Name: Rolan Spade
Nicknames: None
Family:
Age: 35
Gender: M

Species: Human
Sexual Preference:Heterosexual

Avatar: Tom Beringer
Appearance:
Peppered short gray hair in a bowl cut fashion. With a wide forehead, rounded cheeks and a medium-to-largish sized smashed nose accompanied with wide nostrils. Deep sunken sockets hold faded olive colored eyes accented by dark shady eyebrows. Finished off with a pouting mouth and blunt chin all on a narrowed oval face.

Little stubble along the cheeks and chin usually collects after a day of not shaving. His hair is kept slicked back opening his forehead up even wider. Rolan is a medium built man standing 5’9” and weighing 145 in pounds. His arms are stocky, his legs toned and his gut almost protruding.

He sports a tattoo on his right bicep of a Confederate flag being held in the claws of a soaring eagle. He doesn’t own nor wear any jewelry.

When Rolan dresses out of uniform it is in jeans, long sleeve shirts tucked in, a leather belt with various buckles to choose from. He favors his brown leather dress coat for added protection against the cool weather or just for style.

Personality:

Rolan is an angry man. Not that he is dangerously hostile but he keeps a lot of burden riding on his shoulders. To help with the load he has become an almost daily boozer, waking up to scotch and having vodka nightcaps. A good man at heart but in general he’s cynical, pessimistic and just plain ol’ rude sometimes.

To his Roswell police companions though he’s a good cop who puts his job in front of everything even with the internal demons he struggles with. To them he is a brave, bold and chivalrous officer who upholds the law.

When not doing his duty as a Roswell investigator, Rolan enjoys a nice fishing trip on his own boat, a hunting trip into the woodlands, camping and other outdoor recreational activities. He’s just a typical southerner on most parts, loves grilling while drinking beer and telling tall tales, likes to sit around on his days off watching sports games or workin in the yard.

But there is always that burning anger inside Rolan. This anger stems from the fact that his own wife and child was taken from him by a homicidal maniac and as a husband, father and a police officer he failed to save them in time. Now he regrets that moment for the rest of his natural born existence. His anger is seriously spurred when he comes in contact with violent offenders, those accused of murder, rape and other heinous crimes. He has a nasty reputation of getting rough with people on and off duty. Though he has never crossed the line to severely in his line of work he has been known to manhandle suspects and others.

Rolan is good with children though, he does not allow his anger to show in front of kids. His own son was taken from him at the early age of twelve.

History:

Roland P.(Philip) Spade, born August 14th 1972. As a child Rolan grew up in northern Louisiana. There he enjoyed the open acres of his family’s farm and became a master tree climber, frog-catcher and bird hunter with his Daisy BB gun.

His father was a successful business man who ran a farm supply store. On the farm they had several horses, hogs, cows and chickens. The latter three were mainly for food. Rolan’s mother went to nursing school and became a NP at the local hospital.

Through his high school years Rolan played football, took shop classes and couldn’t wait to get out of school. He developed a drinking habit in his senior year and was almost kicked out of school. He finally just got his GED and decided to leave town.

When he turned 19 Trevor decided it was time to leave home. There was no serious problems between him and his family but the simple tension of living with them drove him to wonder what else was out there. Taking all his savings from past summer jobs and current work Rolan packed his car and headed east on hopes to reaching Florida. In his youthful hopefulness, Rolan thought he would land a great job near a beach or a party strip and live on easy street in the sunshine.

But he only reached as far as Roswell Georgia. Maybe it was fate or maybe it was just bad luck but that’s when he got a flat and realized he had lost his wallet somewhere along the way.

His pride was too steep for him to call home and ask for help. Instead he took the last bit of money he had shoved in the glove box and sold some of his things. He was reduced to sleeping in his car for a few weeks while he looked for work.

Finally after being arrested for vagrancy he decided to become a police officer. The charges of vagrancy were later dropped when he swore to the judge he would find work and a place to live refusing any housing assistance.

After being part of the Roswell Police force for a year, rising in rank very quickly, he met his future wife Erin Holt. She was a young twenty year old ambitious woman. She found Rolan to be a sweet young gentleman who loved his job dearly.

They were married a year later when she discovered she was pregnant. At first Rolan was scared to death that he would be a father, now in his mid twenties he’s still felt like he was not prepared to start a family. Then when the young bundle of joy was born Rolan soon found a part of himself he never knew was there. He learned his was a great loving and nurturing father.

For twelve years the Spade family lived happily. Rolan became more and more grounded in his family life while simultaneously achieving success as a reputable Roswell officer. Erin became an accountant and their son Sam was a bright young boy that made his father quite proud. Erin never told her husband anything about the Holt family or any of the other families in Roswell thinking she was keeping out of those affairs.

Then one night Erin and Sam were murdered…

It was May 5th 2005 on a gloom-stricken rainy night.
Rolan arrived at the scene but was not allowed to see his family or even allowed to work the case. Distraught, Rolan returned to the station in a fit of surreal panic. After the night was over he was discovered passed out in the shooting range with an empty bottle of whiskey next to him. He was offered two weeks paid vacation but only lasted two days before returning to the force but as a completely different person. There was a bitterness to the once friendly man.

The night of his family’s murder has haunted him ever since. What haunts him even more was that the murders still remain unsolved to this day.

Now 35, Rolan is a detective for the Roswell Police Dept. His drinking habit has began to consume him more and more every day. It has been two years since his family was taken from him but to him it still feels like yesterday.

He is still clueless to the secret behind the six families in Georgia even though he unknowingly was married into one of the families. To Rolan, he just believes “Holt” is a common name in these parts and draws no inference into the family name.

Just a few things -

Apperance: what kind of hair cut does he have? You know like buzzed, bowl, shaggy, long, medium, etc

Personality: does he get physical with people who anger him? Or does he keep it bottled up?

History: Perhaps elaborate on things a little more. There are a lot of one liners that could either be combined with each other, made into their own paragraphs, or striken out. It feels more like a list than a story in a way.

Also how does he know about the Holt family and others? Its never explained but mentioned.

He doesn't know about the Holt family, that's the catch.

Erin never told her husband anything about the Holt family or any of the other families in Roswell thinking she was keeping Rolan safe by leaving him out of those affairs.
