Title: Disappointing Draft

Even with some high draft picks, the Lakers drafted a long-term center project, and really nothing for the present. With Phil only here for three seasons, which will go by quickly, the Lakers need a win-NOW mentality, not a win in FIVE years mentality. I know I keep on saying this, but why not get somebody else who would help right NOW? Phil is a very good coach, and with only THREE seasons, you don't want players that are going to be productive in four of FIVE!

This is a very good question. The answer is that Phil Jackson could sign a contract extension in 3 years when his contract runs out.

Also, some "insiders" have been saying that Bynum could be used in a package as trade bait for a marquee player.

We'll have to wait and see.

If the Lakers could JUST do what was expected and get a quality point guard to dish off to Odom and Bryant, but no, that won't be happening... *sigh*

Well the Lakers are going after Antonio Daniles and Tyronn Lue, two solid and unselfish point guards.

Idk about Lue. He has an attitude Suspended for 2 games this season. But Daniels is a great choice.

Well Lue would be a nice spark off the bench, and would be under control while playing for Phil Jackson. He has been in LA before and knows the triangle offense. He would be a good pickup for cheap.

YEAH IN THE 2000-2001 SEASON?

Yep, he was a Laker for 2 years. My favorite memory of him was in the 2001 NBA Finals when he game in game 1 and shut down Iverson. He almost won that game for us.

Daniels and Lue aren't going to get us back to the Finals. Both are backups, at best. Daniels' knees are going to hell now, and Lue doesn't have the abilities to operate for 35+ minutes in the triangle.

I dont think there was anybody in the draft who could have provided significant immediate help, so drafting a high-risk / high-reward center that could turn into something great isnt the worst of ideas.

Our second rounder, for 39th, should've been Gilchrist. Even though he's got problems, he's the second best PG in the draft skill-wise.
