Title: The heresy... justifiable?
Description: what would you have done?
Typhon - April 27, 2007 01:06 PM (GMT)
greetings brothers,
we all know the story of the heresy, how it came about, what events took place etc. etc. but if you put yourself in Horus' shoes (giant boots) would you have chosen the same path?
there are all sorts of deciding factors that shaped the story... did horus feel abbandoned by the emperor? did the primarchs (especially the traitor ones) and their legions feel they were far to superior to "normal" humans to simply be their protectors? as there were no "gods" that were believed in, did horus see himself as such? the way i saw it horus saw the chaos powers (gods as we now know) simply as tools he could use to gain controll of the imperium. but im rambling now
any way. things like how Erabus (of the word bearers) exploited horus' weakness (his desire to be remembered for eternity) when he showed him all the giant statues of guilliman, dorn, the emperor and some others in that dream world. would you have taken the bait?
i have to say it would have been a very convincing trick, but i would have probably fell for it and rampaged as horus did because i could relate to most of the reasons the traitors turned traitor
so, wether you actually play chaos or are a through and through loyalist what are your thoughts on the subject?

I can understand why horus betrayed the emperor, but he should not have been so foolish to belive what he saw when he was in that dream world. Although erebus was VERY convincing, I just dont understand why the favoured son of the emperor would belive his father was trying to ascend to godhood and leave the galaxy for dead.

i agree i did think that was a bit strange myself. but how could the emperor not have known that the word bearers where a liability and wanted to do the opposite of his teachings, hence Lorgors chastisement by the emperor. you know, i thought he would have seen that one coming

Yeah I know this may sound like the words of a hretic but if the emperor is so great and powerful why didnt he see this coming and then when magnus warned the emperor of horus's treachery he was going to kill him for disobeying him and using scorcery
Typhon - April 29, 2007 05:43 PM (GMT)
yeah its weird, alot could have been avoided. if the use of sorcery could stop a rebellion that would ultimately break the imperium in 2, would it be a bad thing to do so?
it seems that these events put forward that blindly sticking to your ideals may not be a good thing :ph43r:

Oh god im starting to think i should start a black legion army, I cant choose!!!
Typhon - April 30, 2007 11:47 AM (GMT)
how about a sons of horus force using black legion rules, would that work?
Commander Bly - April 30, 2007 07:14 PM (GMT)
Hmm yeah good idea, I might try that :)

If I was Horus my soul would have been corrupted on Davin and I too would have rebelled. If I remember the story correctly, Horus's wounds were servere and the methods used to revive him opened his soul for corruption.
The only difference would have been that I WOULD have JOINED forces with the Emporer and ruled the galaxy as father and son... oops wrong universe! :D

I think if I was Horus when Magnus took of Erebus's mask I would have realised it as a trick
Brother Perun - September 25, 2007 04:39 PM (GMT)
Horus was easy target for Dark Gods so he acted as their puppet. when he was wounded he was healed with dark powers and everything else is a history :D but i donīt understand how did he started to believe that Emperor had left him alone because he was after all His favorite son...he believed that he was acting rightly and that Emperor was puppet of Chaos, his mind was clouded... I would not believe to Erebus especially after Magnus moved Erebusīs mask...

I believe that it was just a story from the heresy that depicted just a few ways that Horus turned traitor -- with only those methods, I would have obeyed Magnus, and realized that even if I should turn to chaos, then was not the opportune moment.
If however, there was corruption also enamating from the temple then I would find it hard to resist.
And finally, if GW's old fluff remained, then possession ... daemons don't really give you much of a choice really, do they? :D
