Title: Anyone think Legendia was a step back?
TheSpasticFantastic - May 28, 2007 04:18 PM (GMT)
In terms of game mechanics. Whilst Symphonia and Rebirth made advances in the battle system, Legendia went back to 2D battles and bought back the FOEs last seen in ToD2-J, but introduced Climax Combos, a new way of learning spells and the dash through.
IMO it was one step forward and two steps back. the dash through was nice, and the climax combo was useful but the 2D battles combined with FOE meant that it felt like a step back.

Reduce enemy HP, and it'd be a lot better.
IMO, I loved the battle system. The FOE can get annoying (especially since some effects don't wear off on their own unlike ToD2), but it made a good challenge.

As much a I loved Legendia, it was a major stepback in my opinion. If it was tweaked a little, it would have been better than Symphonia. Let me just clarify several examples:
Battle
- Add Multiplayer (HUGE Reason why Legendia wasn't enjoyed)
- Add Hi Ougis (A major dissapointment when Hi Ougis were not seen)
- Change Backstep (The backstep in Legendia was too slow and it was a literal backstep)
Also, the SFX were kind of soft this time around. If it had better SFX, it would have been more enjoyable. If the battle system was like ToS, JUST LIKE ToS, but graphics remaining in Legendia style, it would have been a lot more enjoyable.

Yeah, I didn't like the sound effects either. They felt too weak.

> Not so chibi characters (at least not in battle)
> Add Hi-Ougis
> Give 2-4 skills to the spell casters
If they made the battle system like Tempest's it'd be even better, the 3 line thing.

Okay, yes multiplayer. I got bored of hi-ougis a bit in ToDR. As long as the hi-ougis aren't really simple to activate, I'd be fine with it.
Backstepping wasn't really necessary to do in Legendia's battle system, as far as I played. I pretty much ignored it.
I never pay attention to the sound effects, but the slashing sound does sound odd...
And I love the chibis, I wouldn't want them to be changed.

Well, the slash sound effects were great, everything else didn't please me.

They should fix the dash, because that made the game much easier. Especially in RM.
