Title: Topic of Debate (rd. 2)

If you were starting a team, who would you rather have? Vince Carter, or Tracy McGrady?

This topic is open to everyone. Anyone can respond.

T-mac because he is injured less frequently.

T-Mac because he can score more. Also he is a good goto guy and a good leader. He is close to super-star level and he can play defense.

I'll play the Devil's Advocate and say Vince Carter. McGrady had his shot with the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference, and he failed. He proved to be a terrible leader when under pressure.

Vince has been rejuvenated as a star on a new team that he enjoys running with. I'd take Vince over T-Mac.

T-Mac proved with the Rockets that he could win and come big for his team. Like when he scored 13 in 35 seconeds. And when he made a shot in Game 2 of the First Round against the Mavs to win the game. I know their only 2 but he can come big. he hated it in Orlando not in his best. Same With Carter in Toronto he wasnet doing his best in toronto. neither was Tmac in orlando.

Vince has led his team past the 1st round before, meanwhile McGrady has yet to get out of the first round.

Reggie Miller always came up big for the Pacers, probably the "clutchiest" person in the NBA next to MJ...but he doesn't have any rings, either.

I give props to McGrady for what he did, but there are 82 games in a season, and each lasts 48+ minutes. He's gonna have to do more than what he has done...he should've been in the second round this season with a big like Yao. Vince came to the Nets and pulled that team out of hell and back into the playoffs, and even without RJ by his side. Kidd was doing well, but we didn't see the J-Kidd we are used to seeing, either.

Vince Carter might be the Rookie of the Year, and really, having either on your team isn't that bad, but...

T-Mac's dunk over you-know-who makes it clear. He broke Dallas's heart in Game 2, and with Yao Ming, the APG numbers can only go up!

HFC6 - July 6, 2005 02:06 AM (GMT)
If dunks decide the better player, then Vince Carter must be the best player in the world after that dunk in the 2000 Olympics.

What about T-Mac's shot in Game 2? Or that amazing performance in the closing minutes against the Spurs in the regular season? But Vince's team DID make the playoffs, and DID force a double-overtime, right?

I was being sarcastic, and you are picking out individual plays to represent what player you would want on your team if you were starting one.

Benjams - July 6, 2005 05:35 AM (GMT)
Ok here we go again Tmac was my favorite player untill he was traded By the Orlando Magic when after I soon realized how bad he is for teams. If you were starting a team VC would be the way to go because a bigger fan base and he is electrifying also he is just himself....but to go back to tmac he is just a sore loser he cannot lead a french army to its own death IMO he just is a bad person and you dont want that lazy half hearted play on a team you want the energy you want the VC

I don't think you can use that argument. You say KG is a better player than Kobe, but KG has never even been to the NBA Finals before while Kobe has helped his team to the Finals.

Lone Wolf - July 6, 2005 02:34 PM (GMT)
KG didn't have a cast like Kobe though. Kobe had Shaq. KG had who?

AIfan1330 - July 6, 2005 03:11 PM (GMT)
The big thing is:

"If you were starting a team"

Granted, Tmac isn't the most durable of players, but starting a team with a 28 year old Vince Carter? That's just horrifying right there.

Then there are some of you guys saying that Tmac's attitude isn't right. Well, is VC's any better? Didn't VC sit out a game once because his braces hurt? He even admitted that he wasn't trying his hardest in Toronto. Do you really want someone like that on your team?

Tmac WILL get out of the first round, and when it's all said and done, Tmac's career will be remembered as a better one than VC's.

I really think Tmac is the better player, I'm just trying to help the debate by defending Carter. ;).

And you're right, that first round thing really shouldn't reflect on his overall talent and skill but it did for Garnett and it will for McGrady. Garnett would get bashed year after year for not getting out of the first round, and McGrady will continue to get bashed until he does as well. People think just because you are a superstar you can literally carry your team into the postseason against GREAT teams. The only way to beat a great team is to have a great team yourself.

Wow, I waddled off topic for a little bit.
