About the Player

Name:
Nekochi

RP Experience:
I've only been role playing for about two years, but I've been writing stories since I was in kindergarten. I view role playing as something like writing a story with a bunch of people. ^-^

About the Character

Name:
Princess Liana Liara "Riri" La Mercury (Note: In the Japanese language, there are no "L"s and "R"s are used instead. The "R" sound is somewhere between the hard "R" sound and soft "L" sound in the English language. Hence why Liana Liara has the nickname Riri. Also, she is now officially the queen, but she won’t be known as such until she marries or her mother dies.)

Planet:
Mercury

Age and Birthday:
May 23rd; 17-years-old

Appearance:
Riri is rather short for her age, measuring only 4'11". She has straight chestnut brown hair that goes a little past her shoulders when it is down. However, she rarely ever wears it down. Most often she wears her hair in two high pigtails that end just above her shoulders. She ties these up with pale yellow ribbons. Her other main hair style is a bun tied with a red ribbon on the right side of her head which then falls into a pony tail, wrapped in the same ribbon. She has large sapphire colored eyes that appear extremely innocent or as if they have the ability to see into your soul intermittently. She has a mole birthmark directly under her left eye. She has a small nose and a small mouth which is a light shade of pink and almost looks like it has been tinted such artificially. Her face always seems to hold one of three expressions; happiness, curiosity, or a sort of thoughtful sadness. In line with her short stature, Riri is rather petite all around. She weighs only about 98lbs and has a dancer's build; long legs in comparison to the rest of her body and a short torso. Her skin is light without appearing to be pale and has a healthy glow to it. Her breasts are rather small, like those of a much younger girl and her hips also lack development. In fact, she looks so young that many people often think she is much younger than her 17 years.

Riri loves to dress cutely. Whenever she goes to court balls she wears a cobalt blue dress with a full skirt. The fabric is bunched together and tied with pale yellow ribbons so that it would create creased little lumps of fabric. The dress has four straps holding it up which are also tied with ribbons at the top. The top of her long white gloves which reach up about 4/5ths of her arm are trimmed with red ribbon tied in a bow at the top. She also wears red ribbons around her ankles which are tied in bows at the bottom. She finishes the outfit with red flats. In her senshi form she wears her hair in pigtails tied up with pale yellow ribbons. The bow on her outfit is of the same color and is made of a thinner ribbon than the rest of the senshi. In the middle of the bow is a white starburst which is a lot like the one on Saturn’s outfit. The collar itself is a cobalt with gold lines on it instead of the normal white ones. The edges of the collar stick out a bit more than usual. (Much like the collars in the Sailor Moon Musicals.) In the middle of the v-shaped tube of fabric that forms the transition between the white top and the cobalt skirt, there is another starburst. Her gloves that reach up about 4/5ths of her arm are white and end in a v at the top. The v is trimmed with cobalt ribbon and a gold star in the point of the v. Her boots are the same cobalt blue with a reversed v which is trimmed in white at the top. The v also has a gold star in it. There is a pale yellow ribbon that looks a lot like the one in the front on the back of her outfit. The only difference is it is a little bit bigger and lacks the starburst of the one in the front. The most interesting part of her outfit is the cobalt ribbon around her neck. On it there are a gold star, moon, and sun hung from clear pale yellow beads. The differences in her fuku show her insecurity and her dual personality. The ribbons represent her youth and innocence and the starbursts and the ornaments on her chocker show her bravery and responsibility to the moon and Mercury. Once she becomes secure enough to show her whole personality and not just part of it, and gives up her denial to except her father's coming death her fuku will change to one closer to the other senshi's.

When Riri is dressed casually her outfits are still rather ornate. She likes to wear frilly lacy dresses in one of her three favorite colors, cobalt, pale yellow, and red. The dresses almost always have full skirts and make her look even younger than she already looks that she is often treated as a little sister. At bedtime she wears a light blue fleece nightgown with pale yellow smiling suns, moons, and stars on it. She carries a favorite stuffed animal, a fluffy white cat and wears her chestnut hair down. She also wears pale yellow slippers in the shape of a smiling star. Altogether the look is a very childish one, especially when she is sleepy. She normally walks quickly, and sometimes skips like a young child would. When she sits and stands she normally stand fairly straight unless she is reading in which case she slumps terribly over the book.

Personality:
Riri is rather cute, cheerful, curious, and above all, childlike. She is one of the youngest of the senshi, the same age as Serenity, and because of this she has long been the pet of many of the people around the castle and been somewhat spoiled. She loves the attention, and luckily it hasn’t made her bratty. Most of the time she is a carefree child. Almost nothing makes her angry and when it does she is quick to offer forgiveness. Her biggest flaws are probably the fact that she feels she has to hide her more serious side, her extreme case of denial, and her inability to deal with the imperfect world she now lives in. She is rather smart, but she feels that if people see this side of her they will think she is arrogant, and they won’t like her. She is also afraid to show this side of her because it is much more intuitive. Her father is suffering from a severe illness and if she acknowledges that she is smart she will also have to accept the fact that her beloved Papa is dying. At the same time she would also have to acknowledge the fact that all of the training she is doing is for killing, something her kind heart will not allow. When she becomes upset she will bury deeper into this half-invented persona (I say half-invented because it is a large part of her personality, it is just not all of it) and pay attention to only frivolous things like parties and dresses. She will also speak in third person when she is upset because she is subconsciously trying to compensate for her feelings and make herself go back to the happy time of her childhood. She is also afraid if she doesn't act like a child everyone will see through her disguise. Only her closest friends know this habit.

She is a rather obedient young woman and will do anything authority figures ask her to as long as they are not asking her to do something wrong. The orders that she always obeys, no matter if they are right or wrong, are those coming from her father, mother, and Serenity. She usually obeys orders from younger authority figures as well, though she is a little bit more lax in this. She loves all of the senshi and considers them to be her best friends and like her older sisters. She even treats Serenity like an older sister, though an important and highly respected older sister who is sometimes too busy for her and needs her protection. She loves Serenity, but sometimes she feels like she is a burden to the princess and that she is wasting her important time and feels slightly more comfortable when it is just the senshi. However, this is a fear that she keeps well-hidden and even Serenity, the senshi, and her beloved Mama and Papa don’t know about it.

Riri can be serious when she needs to, especially in affairs having to do with Mercury or Serenity’s protection. In fact, the people of Mercury know well of this seriousness and because of it feel comfortable having her as a ruler. Most of the people at the Moon Palace never see this side of her and have trouble believing it is there when they hear about it. Especially since she is constantly asking questions like a young child. She is rather in tuned to politics. She doesn’t necessarily like it, but she knows how important it is and always listens to the talk of others. Her cuteness and youth often works to her advantage in situations like these as people will talk about things around her and do not see her as a threat. Because of her need for people to see her as a child, Riri will only read the difficult books she really loves when she is alone. She loves to take the books from the library and find a small space and curl up there and read. These small hidden spaces make her feel safe and since she spends a lot of time in the multiple crevices of the castle, she is the most difficult senshi to find. She also loves being completely hidden on the lower level of the castle and sitting in the empty rooms, which are completely silent, but for the dripping of water, a sound she loves, and the scampering of rodents which don’t scare her much. The one type of book she tries to avoid is medical books which remind her of her father’s condition. Altogether, she is a very strong girl who will almost never cries except for small things such as a skinned knee or tearing her favorite dress. ;)

She also loves swimming and bathing, just about anything to do with water, really. She will often jump in puddles or play in the rain and get her clothes hopelessly muddy. In fact the rainy weather which is often present on Mercury is her favorite type of weather and she often gets tired of the sunny days almost always present on the moon. She loves to play any type of game with the senshi and Serenity. Tag, red rover, kick the can, anything really. Though her favorite is by far hide-and-go-seek which she is impossibly good at since she knows almost every small space on the castle or in the garden beyond it. She also loves to hear the senshi tell her fairy tales of princesses and knights and witches and heroes. The types of story she hates the most are ghost stories, which remind her of death and her Papa.

At parties Riri always talks to everyone. She loves all kinds of people and finds them very interesting. In fact one of her favorite subjects is psychology, though almost no one knows this because it would seem something too advanced for the young and simple girl that she is supposed to be. She is equally friendly to everyone and in reality doesn’t hate many people. It takes a lot for her to hate someone so when she does she has good reasons for it. For example, she dislikes the regents of the moon because she can see that they are working to try and steal the throne from her beloved friend, Princess Serenity. She is much more likely to dislike someone when they have bad intentions towards her friends or family than when they are trying to hurt her. In cases such as this she always treats them the same. One because she believes it is the right thing to do, and two because she can learn more information that way. She is very politically minded for one so young. Sometimes at a party she will slip and say something incredibly smart and shock the people around her. When she has done this she laughs and withdraws to the corner, or even leaves the room and seeks a comforting small space, for the rest of the evening.

Riri is overly trusting which has often gotten her into trouble before. When she is betrayed she is crushed, but quickly forgives the person which, if the person meant to betray her, can lead to her being hurt again and because of her high social position, consequences that could be much worse. She is also extremely gullible. For example, if someone told her a concoction could keep her father alive she would immediately believe them no matter what their past was, unless they were among the small list of people that she hates or dislikes. She will make friends with pretty much anyone and has a large amount of friends on Mercury. However, do to the fact that she hides her emotions under a happy face a great deal of the time, she really isn't close to any of them but Serenity, the senshi, and the regent on Mercury who takes care of affairs while she is away.

Riri doesn't have much a temper at all. However when she does get angry, it is because something really serious has happened (usually involving her friends somehow being hurt) and her anger is usually quite fierce. She will do almost anything to right the situation, even if that means hurting someone to protect those she loves. Many people think that Riri is a terribly cold and insensitive child because she has never once cried about her father's illness. This has led her to become somewhat alienated to her people. She could also be called somewhat of a doormat. When it comes to herself, she sees no need to keep people from abusing her and even if she did, is too nice to try and stop them. She only feels a need to protect others. Because of this she feels rules are set up by people smarter than herself and that it is important to follow them, no matter how impractical or unimportant they are.

She gets frustrated with fighting easily. She has never been good at physical attacks
and has little patience with her slow improvement. She is deathly afraid that if she does not become stronger she will not be able to protect Serenity. She is afraid of death in general. It would be her worst nightmare to be the last person left in the world. Especially if she had let them die. Her views of "letting them die" are rather twisted and she thinks that if her father even dies while she is in the room that it will be her fault for not saving him.

Her symbols are ribbons and starbursts.

Attack(s):
Mercury Aqua Rhapsody- The attack from the manga and the show. She plays her Mercury harp and it shoots water towards the enemy, injuring them.

Mercury Water Ribbon- She shouts the name of the attack and her ribbons appear to turn into water and move towards the enemy, wrapping around their limbs, and trapping them. The ribbons still remain in her hair and on her fuku.

Starlight Starburst- She shouts the attack name and water emerges from the starburst on her fuku. She spins and the water hits the enemy in a swirl like a typhoon and heads towards them and when it reaches them engulfs them and then bursts. Injures the enemy.

Mercury Ribbon Starburst- A mix of the attacks Mercury Water Ribbon and Starlight Starburst. She performs Mercury Water Ribbon trapping the enemy so that they cannot escape her attack and then immediately afterwards she performs Starlight Starburst. The transition between the two is so fast that it appears to be one attack. Mercury Ribbon Starburst is more powerful than both Mercury Water Ribbon and Starlight Starburst combined and is her most powerful attack.

History:
Riri was born to the King and Queen of Mercury and as royalty, has known both Serenity and Asami all of her life. She has always been fond of Serenity since they were only about a month apart in age even though Riri didn't get to know her well until she was ten and became a senshi. She first met Serenity and Asami when she was three and went to the princess' 3rd birthday party. She was ecstatic to meet another toddler and princess as well as leave her planet for the first time. She had never been one to shy away from new experiences, though she liked to have lots of information before she tried something out. Riri had been awed by both Serenity and Asami and grew to adore them and greatly admire them. Her meeting with Acacia had been more difficult. Acacia was much older than Riri and had a gruffness of manner that she wasn't used to. In the end, the Jupiter Senshi gave into the happy child and befriended her.

She was always a happy child and rather easy for the king and queen and she was beloved by all of her friends and family and the whole of Mercury. It was these friends, especially the senshi and Serenity, and her dear Mama and Papa that mattered most to her. It was them that she loved most in the world. That she was willing to die for. Even in these happy days, she always knew she would one day take up the throne as well as become Sailor Mercury like her mother before her. She understood this much better than most people realized that she did and took it rather seriously. In secret at least. She didn’t want to alienate her friends by appearing to be too smart and so always studied privately. Still, on the planet Mercury at least, her intelligence was no secret, though it was questionable if even the people of Mercury knew just to what degree that intelligence reached. However it proved quite handy that this was a secret during political dealings, which gave Riri another reason to keep silent.

When Riri was ten her mother began gave her a transformation wand and began training her as a senshi. She was a dedicated and quick learner though she naturally was better at the almost magical attacks than the physical ones that her mother attempted to teach her. When she went to a ball at the moon palace that year she was beaming. She couldn't wait to tell Serenity that she'd be joining her as her second senshi and when she got to know Serenity she adored her even more than she had when she was younger. Despite her joy, like everything Riri did, she realized the seriousness behind her job and practiced often when no one was around. She also got books on fighting from the library and when she was fifteen and met Acacia she asked her to train her. The older girl agreed, but was confused as to the reason that Riri wanted to keep it a secret. Her new life at the palace also included many parties and formal functions. Luckily, this was something she excelled at.

Still, she found plenty of time to play and enjoyed her life, always seeing the bright side of everything. Perhaps it was this optimism that made it so hard for Riri when tragedy finally did strike. She was twelve, and had been a senshi for two years when she was suddenly called back to her planet. She sensed the urgency of the message and came as quickly as she could. When she arrived she found her mother crying over the bed of a very sick man. Riri’s beloved Papa. He had contracted a mysterious illness. No one could figure out what it was or how to cure it, though the best doctors in the galaxy were brought to see him. She eventually went back to the moon. She never told the other senshi what was going on and so they found out from other sources. In fact, she seemed to be perfectly fine to all but those who knew her really well. It was only at night that the effects of her father’s illness could be seen in the girl. She experienced insomnia for the first few months and wondered around the castle in the lower levels exploring the empty rooms. Finding small crevices and curling up there. She eventually was able to sleep at night again, and because of her duties to the Princess visited her Papa once every two weeks. It was after these visits that her heart hurt the most and she acted the most childish to compensate.

A year passed and then two. It soon became clear that the King of Mercury was getting no better and that his stability was due only the work of the best doctors. Riri was once again called back to her planet. This time to be crowned as its queen since her mother could no longer handle the task. She excepted and so did the people of Mercury, though she was only 14. Fortunately, the people of Mercury knew how smart and capable the young girl was. Since she still had her duties to Serenity, a partial regent was set up. He was a friend of hers and a loyal vassal to her parents and they both trusted each other very much. She went back to her planet every other week, both to visit her father and manage affairs of the planet. She is by far, the senshi who is at the castle the least. And though it is clear that her father is going to die, she refuses to believe it. Still, every time she comes back it is with a new layer of depression hidden by cheerfulness. More and more she is beginning to think of the time when Serenity was seven and her parents died and Riri was there to comfort her. And she can’t help but wonder sometimes, no matter how she tries to deny it, if she’ll be the one needing comfort soon…

Sample Post:
Riri stepped onto the soil of Mercury with her heart pounding against her rib cage. She wondered if it was possible for a heart to pump so hard that it broke the rib cage or if the heart would burst first. She traveled through the gardens of the palace. They were naturally lush and green as it always rained on Mercury. Today however, was a rare sunny day, but to Riri the sun just hurt her eyes instead of making her happy. Nothing could make her happy on the days when she went to visit her Papa. She entered the castle and her shoes clicked against the cold tiled floor. This was the place where she had grown up. It had so many happy memories for her. But now it always felt unnaturally cold, hollow, and empty. She walked up several sets of stairs until she reached her parent’s large room. The guards standing in front on the door nodded wearily at her. She hesitated before entering. Had they always seemed so old? Then she pushed her hand against the door to open it. She couldn’t tell if it seemed heavier than before like her heart or lighter like what was left of her father’s worn body, but she sensed it wasn’t the same as she remembered it.

Papa looked almost translucent and a rare sound like a choked sob escaped her mouth. But soon she was smiling again. Like always. She walked up to her father, first hugging her mother who seemed to be surgically attached to the bed these days and then bending over her father. She pushed hair off of his forehead and he opened his eyes. “I’m sorry, Papa. Did I wake you?” She asked in a childish voice.

He smiled. “No, Papa doesn’t sleep too well these days, Darling. But even if I had been asleep I would have wanted you to wake me. It’s not every day I get to see my favorite daughter.”

His voice sounded weaker than it had two weeks ago. But Riri just smiled. “I’m sorry, Papa. I wish I could be here more often. I’d be attached to the bed just like Mama if I could be.” This won a smile even from Liana Liara’s mother who didn’t smile much anymore.

“Never mind that. Your Mama and I both know that protecting Princess Serenity is more important than nursing this old geezer. Tell us a story from your time on the moon.”

She didn’t bother arguing with him. It would just make him upset and that was bad for his heart. Maybe if she told him a story she could make him laugh. Laughter was said to be the best medicine. Anything that would help him get better. She would even die if she knew it would help. But it wouldn’t. So she began her story, “Just a couple of days ago there was a ball at the palace. It was so funny! Acacia got so impatient waiting for the servants to come and dress her that she decided to dress herself. She hates having servants dress her anyways. You know how it is, she came from a poorer family and never had that. The thing Acacia forgot is that it’s so much harder to dress yourself in fancy ball gowns than it is to dress yourself in than the blouses and pants she normally wears. So she put the dress on backwards! She looked so angry that no one had the courage to say anything to her! Not even Serenity. So she spent the whole ball dressed like that! Then after the ball we went back to Serenity’s room and she started complaining about how uncomfortable the dress was and how she kept thinking the buttons would pop, and we all burst out laughing. She just looks at us, genuinely confused and then she looks at all of our dresses and sees that the buttons are on the back. Well, her face turns this bright red and she starts yelling and throwing pillows at us. Pretty soon it was an all out pillow fight! It was so much fun!” Everyone in the room laughed at Riri’s story, and it was even awarded with a chuckle by Mama. It was then that her Papa started coughing uncontrollably. Everyone got up to attend to him, but she just stood there with a neutral expression on her face. If you had looked at her closely you would have seen a look of terror in her eyes. If her father died now it would be her fault. In a little while, the doctors were able to get the coughing under control and she smiled. “Riri should go now and let Papa get rest. Riri love you! Bye-bye Papa!” Then she got up and left the room feeling worse than she’d ever felt in her life.

Hiya! I'm Mikomi and the admin around here. Welcome to Mare Serenitatis! :) You've got a great app here, but you'll need to clean it up a bit before Riri's accepted.

Appearance

- ‘Riri is rather short for her age, measuring only 4"11'.’ I think you mean 4’ 11” ;)
- Is her hair straight? When she wears it in pigtails are they high or low pigtails?
- Could someone mistake Riri to be a young child or is her age evident even though she’s short?
- Is there any reason Riri’s fuku looks different from the other Senshi’s? If not, I’d like it to be more uniform with the other Senshi’s. Check out Sailor Jupiter’s application if you need an example. Thanks.
- ‘ The dresses almost always have full skirts and make her look even younger than her 17 years so that even Serenity treats her like a little sister.’ Don’t make assumptions about how other people’s characters will treat yours, okay? We don’t allow Godmoding here. Just letting you know. ^_^ Seeing as I play Serenity, I can tell you that she wouldn’t treat Riri and differently than the rest of her Senshi.
- How does Riri walk? Quickly? Slowly? Something else? How about how she sits and stands? Does she sit and stand straight? Slump?

Personality

- ‘ Riri is rather cute, cheerful, curious, and above all, childlike. She is one of the youngest of the senshi, the same age as Serenity, and because of this she has long been the pet of the others and been somewhat spoiled.’ Godmoding again. It would be great if you could change that. ;)
- ‘ She will also speak in third person when she is upset.’ Any reason for this habit?
- You keep on calling her a child, but she really isn’t if she’s 17. Perhaps young woman would be a better term to use.
- ‘She is more in tuned to politics than most of the senshi.’ Godmoding. You don’t know how tuned to politics the others are. Asami, Sailor Venus, happens to be very tuned to politics as well. ^^
- How does Riri treat her enemies?
- What does she look for in her friends? Does she have any friends besides the Senshi, if so, who are they?
- Is she trusting, or does someone have to earn her trust - and how do they do that? How does she react when someone betrays her trust?
- What makes Riri angry? Does she have much of a temper, and what does she do when she gets angry?
- What sort of people does she dislike? How does someone become her enemy/get on her bad side? How does she treat people she dislikes/hates?
- How about people she's afraid of?
- How does Casey feel about rules, both important ones and ones that could be viewed as less practical? Authority figures? What about younger authority figures such as the other Senshi and Serenity?
- What does Riri find difficult? What’s she bad at? You don’t really have any outright negative flaws in her personality, just a bit of insecurity.

History

- ‘In fact she and Serenity were always great playmates…’ Godmoding. According to Serenity’s app, she didn’t really know any of the Senshi that well besides Asami growing up. Obviously she’d know Riri seeing as she’s royalty, but not super well. As for the rest of the paragraph, there’s a lot of godmoding in there as well, but you’re welcomed to keep the party part. I think it’s a good idea. :) She would have met Asami there though. Wherever Serenity goes, she goes. Just remember to take out the parts where you say what the other characters think about your character.
- ‘She also got books on fighting from the library and asked Acacia to train her. The older girl agreed,’ Godmoding

I've got one more comment, but I wasn't sure where to put it, so I'm just sticking it down here. ^^ I said that Serenity didn't really know Riri that well growing up, but I never said when they'd get to know each other. They'd do this when Riri became a Senshi, so when they were 10. :)

Sailor Jupiter - May 27, 2007 01:18 AM (GMT)
Just to let you know Princess Serenity, I already told Nekochi that I didn't mind the use of Acacia in the sample post, because Acacia's personality was really good.

However, I don't think Acacia would have known Riri, age ten, for Acacia would have been thirteen. At age thirteen, Acacia had only just met Sailor Jupiter, so she would not have known the other senshi for awhile. Acacia didn't actually become a senshi until age eighteen, but she probably had met the other senshi by chance during any events that Sailor Jupiter had taken Acacia along.

Just fix the age for that training bit and it'll be fine for me.

Nekochi - May 27, 2007 01:47 AM (GMT)
I've changed my profile a great deal and I think I've added everything you asked about. How does it look now?

Princess Serenity - May 27, 2007 02:09 AM (GMT)
Looks good to me! :) Congrats! Riri's officially accepted! I'm going to change your username to Sailor Mercury, okay? So remember that next time you log in. ;)

Feel free to introduce yourself in the introduction thread. You can post in the character histories area as well. And whenever you want to, you can start a thread. ^^ Enjoy yourself!
