Name: Valkyrie Ventana
Nicknames: Valkyrie prefers to not go by any nicknames. However, she became accustomed to kids in school shortening her name to Val or just V.
Family: Ventana
Age: 22
Gender: Female

Sexual Preference: Heterosexual

Appearance: Valkyrie is a petite girl. She stands all of 5'3. Her physical stature was inherited from her mother. Valkyrie tries to stay fit with out being an athletic person. Her weight topped out at 107 pounds. Though petite she was, she always looked healthy and not anorexic in the least. Her legs were slender with out giving the appearance of "chicken legs." Her legs were short though and her torso long. This resulted in her pants always being too long and hanging around her shoes, and her shirts being slightly short in the midriff.
Another inherited trait from her mother, was Valkyrie's porcelain skin. Her complexion is as pale as a porcelain dolls. Not as pure though, because she had inherited from her father freckles. Most women chose to cover their freckles, or imperfections, with make up. Not Valkyrie. She liked her freckles, they gave her character. This isn't to say that she shied away from makeup, she just made sure to accent the features she like best. She wore dark eyeliner, and eye shadow to accentuate her eyes. She loved her eyes. She could speak loudly with her eyes. They were dark, almost to the point where they looked black. They were sensual. They were "take me to bed" eyes. She also never wore any real color on her lip. She would make sure to apply lip gloss to bring out the natural tones in her lips, and that was it. Her nose is long and slender, not a button nose type. She also has a small mole on her right cheek. It is on the apple of her cheek, and when she smiles, the up turned corner of her lips points directly to it.
Valkyrie has dark brown hair. The color being dark often times gives her pale skin a sheen that people associate with the un-dead, thanks to an on slot of vampire horror movies. She changes her hair often though, style wise. She loves to change it, almost allowing her to appear to be a different person from time to time. Mostly though, it is kept around shoulder length. She has natural wave in her hair, and on most days that is how she wears it. She very rarely straightens it, saving that for special occasions.
Most girls her age have gone through some sort of wild stage in their lives. They have random piercings, or tattoos. She saw a lot of this in college, especially the sorority type girls. Valkyrie has none of these. She did get her ears pierced once, and on occasion wears a pair of small silver hoop earrings. Other than that, no extra wholes added to her body, and certainly no added inks. She doesn't mind these things on others, she just prefers her body exactly the way it is.
Personality: Valkyrie is a quiet girl. The Ventana family is rather large and full of dominating personalities. Having grown up in that atmosphere, Valkyrie always felt rather minuscule. Her shyness developed from that. She comes off quiet and perhaps having some social phobias. That stems from her never really putting herself into situations where she will be bombarded by a lot of people who's personalities are overwhelming. She is not an unsociable person though. She likes small groups of people. She belonged to a book club while away at college.
Another reason Valkyrie is quiet and avoids large groups of people, has to do with the family "curse." She is uncomfortable with her power, and that of her family.
Powers: The Ventana family's powers stem from the element of air. Valkyrie has had only one power develop and that is all there will be for her. Her power is Stillness. She doesn't have control of her power though. Her power first appeared when she was a small child, around 6 or so. She was playing in a field with her mother. She was running ahead When she disturbed birds that were hidden in the high grass. The birds scattered as did multiple butterflies. Valkyrie stopped and turned to watch the birds and butterflies catch the breeze and fly above her head. Before she knew what was happening the breeze grew dead still, and the birds and butterflies seemed to almost freeze in the air. The tall grass didn't move, all was in complete stillness. She turned to see her mom standing there a bit frightened. Then just as quickly as the stillness came, it went away. The birds left, the grass and trees moved. Valkyrie has never been able to learn how to control it. It happens just like it did that day. That is a huge part of desire to only be in small groups and to remain the quiet person in the room. She is less likely to frighten people like she did her mother that day.
Hobbies: Valkyrie belongs to a couple book clubs in Athens, where she went to college. That is about the extent of her hobbies that involve other people. She also writes short stories. Her stories are mostly children's stories, fairy tales and bedtime stories. Either way she spends her free time in a fictional world.
Occupation: She has just graduated from the state university, UGA in Athens. She was a degree in English Literature. While in school she worked for the head of her department, editing and grading papers. Just returning to Roswell, she is left looking for a job. She is thinking of working as a private tutor for a while at least.

Parents:
Mora Landing Ventana:(48) Mora lives in Roswell alone. She has a small house on a dead end street. She works as a school teacher and has no social life out side of her class, which is a class of second graders. She tends to her rose gardens and is often seen talking to her cat, Charlie.
Franklin Ventana:(65)Franklin was older then most when he met Valkyrie's mother. After he and Mora split up, he raised Valkyrie on his own in Roswell. Their house is in the historic district. He worked as news paper editor. He retired 2 years ago, while Valkyrie was away at school. He moved out of town, up onto Lake Lanier. He built a small cottage on its northern shore. He still owns the house in Roswell, that Valkyrie is returning to. He is a nerdy, quiet bespectacled man. Though he has given up the news paper business he still spends his mornings mastering the New York times crossword puzzle. He passed on his love of words to Valkyrie.
Siblings: only child
Other Members: Valkyrie is a member of the Ventana family, so she knows she is liable to run into someone she is related to in town. The ego's and dominating personalities though, those are the reasons she chose to distance herself from that family as a child. She doesn't deny her family, just doesn't seek them out.
History: Valkyrie was born in late September, the 22nd to be exact, 22 years ago. Her parents, Mora and Franklin, had been married for 2 years when she was born. Franklin was a cursed Ventana, though the only power he has is the ability to make the temperature in a room rise or file. He was weak in the realm of powers. He was often the butt of jokes as a child. His 2 brothers both had strong powers. They each could transform into misty like ghostly images. They looked at him as some sort of failure or freak for not inheriting a strong power. Mora on the other hand was just a mortal human. She grew up in a home where she was an only child and lived in the upper middle class Atlanta neighborhood of Morning Side. She had moved to Roswell for a job teaching at a local elementary school. She met Franklin while her class was on a field trip to see how a news paper is made. The kids were fascinated with the presses, and she was charmed by Franklin. They dated for 6 months when he asked her to marry him. That spring, they were married at Callaway Gardens. It wasn't long before she was made aware of the "Curse." She was initially frightened and confused. It was one of the reasons why they had waited 2 years before having a child. she grew alright with the whole thing, though she remained uneasy. Franklin had felt sure that with his lack of power, any child of his would be powerless. So they decided to start a family. Thus Valkyrie was born.
Mora named Valkyrie. It was out of her uneasiness that led her to name her that. Valkyrie means chooser of the slain or bringer of the dead. In her eyes the Curse meant death. Giving her baby girl this name she felt it ensured her good fortune, as a chooser or bringer of the slain/dead, and not being the slain herself. In her eyes it would keep her from being cursed.
Franklin was promoted to editor at the paper, and the family moved into a home in the historic district of town. For the next 6 years, the family was happy and prosperous. Then while in a field in the country side, playing with Valkyrie, Mora witnessed her daughters own powers. It deeply frightened her. She knew she couldn't live around such power. She also knew that as part of the curse, once a child is in the family, she could choose to leave. Leaving though meant leaving her child. For the next 2 months she was tormented, leading to a nervous breakdown. Franklin had her placed in the hospital. It was at that time that she told him that she couldn't live there anymore, the curse is what was leading her to madness. Knowing that Mora's torment was over her anguish of leaving Valkyrie, he swore to her he would take take of Valkyrie and that it was okay for her to go. By the time Mora left the hospital, she no longer had any memory of Franklin or Valkyrie or their life. Franklin made sure she had some place to go. He had bought a house, in her name in a quiet neighborhood. She still lives there today. She never remarried or ever even dated.
While Mora was left with no memory, Valkyrie remembers every day spent with her mother. Most prominent though, was the day she kissed her mother good bye, in the hospital. It was the last day that Mora was ever her mother. She was only 6 at the time and didn't really fully understand. Truth was at 22 she still didn't fully understand. She had been crushed by her mothers departure and felt abandoned to some extent. She knew her mother wasn't well, and her going was the only way for her to get better, but for a child it was still painful.
Valkyrie loved her father though. He meant the world to her. He had done everything with in his means to make sure her childhood was a happy one. He doted on his daughter, while making sure that she wasn't a spoiled child and that she understood the importance of being nice and caring for others. He pressed the importance of an education on his only child. He made her work in school, though the work assigned for her age was easy for her, he pushed her to expand her mind further than what the public education system called for. Franklin never said she wasn't allowed to date or play sports in high school, she chose not to on her own. She felt awkward around kids her own age. It didn't matter though, she was happy. She gained early admittance to the University of Georgia, and headed off to Athens.
While at UGA, Valkyrie earned a degree in English Literature. She worked in the English department during the school year, for going the college wild social life. It was there that Valkyrie had her first intense relationship. She began seeing an English professor with in the department. He was 10 years older than her, and she thought he as absolutely brilliant. His wit and intelligence charmed her. His name was Martin. Martin had written a novel a couple years before and it has spent some time on the best sellers list. He hadn't written anything since, but that didn't matter to Valkyrie. He thought her writings were extraordinary and that was flattering to her. Their relationship began with late dinners while she was grading papers for him. Then it quickly became drinks at the end of the day. It wasn't long before their relationship was physical and intense. It was also very much a secret. Martin would most certainly would have lost his job and she would have been kicked out of school. Valkyrie fell in love with Martin. For a while, she thought he had also. As she was finishing her degree and about to graduate it became clear that wasn't the case. Martin had started flirting with another co-ed. He didn't want her to stay in Athens. Valkyrie was heartbroken. The day after graduation, she left with her things, and with out saying good bye.
She wasn't sure what she was going to do, so she spent the summer at her father's, on the lake. It was then that he told her she could go back to Roswell and live in the house. He had never been able to sell it. It reminded him to much of Mora, and how much he loved her. There was no way he would ever be able to let anyone else live in that house. After much contemplating, Valkyrie decided that she would like to go back to Roswell. She is uncertain of her future, or what it is she will even do. She also knows that there is the possibility of running into her mother, but perhaps her heart has been broken enough that she could deal with that. For now though she going to try to make a life for herself, in Roswell where the "Curse" lives and breaths daily.
