Title: Star Ocean 4
Description: New Star Ocean game in the making?

AngelicARMMaster - May 1, 2007 07:22 AM (GMT)
Yeah, according to the latest SquareEnix party, a new Star Ocean game is gonna be announced at May 11. Are you excited? I sure am. I love the Star Ocean series maybe even more than I love Tales, so I'm definitely very excited about this. I just wish that this new Star Ocean game is just as awesome or even more awesome than Star Ocean: The Second Story, the god of all Star Ocean games.

Anyways, discuss.

Ritios - May 1, 2007 10:58 AM (GMT)
YAY! Other than tales and a couple of other non-series game SO is one of the only other Real Time Action Battle System games that i know of. I'm excited that there will be another game in the series... I'm tired of having everything in SO: TtEoO
and its just boring now T-T

Bunnywisk - May 1, 2007 12:03 PM (GMT)
I'm one of the few who actually really enjoyed Star Ocean 3 (I hate it when people enter the threads in other forums just to flame SO3... talk about annoying). I played through it twice, and got everything my second time (hooked on for 92 hours). XD I've never played Star Ocean 2, but I am excited about Star Ocean 4.~ I hope it's just as good or better than the other ones. X3

Leon Magnus - May 1, 2007 09:21 PM (GMT)
Well, like some people, I didn't enjoy SO3, not hate, not love, but a little below the middle. But SO2 was the love. xD Mainly because of a lot of things SO3 removed. Like cooking, and the skill system and such, and the ability to see the prospective of 2 characters. (Choose Claude or Rena) Though, I find it weird that I got Rena a 900 ATK gauntlet while Claude still has 500 ATK total. I hope SO4 add them back in, or make more stuff that makes it better than SO3. Though I agree, SO3 flamers ARE annoying. >>

AngelicARMMaster - May 2, 2007 04:21 AM (GMT)
I love both SO2 and SO3, and I think that they are great in their own ways.

SO2 is awesome because of its skills/talents system, where your characters can learn different abilities depending on what skills you upgrade. I thought that was really awesome, since it made character customization incredibly deep. I also love the characters, and I think that SO2's battle system is better than SO3's, because it is more fast-paced and action-packed and it makes great use of the skills system.

SO3 is also awesome. It's sudden change of systems might be a surprise, but it was still great. This time, character customization was replaced by equipment customization, the ability to modify and upgrade not your characters, but your equipments. I thought that was pretty nice, but I preferred character customization. SO3's battle system was more strategic than SO2, because it uses the "Fury Gauge" and it emphasizes a rock-paper-scissors kind of battle system. Nonetheless, the characters were great, and the game itself is also awesome (though not as awesome as SO2 IMO XD )

Anyways, I also hate the SO3 flamers. I mean, SO3's an awesome game, and they flame it just because they think ToS is better. I think that's just stupid. If they have different opinions, then they should learn to keep it to theirselves, and not try to force it on other people by expressing their hatred of SO3 in the mass public. (especially this...one forum whose sole purpose is to bash SO3... Ooooooh, I hate that place!)

Anyways, I can't wait for SO4. I hope that Tri-Ace combines SO2's deep character customization with SO3's strategic battle system. That would be awesome.

By the way, my most favorite Star Ocean characters:

-Dias Flac (SO2)
-Fayt Leingod (SO3)
-Nel Zelpher (SO3)
-Claude Kenni (SO2)
-Celine (SO2)
-Souffle Rosetti (SO3)
-Rena Lanford (SO2)

Majin Rengokusatsu - May 2, 2007 04:40 AM (GMT)
I also loved Star Ocean 3, It was a great game. Most people hated the fury meter, but I saw it as a tool of strategy. You couldnt just repeatedly attack or else you would be weak...weak i tell you

Sirth - May 2, 2007 11:44 AM (GMT)
Eh, no offense, but I'm one of those guys that don't like SO3. Played through it once at least, but I don't think I want to bother with it again. I won't go to the level of outright bashing it, since I DID enjoy it the first playthrough, but I feel it was worth 20 bucks, while some of the other games I have would be worth higher or double that.

Didn't really appreciate the battle system (No, it wasn't the Fury gauge. You'd be saying Destiny 2 sucks with the SP system.). Just felt clunky to me. Characters were boring as hell. Most of them that were mainly involved in the story were serious the whole time, showing barely any other emotions or feelings at all. Their designs also seemed to lack any kind of diversity (Hell, I feel the original Phantasia designs were much better.)

Again, I was able to at least play it through once and enjoy it, but I still feel it was a lackluster experience. Maybe some day I'll try to pick it up again when I'm bored (Tried to once, and just said forget it.)

I'll keep my eye on 4, in case they're able to do something that'll catch my interest.

Leon Magnus - May 2, 2007 08:48 PM (GMT)
So3 to me was decent. Even though I only played it once like Sirth, I still think that it was pretty decent though. I didn't like the cahracters all that much, but some were interesting. But SO2 was love, and I liked SO1. =D ToS isn't a god-like game, even if it's the most popular in Americana~ I mean, no game can really be better than another. It's your opinion and your entitles to it. But forcing others or just bashing a game you didn't like just isn't what you should be doing. Games can have feelings, too.

I'm an SO3 Flamer. But I flame not because I'm a huge Symphonia fan. But because I have many reasons to dislike it. It's too cryptic on some parts. The guiding was poor and I had to use a walkthrough to get pass the game, and it's unbalanced. I forced myself to train and managed to get the Bonus Gauge to get more EXP just to survive on the next area. I deleted it the file, thinking I would never get through it. And I finally found a way to abuse the Bonus Gauge on a certain area to get A LOT of Experience.

Hey, the battle system is great and fun nonetheless. However, I dislike the aspect of the Fury Gauge and how it is Semi-Auto. I dislike how you can't block strong attacks without a full Fury Gauge but it was too difficult to maintain a full Fury Gauge unless I got a really good refined item. Also, the Capacity Points that restricted moves annoyed me a lot. And I dislike how it is Semi-Auto because when I attack, and I change my mind, I can't CANCEL IT OUT! I could go on forever picking at what I think are flaws to SO3 but that would be disrespectul to this topic. I can also defend Symphonia. It's only a matter of opinion on which system is "superior" to the other.

I might get SO4 out of curiosity. Is it on the PS3? If so, then nevermind.

ilikedragons - May 3, 2007 12:33 AM (GMT)
i loved Star Ocean 3!!! Albel FTW!!!

Awww, you're mean. :sob:

Anyways, with reason or not, no one still has the right to openly flame a game they don't like. You have to consider that not everyone dislikes SO3, and there are also a lot of people and critics who liked SO3. If you guys hate it so much, then you could at least keep that hatred to yourself. I mean, just like what Bunnywisk said, people get really annoyed by SO3 flamers who enter threads just to flame SO3.

And...I completely agree with what Leon Magnus said:

No.

NO.

We were stating our opinions. I do not want to see someone telling me to not state my opinion just because I don't like something they love, and that I'm "mean." It's the concept that something is not for everyone, and preventing the other side from voicing their opinions is more mean than them voicing it. We were not outright bashing it, we were stating our opinions. I wouldn't have said anything if I didn't see the "SO3 Flamers are bad" sentence.
If you can't tell, you have offended me by telling me I shouldn't voice my opinion, and making me angry is rare nowadays. Accept the fact SO3 is not the perfect game. Oblivion is not the perfect game, Final Fantasy is not the perfect game, TALES is not the perfect game. Please tell me your problem is you can't grasp the concept that SO3 is flawed like everything else. Hell, both me and Sunny said we enjoyed it to an extent, we just felt it wasn't a great experience that we'd rank it as one of our favorite games.

That said, we're waiting for info on SO4. We're waiting to see what Tri-Ace will do for the next installment. That's what this is for.

So what you're saying is that SO3 lovers are free to shove their opinions down everybody else's throat, yet anyone who disliked the game should just shut up because their opinion is mean and different?

Star Ocean 4 will rock everythin'!!

As a person, thank you! I <3 you now. We were pretty darn good in not flaming SO3. XD

As a moderator, tone it down a little. As an admin, I've got a responsibility to prevent things from escalating and from my point of view, I think you almost did that. I like Angelic Golem too for finally disagreeing with the board. We need more differences. Anyways, you were rational enough not to flame - and what's what I exactly wanted from this forum.

That's...a good argument! ~_~; *Stabbed by AG*

Sirth - May 4, 2007 12:59 AM (GMT)
I apologize if it did seem like it would of escalated. I felt it would of caused problems.
However, I also felt something needed to be said. Outright flaming is wrong, I'll agree to that, but criticism and opinions of experience like ours shouldn't be discarded or pushed aside because it's negative in any form.
It's fine to love something. I do too. I have obsessions as well, some of which I know not everyone loves or can love. But to disregard a group of people because their opinions differ from yours is outright fanism. I've been on the receiving end of such a thing. It was painful, and I almost lost a friend because my opinion was different, until until I threatened to cut ties with them.

I apologize to be going off topic, but I felt this also needed to be said.

Leon Magnus - May 4, 2007 01:26 AM (GMT)
ANYONE can state their opinion, openly and freely, Though I only don't like it when someone says: "So3 sucks and ToS rulez lol" or etc. The normal saying: "I didn't like So3" or "I hated it" without going into 1337 or speaking noobish, then I am fine. But as I said, I really didn't like SO3 much either. But that doesn't mean I flame it by resorting to noobish, but the way Sunny and Sirth stated it is fine. And saying something like "Your mean" can just make things worse. Because everyone has opinions, and their interests, so you can't force someone to hate or appreciate a game that they loved/hated.

I understand completely. If I were you, it'd be no different. Bottom line, that was a normal response. ~_~;

Woah, woah, I said NOTHING about not voicing negative opinions about SO3.

I believe I was talking about flaming SO3 openly. Expressing opinion is different from flaming, and flaming is the thing I'm complaining about, so I have no idea why you're getting so angry for. I have no problem with people voicing their opinions about SO3; I do get annoyed, however, by people who enter threads simply to flame SO3.

What the heck? I was addressing the SO3 flamers! When I said "hatred", I was referring to the flame messages that the flamers post on the forums! Is it so wrong to get annoyed by people who outright flame SO3 or any game that they don't like?

No. If you haven't noticed, I was referring to the SO3 flamers... It's not right that they enter threads just to flame SO3 (especially when they do it in n00b language), when we're just peacefully discussing about SO3...

I don't even know where you guys got your idea of me saying that you shouldn't voice your opinions... I was merely stating my complaints about people who flame SO3...

Sirth - May 7, 2007 04:53 PM (GMT)
You gave me the impression that ANYONE bashing, or making negative statements about SO, is mean.

You called Sunny mean because he didn't like SO3 as much as you.

"...with reason or not, no one still has the right to openly flame a game they don't like. You have to consider that not everyone dislikes SO3, and there are also a lot of people and critics who liked SO3. If you guys hate it so much, then you could at least keep that hatred to yourself."

This is what caused me to act. I'm sorry, I see now you were referring to flamers only. But again, after Sunny's post, you gave me the impression that you meant ANYONE that found the game lackluster.

I too find such people annoying. I gave up defending the English Tales of Eternia long ago.

Do NOT, insult this forum. You don't seem to understand that you STARTED the controversial spark in the first place. How dare you say that? If you refer to SO3 flamers as a REPLY, when there isn't ANY SO3 Flamer besides me (And respectfully, I was NOT flaming), so how do you THINK we were going to react? We thought you meant US as the flamers.

This is clearly a misunderstanding. A complete misunderstanding on your part.
