Title: Could a game hero EVER use the water element?
Seraphim Swordmaster - July 7, 2007 07:02 PM (GMT)
And I'm not talking your Lost Magic style "Oh I can use Water along with so many other things" hero. I mean, could a hero using the Water element ever be a great lead character to play as in a game? What do you think?
NuklearArel - July 7, 2007 08:43 PM (GMT)
Yeah, in games where you choose an element of your own.
But to think of it, I don't remember any main hero using water by default.
ilikedragons - July 7, 2007 11:14 PM (GMT)
i was about to say Veigue, but i remember he used ice...
Sirth - July 8, 2007 12:09 PM (GMT)
Ice might as well be water anyway.
I guess ice and water are just hard elements to picture for a hero, unless they're like Veigue. Unless they're a mage I guess.

I know what you mean, and even then Water seems to be the underdog element. The only genuinely good character that I've seen use the water element is Alex from Golden Sun, and even he didn't end up being playable... Oh well...
By the way, what's the definition of being "like Veigue"? Screaming loudly?

What about Piers?
Oh wait, that's not the main hero.

I guess it's because the main hero always uses a sword and it's hard to think of water techniques that coincide with the sword.
Seraphim Swordmaster - July 8, 2007 03:53 PM (GMT)
<_< Hrm... I guess so, but surely they could think of some good ones if they put the effort in...
King Dhaos - July 8, 2007 04:48 PM (GMT)
Not all main heros use a sword, the main character from Tales of Legendia uses his fists! :D (I think that is the only tales game where the main character didn't use a sword.)
Isenet - July 8, 2007 05:19 PM (GMT)
Would it be difficult to find water techs that fit with a sword?
I mean...When you're using a sword, you're supposed to use it flowingly, like water, right?
...Hmm...
Majin Rengokusatsu - July 13, 2007 07:25 AM (GMT)
i can t hink of some water type techs...ill type em later tho. i am dead tired
Silverdragon15 - July 19, 2007 06:23 AM (GMT)
Hmm...when I think of water techniques and swords...I can imagine Tidus's Brotherhood from FFX. Also, I can imagine the sword being able to break apart on impact and then attack the enemy in the form of bubbles...just for the hell of it.
Humble Novice - July 19, 2007 09:48 AM (GMT)
It would be nice to see a water elemental hero for once.
Silverdragon15 - July 19, 2007 02:25 PM (GMT)
It's odd, but I have a feeling that somewhere, there is a main character who uses water as their main element...
...But I think it was a cartoon, not a video game.
Sunny - July 19, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
Omi from Xiaolin Showdown.
Silverdragon15 - July 20, 2007 04:18 PM (GMT)
That's it! You're right, Omi...
Now, for games...I don't think so.
NuklearArel - July 20, 2007 06:14 PM (GMT)
The Xiaolin Showdown game, perhaps?
Now for a game that's original, I really think the only ones are those "choose your element" games.
Isenet - July 20, 2007 07:23 PM (GMT)
True...I mean, most of the time, the main hero is a hot-head, and usually fire is quite well associated with aggressiveness...
So, basically we need a very calm, level-headed main hero...=/
Sunny - July 20, 2007 10:32 PM (GMT)
It would be a nice change to see a cool headed hero for once instead of a young, brash runt. Veigue was cool-headed, but of course he had temper whenever Claire was in danger. =)
Seraphim Swordmaster - July 22, 2007 11:03 AM (GMT)
I just hope that Ocean's hero, Sema will deliver the goods then, as he's very level headed, doesn't rush into anything anywhere and uses water as his element. I found I actually had a lot of fun playing around with the water element for techs.
Still, I'd like to see a real games company take on the challenge of a cool water using hero.. But nothing like Tidus from Final Fantasy X. That game was about as entertaining as being locked in a cold, dark room with nothing but a mouldy old shoelace for company!
