical squad (TBH they are 99.99% done)

what do you think?
Commander Bly - May 8, 2007 10:24 PM (GMT)
Wow those look really good! Still I cant say it enough love the weathering :D.
Dawn of the Dogs - May 9, 2007 02:38 PM (GMT)
thats looking real nice! but what i love most is the DG icon on the rhino. very awesome.
OrlyggJafnakol - May 9, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
Liking what I am seeing. I have often wondered about the Death Guard of this period. The way I see the majority of the SM would have still resembled normal troops, as indeed yours do, but the captains and higher members of the Warrior Lodges would be 'blessed' by several gifts of Nurgle.. bloated stomachs and entrails etc.
Typhon - May 9, 2007 05:56 PM (GMT)
thanks guys!
all the troops will eventually get a little DG symbol on their shoulder pads... thats gonna be a pain in the a** i tell thee!
but ultimately worth it

weird we must have replied at the same time :P
you make a good point, i will make a DP/commander for this branch of my force using the GW nurgle DP model in the same paint scheme(cant post the pics here though, i think)
he will be used to represent a certain character from the HH novels

Hi there,
Minis look fine, bit too much weathering for my liking and there are a few too many mould lines there marine so be careful.
On the subject of traitorous gifts, I'd have to say no.
The marines in the lodges are still astartes and would not openly display any of father nurgle's gifts at this stage. Take Meric Voyen, Apothecary in Garro's Command Squad. lodge member and still loyal marine. No marks of nurgle because it is the warmaster that leads then not the chaos powers at this time...they still work the strings in the background.
Also if this is a just post Isstvan force, the chaos taint would be very very light indeed, if at all descernable. Maybe do a few minis that are a little more corrupted, that way you could use it as a pre heresy loyalist force and a heresy traitor force before Nurgle's kiss takes hold?
Good luck, and definately lighten the weathering.
Although just read your footnote, if these are from the siege of terra then weather away and corrupt em up a plenty!!!
Damn them....Traitors of the Empire!
My Dusk Raiders will be beyond corruption!
;)

Typhon - May 9, 2007 09:58 PM (GMT)
thanks for the comment commander vyper,
these are actually the cleanest bunch in my army!! i have 2 squads from the around the year M40 and they are disgusting :P
these are next to get the heresy era treatment...
Angron - May 10, 2007 11:59 AM (GMT)
Very cool! The weathering makes them look they've been touched by the corrupted influence of Nurgle. Awesome.
Commander Bly - May 10, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
In Galaxy In Flames I remember reading that the chaos star was infact unusual to the astartes warriors and they just took it in as if it were their legion emblem.
This is of course just the SOH so I dont know if the other traitor legions did it but if I were you I may add in a few neat little chaos stars.
Just a sugestion :)

as i recall, i think it was the warrior lodges that introduced the chaos star.
cant wait to see more.

That's COMMANDER Vyper to you! ;)
Typhon - May 21, 2007 11:56 AM (GMT)
thanks for the comment
they are supposed to look like they have just had a visit from the destroyer hive (when Typhon/Typhus "guided" them through the warp) so i thought, without painting them green, that this level of dirt was sufficient, i still wanted their pre heresy colours to show through
plus the way i saw the DG from reading the HH novels was that they are footslogging trench warfare monsters and would always be covered in one thing or another
