Open up a new transparent 400x150 image for this tutorial.
Step One: The first thing you want to do is create a border. I used Black for the outside, blue for the middle, and black for the inside, but you can use whatever colors you want. This layer should ALWAYS stay on top.

Step Two: Create a new layer. This will be the background color, this should always stay at the bottom. Choose a background color that you like, and fill it, or just use the classic "filter>render>clouds" technique.

Step Three: Download brushes from http://www.sigsource.tk or http://www.spoono.com and install them. Now create a new layer, and drag it so its underneath the border. Select the brush tool, and a color that you feel comfortable with and start brushing. When you are brushing you want to try to cover a wide area of space but you do not want it to be to dense or thick. Once you get a feel that you like make a new layer and repeat. You should repeat until you have a nice grungy feel for your sig. You should never use the same color more than once, try to keep colors to their own layers. You may need to tone down the transparency on some of your layers.

Step Four: Once you have these layers, select the eraser tool, select a grunge brush as the eraser, and start erasing random parts so it gets that grungy feel. This next part is optional: Now use some of the techy brushes to give it a mixture of grunge/tech. Change the opacity on this layer and start erasing with a grunge eraser until its hardly noticable.

Step Five: Find an image of a cartoon character or your favorite actor or something or something on google, copy the image and open it in a new document. Select the polygonal(sp?) lasso tool and carfully maneuver it around the image so that you have a nice clean cut of the image. If you just keep trying that part of this step then use this precut image. Paste that image into your sig. Do not apply a stroke, if you do it will look retarded in the next step. If you do a stoke, do not do the next step. Name that layer "character". Use the move tool to move the image to the edge of the sig, where it should meet with the border. Drag this layer up so it is right below the borders layer[the top layer]

Step Six: Highlight the layer "character" and add a layer mask. Select the gradient tool with the defaul settings and drage it around your image so that it blends. Set the opacity to somewhere around 85-90 and use the eraser tool on the upper edges to give it a grungy feel.

Step Seven: Now its time to add text, select the text tool and download some fonts from www.spoonloads.com and www.dafont.com then install them. Creat your name or whatever text you want on the sig. On your name or whatever, go to blending options>stroke and whatever else you feel is necessary(sp?). It is a good idea to add a grungy texture if you fell like making one, or just set the "fill" to about 30% so the text is transparent. Set the strokes opacity to either 40 or 50, or somewhere inbetween If you want to, you can make a new layer underneath the text, select the rectangle marquee tool, and draw a rectangle around the area of the text. Fill this with whatever color you want, and put down the "fill" transparency to about 20%. Once you have done that go to blending options>stroke and creat a 1pixel black stroke.

Step Eight (optional): Once you have added text, feel free to add a quote. Go to www.dafont.com and download some pixel fonts, then use them to create the quote. If you go to google.com you can search for things like "Napoleon quotes" or something of that sort, until you find one that you like. Once you find your quote, write it on your image with your pixel font. Go to copy the layer style of your maintext, and paste it onto your quote text. If you don't like how this looks, edit the layer style. There ya go, your all done with the sig! Now host it and use it!
