Title: Jeff VanGundy fined
Description: for criticizing officials
detroit223 - May 3, 2005 12:42 AM (GMT)
Houston Rockets Head Coach Jeff VanGundy has been fined $100,000 by the NBA for criticizing officials. Jeff VanGundy has accused the NBA for targeting his C Yao Ming after Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban kept complaining to the league about illegal screens set by Yao Ming. $100,000 is the most fine by the NBA given out to a head coach. As soon as I can get a link, I'll post it. I know there has to be one because it's been out for a while but I heard about this while watching ESPN. I'd say $100,000 is a wee bit too much, don't you think?

$100,000 is a shitload of money.

David Stern it would not be tolerated, blaming Mark Cuban and the referees. I've said this MANY times today, but....
MARK CUBAN CAME BACK WITH SAYING ERICK DAMPIER GOT FOUL TROUBLE EARLY IN EVERY GAME, AND IN GAME 4, DIRK HAD 4-5 FOULS, AND IN GAME 5, HAD 5 FOULS, ALMOST FOULED OUT IN THE FINAL SECONDS, BUT HOWARD BEAT DIRK TO THE FOUL!!! NINE OFFENSIVE FOULS WERE ON THE HOUSTON ROCKETS WHO DON'T GET THEIR CALLS!!! NINE MOVING SCREEN OFFENSIVE FOULS ON DIKEMBE MUTOMBO AND YAO MING, NOT CALLED!!!!!!!
Should've done caps, my thumb is tired :D .

Don't complain about the refs when they saved your ass in Game 5.

No no the refs have been hating on Yao. He's getting called for regular season fouls, waqas. The game is pretty much being called equally except I see what Jeff VanGundy is talking about and from what I saw in game 5, I'd agree with him. WTF is wrong with David Stern tho. JVG said that a ref not working the games said that the league sent the refs a memo of who to keep an eye on and Yao Ming was one of those guys. I bet Rasheed Wallace was on that list too. -_-
Lone Wolf - May 3, 2005 07:54 PM (GMT)
His foul average went up 1 Waqas... it was like 3.4 to 4.4 (3.4 from Season and 4.4 from Playoffs)
Waqas - May 4, 2005 11:15 PM (GMT)
Dirk had 5 in Game 4 and Game 5! That's almost fouling out! Same with Erick Dampier, as well! Early foul trouble everyday! And nine other offensive fouls were on Ming and Mutombo, never called, and remember he was at the line 16 times in Game 5. You guys don't mention it, because he only made 10. In Game 3, seven attempts!
detroit223 - May 4, 2005 11:24 PM (GMT)
Yao has been in foul trouble too Waqas. It's basically costed Houston some games. The games that Houston has won, T-Mac and Yao have both played well. He's been in more foul trouble in the games they've lost. Dampiers is fouling Yao. Maybe he's trying too hard to proves he's better than Yao and that he's the "2nd best center in the NBA". rley.
Waqas - May 4, 2005 11:25 PM (GMT)
Well if Houston would win, it would take Yao and T-Mac! The Bench won't do much, but that doesn't matter. We just have a great bench.
GoSonics206 - May 5, 2005 12:13 AM (GMT)
Also, just because Mark Cuban said there were 9 fouls not called doesn't mean it's true. He has an extremely obvious and heavy bias and you have to take that into consideration when listening to his opinions.
Waqas - May 5, 2005 01:56 AM (GMT)
Well instead of Houston saying that they're down 3-2, why not talk about winning Game 6? Which Houston fan talked about Houston missing their free throws, especially Yao Ming, and once crucial freebie by T-Mac?
detroit223 - May 5, 2005 10:37 PM (GMT)
If Houston is not getting called for the fouls they're getting called for then the missed freethrows probably wouldn't matter. There are no Houston fans anyway.
Waqas - May 7, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)
Well the Minnesota Fans are Houston Fans now, because of me, lol. And those videos were actually ruled a clean offensive foul, but no whistle.
detroit223 - May 7, 2005 05:46 PM (GMT)
What videos are you talking about?
Sealy - May 7, 2005 06:17 PM (GMT)
I'm rooting for Houston and Seattle in the West and Pacers and Wizards in the East.

since denver was eliminated, im goin 4 the wiz

Theres a little "talk-back" involving Jeff Van-Gundy and Avery Johnson. AJ said that lets just froget about it and talk basketball, then Jeff saID THAT HE SOULD'VE BEEN more direct.
Lone Wolf - May 8, 2005 03:18 AM (GMT)
Johnson is becoming a prick. Being the head coach is going over his head.
detroit223 - May 9, 2005 11:46 PM (GMT)
The league said that they will no longer investigate the situation with VanGundy and the refs and all that. I guess all they needed was VanGundy to apologize because apparently that's the reason and he took back his comments. I think they said he made it up? :o. I heard this on the hotlist on espn. I'm sure there will be articles written and I'll post some as soon as they come out.
