I done some searching on Net Nanny and:
"Content Filtering
Use the Internet filter to remove objectionable words and phrases from chat, web sites, and newsgroup postings. Mask obscene words."
Sound peculiar?
Sure it's probably not Net Nanny, but maybe some other software with a similar feature was installed, or something...
