Los Angeles Lakers guard took a recent shot at Kobe Bryant the other day when asked what moves he would make in the offseason to improve the struggling Lakers.

"I ain't the GM of this team," Atkins told the Los Angeles Times. "Kobe's the GM of this team. Ask Kobe. You've been watching this [stuff] all year. You've been watching it and I've been playing it."

Atkins has reportedly been frustrated with Bryant’s criticisms of his defensive play and Bryant’s numerous shots hoisted up every game.

Atkins told the Times "it was hard to play with anybody that's a star" when asked how it was to play with Bryant.

Not a good thing when a guy like Atkins is taking shots at Kobe. The lakers definately could be better with the talent they have. And it is true, Kobe does take too many shots and is obviously the priority of this orginization. Maybe the poor record is really getting to them.

Kobe was still averaging 5 APG at one time...

Well it is true. What kobe say will go.
Kobe should of been haven way more then 5apg. When he had shaq he should of had about 7-9.
Now he should be have like 7 cause he gets doubled alot. But i dont think odom Chucky abd Butler will be there nextseason.
They dont be lookin like they have fun playing.

If kobe and chucks are having problems, they should keep it in the locker room, instead of bringing it out to the media. I don't blame chucky for speaking up about Kobe... But I guess at this point, I could care less if Kobe and chucky atkins are on good terms or not. It's still kobe's team, and even chucky knows that. If kobe wants him gone, he should consider himself already out the door.

When teams get in slumps and start to lose its only natural for team morale to be in the dump. Chucky is mad and frustrated, the media asked him a question and under the circumstances he went after Kobe. He shouldnt have, buut he did.

Didn't chucky say he didn't mean to be a shot at Kobe or the franchise? Anyways, Kobe didn't chase Shaq or Phil out of LA, the money the two demanded did.

And Atkins should be thanking Kobe because if it wasn't for "GM Kobe" he wouldn't be a starter.

Just so you know, Kobe was averaging 8 assists per game earlier this season. His assists have been going down, but who does he have to pass to?

I've seen him pass the ball out to Chucky numerous times the past few games, only to have Chucky shoot 4-15 one night and 4-14 the next. Not to mention, Vlade Divac is out, and Mihm is giving them almost nothing. Odom is hurt and isn't playing. But yet Kobe is still averaging about 6 apg.

The team is adjusting to a new offense, and with the Lakers becoming desperate, what more can Kobe do?

Oh and Chucky finally took back his comments, and he and Kobe seemed to put this issue aside.

The 30-year-old Atkins seemed to backtrack almost immediately. Following the Lakers’ 96-89 loss to the 76ers, he acknowledged that while confidence and morale were down, team members were “too professional to point fingers.”

Following Monday’s practice, Atkins acknowledged it was “very possible” that what he meant to say wasn’t what came out, although he insisted the reporter questioning him had been trying to get him to say something negative about Bryant for weeks.

“I don’t think you should try to divide my team,” Atkins said. “We’re not going to splinter. Kobe’s my man. Me and Kobe have developed a relationship where anything I have to say to him, I can say to his face. I’m in a no-win situation.”

Only Atkins knows his true feelings.

“We’re in a bad situation right now,” he said. “We know that.”

“We really didn’t have much of a conversation (Monday),” Bryant said. “He was pretty adamant about how it happened, that it was taken out of context. Everybody here sticks together. We’re not going to let anybody divide us.

“If you guys are here to stir something up, you’re not going to get it out of me. All we want to do is come here, work hard, play basketball. We had a great day of work. There’s nothing going on.”

Lakers coach Frank Hamblen smiled when asked about the latest controversy, mentioning the problems the team had while it was winning.

“You always expect harmony to some degree,” he said. “Guys aren’t going to be best friends. You’ve got to work together. Anything that’s said in the paper is probably out of frustration.”
