Lakers place Cook on injured list; George activated

March 24, 2005
DENVER (AP) -- Los Angeles Lakers forward Brian Cook was placed on the injured list on Thursday because of a sprained right hand.

Cook was hurt during practice Wednesday in Denver, where the Lakers played the Nuggets on Thursday night. X-rays were negative and he is expected to miss two weeks.

Cook is averaging 6.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in 64 games.

Devean George, who has missed the entire season while recovering from ankle surgery in July, was activated from the injured list. George averaged career-highs in points (7.4), rebounds (4.0), assists (1.4) and minutes (23. in 82 games last season.

Lakers forward Lamar Odom missed his third straight game Thursday because of a left shoulder injury. He didn't accompany the team on its trip and will be re-examined Friday.

LA area radio is reporting that George should see some minutes agains the Nuggets tonight.

This is going to put the Lakers over the top. Biggest news I've heard in weeks.

I think Devean could help us much more than Cook can. I bash Devean George all the time, but if he would just attack the basket more, and play off the ball, he could be a pretty decent player. I'd rather him start than Caron, honestly.

I disagree. Caron is a much more solid player. The main thing Devean has on Caron is defense though.

Dev did have a solid game, with 8 pts and 5 rebs in limited minutes. He got into foul trouble but had a nice spark off the bench. It's a shame that the Lakers are going down like a sweet muffin...

Im a fan of George as a backup. He's a huge boost off the bench, but I wouldnt count on him for consistent production as a starter.

George is playing good lately IMO. He is hustling, has fresh legs, and is playing solid defense. He is even providing a boost on offense, with 18 points one night and 7 the next.

Keep it up Dev! :D
