Title: Lakers almost lost Slava

madsen35 - October 13, 2004 01:06 AM (GMT)
An excerpt from Phil Jackson's new book:

"A few hours later, during dinner in Key Biscayne with the staff, Vitti told us that Kobe has been threatening again to opt out of his contract, vowing "to take Slava [Medvedenko] with me." Slava? Was this an indication of Kobe's being totally out of touch with reality? If Kobe was interested in taking along a player who would defer to him, Slava Medvedenko was the worst choice imaginable. He hasn't passed up a shot since November."

ive got it all figured out.
while shaq was still in LA, he fed slava time release steroids, and they will come into effect this season, and slave will blow up to 350 lbs, and turn into the white shaq. eventually, kobe will become disgusted with slava, and run him out of town, just like shaq.

Slava is god...when he doesn't have to create for himself or play defense.

detroit223 - October 13, 2004 04:20 AM (GMT)
^^ And when he is opened. I wouldn't exactly call that good.

Sealy - October 13, 2004 04:28 AM (GMT)
note the sarcasm.

Smith - October 13, 2004 11:59 AM (GMT)
 I'm sure Sealy was being serious :P

like i said earlier in this thread, slava is god. he is the next shaq. the only hope the lakers have this year is slava. not kobe, slava.

the lakers are still high on slava because of a 42 ppoint outing he had in a preseason game way back when. i personally love having a shoot first guy like slava around, his instant offense will come in handy when grant, vlade, and mihm cant produce.

kobe+odom+walton+vlade = one heck of a passing team. put slava in with them and just watch all the open shots he gets.

Smith - October 14, 2004 01:01 AM (GMT)
Thats a good point. When the ball isn't in Kobe's hands you will most likely get a touch.

vlade in lakers gold.. i still cant picture it.. lol
i wouldnt call kobe a very good passer, but he can be if he wants to....
but we all know that probably wont happen this season,....
and by the way, when did slava get a 42 pt game??

big

ntw - October 14, 2004 03:20 AM (GMT)
it was in a preseason game before his rookie year.

he lit it up and impressed managment.

big - October 14, 2004 12:38 PM (GMT)
sweeet... a rookie dropping 42 on a team with shaq AND kobe is quite impressive.. even if it is preseason......... SLAVA IS GOD
ntw, i take it your a laker fan......?

detroit223 - October 14, 2004 03:07 PM (GMT)
Too bad he couldn't do it in the finals. LOL :D

big - October 14, 2004 05:10 PM (GMT)
didnt he accually have some decent games in the finals??
he has potential for this year... he might accally live up to our SLAVA IS GOD chants..

yea im both a lakers fan and a clippers fan. clipper season ticket holder B)

madsen35 - October 14, 2004 07:23 PM (GMT)
Actually ntw, I believe that Slava dropped 42 in a summer league game against the Portland Trail Blazers back in the year 2000, not in a pre-season game. Not that it really matters....

Anyways, Magic Johnson saw Slava drop 42 and decided that the Lakers should sign him. Magic was the one that saw his potential.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually I would say that he did good in the Finals. He scored 10 points in the final game as a starter in replacement of Malone and brought a rare spark off the bench.

ntw - October 14, 2004 09:05 PM (GMT)
you're likely right madsen35, i didnt see the game i just remember reading about it after we signed him.

and its true, slava does have amazing offensive capabilities. In the right situation I think he could average somewhere around 20-8... provided he improves his defense enough to get played the number of minutes a starter should play.

big - October 14, 2004 09:49 PM (GMT)
sweet sign ntw... nice to have ya aboard..
and you and madsen35 are correct about slava.. given the opportunity, he can really bust out.. lets hope he gets his chance this year now that shaq is gone...
as much as he tries to, kobe cant do it himself..

He scored 10 points, but once Sheed started to take him seriously, he stopped. But he probably does got game, but I'm always hating on the Lakers. Maybe not Odom, I like him, and Atkins, he was a fan favorite in Detroit.

sheed did shut down slava now that you think about it.. but the kid still has potential...
the whole pistons team shut down the entire laker team now that you mention it ;)
