Title: Whitehaven Date
Description: Smallest venue on the tour
cebse - May 1, 2006 11:37 AM (GMT)
What a great show made great by the very small venue. We were "way back" in row N but there were only four rows behind us what a great place to watch a show. Much much better than these great big places.
The only disapointment was the fact that Paddy could only manage to stay on stage for not even quite an hour(around 55 mins). And the fact that you could only buy a programe, where was the rest of the merchandice.
Still great to see him in the smallest venue on the tour though.

hi, welcome to the forum.
Glad you enjoyed the night, who was the support act for the night?
cebse - May 1, 2006 11:43 AM (GMT)
It was Rod and his gag about a town near Whitehaven called "Cockermouth" was great. Ive heard loads of gags about Cockermouth as you would expect but his was brilliant.

I can see where you're coming from -- small venues are probably a lot more 'intimate' (stop it Kay1!!) than the larger ones.
55 mins sounds about average for the show -- I think it depends on how much interaction there is with the audience. I don't think he's really done much more than that at any show, but I am happy to be corrected. Although it's never enough is it -- you always go home wanting more!!!
I think he's said before that eventually the tour merchandise will appear in the shop on his website, so sit tight and I'm sure you'll be able to get your hands on some of the gear at some point!!!
Other than that, welcome aboard. Much fun to be had!!!

Hiya, Glad you had fun in Whitehaven and welcome to the forum.
It sounded like Paddys show in a small venue would be nice and cosy. I think I'd prefer that than being on the back row of a huge theatre and watching Paddy perform as a little dot on stage!
However, I bet the feeling on stage for Paddy must be amazing at a huge theatre, knowing that thousands of people are here to see him., have paid to see him and are cheering for him!
I wonder what he prefers - small and cozy or huge and overwhelming!!!

P.s - Is anybody going to see Paddy in Rhyl and does anybody know what size it is.

Hello and welcome to the forum cebse :D Thanks for posting about the Whitehaven show. I don't suppose you have a rough idea as to how many people this venue seated? I know his warm up gigs that I went to were at very small venues (250-300 seating capacity - depending on which venue some had a fe more than the others). The biggest venue he's done so far was the Blackpool one with a 3,000 seating capacity and he absolutely loved it!!!! So did I come to think of it  it was a great crowd at Blackpool can't wait to see the show again when the dvd comes out :D I'm not sure as to why there weren't any merchandise on sale there, they might have sold out of some things? you never know.... hmmm.... I might have to ask about that ;) but I'm sure the merch will be available at his online shop on his website in the non too distant future. Glad you like Rod too :)

yeah just wait til next year you buggar when he will being doing more sell out gigs at a capacity of 1000x and 1000s and his ticket prices have rocketed - that is when he has made it good and proper cos we all know he is on the way up now - probably very close to the top!
He is always No1 in my eyes girls!

There would be arould 450 seats in a very small hall. Brilliant atmosphere in there and the night after Morrissey played there to to only 600 standing in his smallest date too and all the talk on that from fans and the promotion were that it was his best and favorite night of his tour so far. Only hope Paddy enjoyed it as much as the crowd did.
cheers

Nice one Chris!! (thumbs up) I know of a few artists who say they prefer the smaller, more intimate venues to the bigger ones

i think the smaller ones definitely feel more intimate - you feel closer to the crowd
