Vlade Divac staying in LA Lakers for one more season?

The press in Belgrade has released interesting information regarding the Serbian basketball legend Vlade Divac who is allegedly going to sign a new deal with L.A. Lakers by what he will get one more year to try and win the NBA champion’s ring.

Former Sacramento Kings center who won everything that he could with Yugoslav national side has “agreed” to a new one year deal by which he would receive a fee of 2,000,000 USD, while his current two year contract worth 5,700,000 is going to be paid to him in full since the Lakers are going to “fire” him first and then rehire the experienced veteran.

With Phil Jackson back in the role of the chief Divac’s dream of winning the NBA title maybe isn’t that far after all.

So what the Lakers are going to do is either package him in a trade and the team that gets him will cut him and the Lakers will pick him back up. Or the Lakers will buyout his $5 million contract and sign him for dirt cheap.

Either way, I say it is a good deal. He is perfect for the triangle and can play a few minutes off the bench.

Phil Jackson has been busy building his team anew, visiting with just about every player on the Lakers roster (Brian Cook has been out of town; Vlade Divac has been out of the country). Jackson has also been piecing together a coaching staff, confirming his talks with Scottie Pippen, who is indicating to those close to him that he'll be joining Jackson for this run.

Yea, Vlade will be awesome as a 2nd or 3rd string center for us. Put Vlade, Odom and Luke on the floor and get an abundance of easy buckets.

The main thing I'd be worried about with Vlade and Luke on the floor is that the defense would be terrible. Vlade is too slow and has no hops, and Walton is undersized.

But the offense would flow like a river. It would be beautiful to watch them execute the triangle offense to perfection. hpy.
