Title: Agreement Reached?

AIfan1330 - June 21, 2005 02:56 PM (GMT)
There are early reports that a deal has officially been reached by the NBA and the NBAPA. Some of the agreements are:

- the new CBA is for 6 years
- there has been an age limit imposed: 19 years old

Does that mean there would've been no Lebron in 03-04, or was he 19?

EDIT:

Some more news...

Foreign kids can still be drafted at 18 under the new agreement.

The player's escrow account will be reduced from 10% of their salary to 8%.

Maximum contracts drop from 7 years to 6 years if you resign with your current team, and 5 years if you sign with a different team.

Contract rasies will drop from 12.5% to 10% on current teams, and for new teams drops from 10% to 8% per year.

Rookie contracts will lock early first round picks in for two years (rather than three) leaving the club with the option to pick up the last two years.

Player salaries are guaranteed and the cap is raised based on the basketball realtated income from 48% to 57%.

Lebron was 18 up to the new year, then he turned 19 on December 30th.

Everyone has to be 19, not just Americans.

This is great news!

yes, very good news. the only changes i would make are i would have the age limit be 20 and i wouldn't have made the contracts guaranteed.

Sealy - June 21, 2005 07:24 PM (GMT)
But do you really think the players union would agree to that? No way.

madsen35 - June 21, 2005 08:27 PM (GMT)
I don't really like the age limit rule, but I am just happy a deal got reached.

In soccer, you don't have to be 19. In tennis you don't have to be 19, and so on...

But hey, I don't have a say in this anyways...
