Getting Started

What is all of this?

Infinite Horizons is a setting best classified as Futuristic Fantasy. It's relatively low-tech, in comparison to other things labeled as "science fiction," a place where anything is possible, both literally and proverbially. Fate and the occult intervenes with reality, impossible events take place, creatures of myth have been revealed to exist, and races only of legend and speculation have come to be discovered.

What is Roleplaying?

Infinite Horizons (IH) is a free, diceless, play-by-post roleplaying game. You create your own characters and select every aspect of them as you please. As you begin writing, other "authors" will join in, adding their own characters and helping in developing the plot. Eventually you have a small piece of a story. Here, you write as your character--but in third person, of course, like a book--and interact with other people's characters. In short, Infinite Horizons is simply an ongoing collaborative story.

On these forums, you may play a diplomat for the government, a rebel against prejudice and war, a common thief, a marine, a pilot, and much, much more. A creative and friendly community has been composed--you can also be a part of it.

.:: Joining?

Want to join? Well all right then! Onto registering.

Your username can be anything. For most, it is a character name, but the username you pick is your choice, except for a few rules:

The username cannot contain numbers, and has to contain capital letters. It's recommended that this username be a character name.

At any point if you would like it changed, feel free to PM me. But please don't abuse this right.

First thing: READ ALL THE RULES. This will generally cease any confusion. If your question still isn't answered, then feel free to private message or instant message me, or one of the moderators.

.:: Required Reading

This is reading that is necessary to understand IH, and to begin your experience, and create your first character. New members should read everything on this list.

1. This covers the basics, and gets your feet wet. Need to Know
2. Races Next, read the races, to get a small idea of what type of character you want to play as. Read over each thoroughly.

3. Next, read over the Character Profile Format to get a glimpse as to how your character profile should look. While reading this, look into the Character creation process for guidelines, the professions forum for jobs, and the skills forum.

.:: Things to do

1. First of all, you can always introduce yourself in the OoC forum. Feel free to ask questions, and they'll be answered as soon as possible. Need help? Just ask. Someone will answer your question, usually within a few minutes.

2. Explore. There is much to be read, here. In order to get the full experience, reading the Compendium is recommended. If you don't want to read all of that, having a basic grasp of the locations and races is good, too. Here for the locations, and here for the races.

3. Familiar with things? Create a character sheet, and join the rest of the roleplayers. (: Read over the information offered and such, and create your own sheet. You can't roleplay until you've created a character sheet. See the appropriate forum on how to go about this. Go here for more information: Character creation

Now, once your sheet is done, post it in the Unaccepted Character Profiles forum. It will be checked over, and if anything is wrong, it will be noted. When it is acceptable, it will be moved to the Accepted Character Profiles forum, and you will be able to roleplay.

4. Start roleplaying. You can create your own thread, or join someone else's. But just to be courteous, read over the thread you're thinking about joining thoroughly before doing so. You can also go about your roleplaying on your own, creating your character's story. Or a mix of the two.
