Appearance: Carter MacPherson-Adams can be described simply in three words - tall, dark, and handsome - but what good are three words? The most striking part of his appearance are dark eyes nearly an ebony in color. Through his eyes the slightly distanced nature of his personality is shown, as well as the emotions he is feeling at the time. These almond shaped pools of emotion , which rather bushy eyebrows sit above, can seem sparkly and warm or cold and mean. His nose is a sloping, somewhat wide structure placed strategically in the center of his face. Midway down the long bridge of his nose there is a slight bump where it has been broken and thus appears slightly crooked. Full, pouty lips are centered below his rounded nose. When he smiles they stretch into a slightly lopsided smile and when he is angry they appear to purse so tight they're kind of thin in appearance. Over all his head is an oblong shape with a strong, defined jaw line and a chin both rounded and squared. Atop of this is a mess of dark, black hair which is at a sort of MIDDLE LENGTH CUT so as to allow for him to spike it. Sometimes this hair falls across his FOREHEAD but it is generally slicked back and up with gel. That is to say that his hair resembles something of a young Brad Pitts, save for the color, for those who might not be adequately educated in "average" styles [aka short in back (FALLS NO WHERE), longer on top (STILL ONLY FALLS, BARELY, ON FOREHEAD IF AT ALL). And across his chin and upper lip there is generally a small inkling of a five o'clock shadow.
Moving down his body a person would find a long, thick neck proportionate to his body. His defined adams apple, per usual with boys, is set in a neck centered on broad shoulders. However, his build is far from chiseled or quite as muscle ridden as his shoulders might suggest. His chest is wide befitting his broad shoulders and not at all defined. This is due to the fact that Carter is toned but from working on cars, not from being in a gym. He's not at all a gym person. His stomach is flat and much unlike the other boys his age the brunette has not completely shaved himself. He has a happy trail under his bellybutton and a hint of hair on his torso. He's not completely hairy but by nature he doesn't have a lot. Unlike other guys who go to the gym every day of their lives Carter's hips do not cut in, in a chiseled kind of way. Essentially he is a tall, slim kind of guy versus a big, beefy meathead type.
His arms are actually, noticeably toned and they are quite possibly his favorite part of his body. On the forearm of his right arm is a burn mark about three inches in length straight up and down. This was acquired from setting his arm on the hot metal of a recently melded car part. His long legs add quite a bit of height to his body and are of average shape and size, not skinny chicken legs but not exactly thick either. They are just a happy medium. These, of course, could be the cause of his six foot two height. He weighs in at an average 165 pounds.
Carter has a rather laid back sense of style. His everyday clothing consists of jeans, never baggy he hates that, and a tee shirt, usually. However, he can sometimes be seen wearing a button up shirt in a plain color, rolled up at the elbows. On his feet would be either converse or a pair of black work boots, they alternate daily and are never predictable. As far as extra jewelry goes he does wear a simple black watch on his left wrist, and a silver ball chain with a simple tag on the end of it around his neck. Occasionally his necklace is not worn but he rarely forgets it. As is customary for mechanics he usually has oil stained underneath his fingernails.
Personality: With his devil may care attitude and rebellious ways Carter Adams comes off as being a rude, arrogant, jerk. He truly is confident which makes him come off as a bit too 'in your face' for the liking of some people. But what comes off as him being a jerk is quite actually him being more smart than people expect. Carter is very educated and knows a lot about pop-culture. He also has the ability to actually think that he is who he is and if people don't like that he doesn't care. He wont redefine himself for them. This causes both awe and frusteration because with this attitude comes insufferable stubborness and opinionation.
It does not take a lot to anger the young man and even if you have for the most part you wouldn't know. He might have a short fuse but he's not quick to show it. This is not because he doesn't want to tell people when he's mad but its easier for him to bottle up the strong emotion. However, there are consequences to this. Because stress and anger are essentially one and the same, coming from even small occurances, when anything upsets the young man he just blows his top. Its like a violent earthquake which, if his power weren't so dilluted, could quite possibly happen. At this point Carter has reached the breaking point where he has no control over what he does be it physical or mental. There are no limitations he could as easily hit someone as just yell at them. For the most part when he is angry it is like a rage blackout.
There really is no saying what would anger him exactly. Carter could be just as easily pissed off by someone making a snide remark to him as looking at him the wrong way. He's very tempermental and wont stand for any signs of so called disrespect. But its only natural he was brought up being wronged and he wont stand for it anymore.
With Carter you always know where you stand. He's the type who will judge a person based on their first meeting and that opinion sticks with him until they prove it wrong. Some people are motivated to prove him wrong but others just say to hell with him. Either way this doesn't phase Carter, at least not outwardly. He'll tell you if he loves you or hates you regardless. But he may not be so indestructable as he likes to appear. These traits are all a part of the various walls built up to keep people at an arms length.
In reality Carter is a caring individual. He just doesn't like to show this side of him partially from the fall out with his parents. He was burnt by it as a child and he doesn't desire to feel that way again. If he keeps people out he can keep them from actually hurting him or from actually getting close to him. But if a person does earn a position in his tight inner circle of real friends they would see that he is very loving and loyal. He would fight to the death for a friend. However, very few earn this kind of trust. In fact, only nine or so people from his past could truly say they were considered a close friend by him. This could cause some people to say he is introverted.
That isn't to say that he is not a social person. Carter Adams is a very social, outgoing, extroverted to a point person. He loves to drink and he is unfortunately a bit of a smoker. More social than not, but he lights up when he is overwhelmed. This seems to calm him right down. People would never guess this of him, however.
When it comes to girls Carter loves them. He wouldn't quite settle down for a long term committment right away, but he isn't opposed to them. By far, however, Carter prefers short lived relations or flings. He just would rather a girl not be tempted to be with him because of where he comes from or who he is. In fact, he is so enthralled that if a female is particularly good looking and of one of the four families he does not like it wouldn't much matter. With males, he just hates them and either ignores their existance entirely or mouths off at them.
Powers: - Earthquakes/Tremors
This power is quite possibly the hardest for Carter to control. With this power he has the ability to make earthquakes to a limited magnitude. In fact, they do not even register on the richter scale but he can cause a house to rattle much like a radio with too much base turned on. The problem is that people can still feel them. When he's angry or upset he has to watch himself so as not to give his secret away.
- Trees/Roots/Plants Manipulation
His secondary power, and the one he has the most control over, is the ability to make trees/roots/plants move how he wants to. He can cause them to grow, he can cause them to trip people, he can cause them to die. However, he is not able to predict when this power will work and when it wont work. Thus sometimes he is left looking rather silly if he's trying to impress one of his family members. The limitations to this would be that he can not cause something that is dead to spring to life, even if he is the one that killed it. Or if a tree is too large, like an oak, it takes a lot to manipulate and leaves him exhausted.
Hobbies: [GIRLS] Is this a hobby? Its more of a bad habit but Carter has something of an addiction. He's a sucker for a good looking lady. Consequently he is prone to numerous relationships gaining himself the reputation for being something of a serial dater/kisser/etc.
[CARS] A mechanic by trade this is no coincidence. The boy grew up utterly fascinated by the automobile. He only owns one himself, and its not quite what people would expect of him being rather er vintage, but he loves all equally. Even foreign cars. Though if it has to be chosen he prefers Ford over Chevy (he has a mustang), Honda over Hyundai, and Coupes ove Hatchbacks.
[DRINKING] Not quite an alcoholic but not quite a casual drinker either Carter is very definately Irish. His roots come out at night when he is around a crowd. He wouldn't drink by himself, he considers that taboo still, but with a group he would.
[WRITING] This is something of a hidden talent. There is nothing better to him than a good, strong cup of coffee and blank paper. He loves to write and is working on getting a book published. However, nobody knows of this.
[MUSIC] Classic music really, but not quite what you'd consider classic. Aerosmith, Def Leppord, AC/DC, and the like are all what he considers to be classic. Carter would listen to this all day if he could but his mechanic buddies would kill him.
[EDUCATION] Liking to know what he is talking about and to be well informed about what is going on Carter reads quite a lot. He is educating himself every day and this shows. However, its rather an obnoxious habit.

History: On January the 25th Joanna Lydecker and Thomas Adams were given the gift of a child. The boy had a full head of brown hair and was named nearly on the spot Carter Josiah Adams. For the entire first night the boy never left the room his mother was placed in, she barely let his own father hold him let alone the doctors who wished to take him away. He was with her all night and only after she had fallen asleep with him in her arms had Thomas been able to pry him away. Yet still the baby slept in his crib, not in the nursary, but at the foot of her bed.
However, the joy was short lived and midway through building a nursery two weeks later Joanna was subject to ridicule and stern talkings from her family. Joanna knew that the child who came from love but not wedlock would be looked down upon since the day he was born but she had hoped she was thinking in vain. How could one not like him after one look at his little face all lit up with joy? Her family didn't think the same being very devoutly Christian. She badgered Thomas for three weeks to get married and save her the distress but he refused every time until finally she gave him an ultimatum - if he would not wed her she would leave. Thus the two joined in holy matramony in the courthouse the following week. It was a lame wedding but her family was appeased.
Life was like this for Carter for as long as he can remember, always trying to impress his mother's family. They were of old money and owned mills around the country. His father was of money as well but not nearly as much. Thomas had a small inheritance from his late parents but it wasn't what the Adams family had once owned. Nor did he place upon his son the rules that his wife and her family did. He did not make him wear his Sunday best when visitors were coming, nor did he monitor his behavior so as to avoid rough housing. At five years old Carter wanted to join football but his mother claimed it was too rough for him. Secretly his father let him play and for a while Joanna had no idea, but she found out. And when she did she was none too pleased. In fact, it started a series of fights that would rock the Adams family.
Attending school during the day and doing homework at night for quite some time, nearly seven years to be exact, His parents would never fight in front of him. This wasn't because Joanna didn't want to but Thomas refused when his child was present. He never wanted his son to be the type to blame himself for the shortcommings of his parents. Thomas knew theirs was not a marriage made to last, they had never planned to be married in the first place. Still his efforts were fruitless. At twelve years old Carter heard his parents argue when he was watching television in his room. He heard a door slam and that was the last he saw of his mother for quite some time.
The next time she reappeared in his life Carter was fourteen years old and a talented basketball player. He saw her in the stands at one of his games five rows above his father, she was sitting with another man rather close. After the game when he was getting congradulated from his father she boldly walked up to them. It turned out that she was married again to a man named Geoffery MacPherson who had the same sort of upbringing she had. In fact, they were planning to have a child - hopefully a girl. At this thought Carter was extremely jealous and the next words angered him more so. His mother was petitioning the court for custody.
The following year was tumultous particularly since Carter was launched into high school during it. A war was raging between the Adams family and the newly formed MacPherson family. In the end, however, the court granted Joanna custody and Carter was forced to leave the only home he had ever known and the one person who had always been there for him. It was at this point that Carter became rather unbearable. He was stubborn and opinionated, loud and rude, arrogant and obnoxious and prone to short, direct answers. He had friends over but rarely the same ones twice and when asked to change his name he put MacPherson before Adams with a hyphenation. His reasoning? Carter told his mother he was of Adams blood before all else. He was an angry youth.
Much of his high school years were spent partying and drinking. He fell in with a rotten crowd but his mother could not contest them for his grades were all very high. The fact that Carter was finally being bearable to his step-father and half sister were reason enough for her to let him be. But when he turned eighteen that was over. Joanna and Geoffery came home from a recital of Adriana's to find cigarette burns on their carpet, beer bottles littering the floor, garbage strung about, and a passed out son on the couch. The neighbors filled in the missing pieces and when Joanna attempted to ground him Carter packed his bags and left. He went back to his father, who he had been visiting every weekend, to finish out his senior year.
Though he was accepted to several of the colleges he had applied for Carter turned down every one. Instead he started working at the local mechanic garage fixing cars. The pay was low but Carter didn't need it his mother was so eager to have him back, he was her weapon against Thomas, that she had never bothered to cut him off. His father had also set him up a small account. He never touched either bank account unless he needed it and instead lived off of what he earned. Eventually he had saved up enough, on the dawn of his nineteenth birthday, to move out.
The next two years were quite the same as always. He had random women in and outside of his house, visited clubs and bars, and he worked every minute he could. When he turned twenty one he had a huge celebration in town. His life, is as you can tell, rather average so far as young adults go.
