Name of DVD/series: Phoenix Nights series 2

Overall rating out of 5 : 5/5

Main characters: The normal characters

What extras does this DVD have? Brilliant outtakes, commentary and deleted scenes

What’s the episode about? It starts with Brian Potter on the stair lift on his way down the stairs all excited about the lottery results, just as the numbers are called out there is a power cut and he is left all night until a worried Jerry comes to rescue him. In the meantime Paddy is going through a saucy magazine with Spencer who is absolutely gob smacked and drops the glass he is polishing. Max is drooling over his own magazine with Kenny Senior and as the camera hones in on the ‘lovely body’ he is talking about, we see it’s a motor home, and Max talks wistfully about he wished he had enough money to buy one.

In the meantime Brian has finally arrived at the Phoenix to see Jerry has renamed it The Golden Phoenix and helped by the two keen Chinese (illegal) immigrants who speak no English, now declares that this is now a ‘Wok-ing Men’s club’…Brian is not impressed.

It’s Ladies Night and Paddy is chatting with Max about how the ladies inside will be gagging for ‘it’ when they come out and he well fancies his chances. Inside Kate Robbins (did you know she is Ted Robbin’s (aka Den Perry) sister? Also a small bit of trivia both are first cousins to Sir Paul McCartney) is putting out her bits for the Ladies Night and Holy Mary decided she will give a ‘Love Egg’ a try while she is working behind the bar…something she was very happy about later..

As the ladies arrive and are seated I see Peter had brought the family in again and there are quite a few shots of his mum, Deidre, at the back.
In the meantime Paddy has disappeared and re-appears on stage as Lord Love Rocket…say no more…you ladies know what I mean!

Max is outside being propositioned by ‘Fanny’ who asks him to “take out” her husband. Max says “oh like an escort service” and she explains she wants him dead and is prepared to pay initially £4000 but Max later insists on £8000 as he needs to pay Paddy and wants to buy his dream motor home.

Later Max is helping out Paddy in the loo after he was molested on stage “good job I farted” Paddy says “or God knows what would have happened”..He can’t believe his luck when Max says they can earn £1000 each for bumping off Fanny’s husband.
Off they go next day with Max’s brother in the car. They stop and Max pulls out a package, Paddy says “what’s that? Packed lunch?”..Max unwraps gently a very old Broomhandle Mauser which belonged to his granddad who had a run in with a German….in Benidorm over a sunlounger.
Paddy managed to shoot Max’s brother during a practice session….but session over they decide they will do the job.

They wait outside the restaurant for Fanny and her husband to come out and drive to a quiet spot for a bit of slap and tickle..just as they settle on the blanket in the field Max and Paddy surprise him and take him into the field away from Fanny to do the ‘job’. At the last minute they chicken out and pay the husband to disappear forever and never come back. Back at the car, Fanny hears a shot and believes her husband to be dead.
End of part one, next episode is part 2.
.

What made you laugh out loud? Max and his Broomhandle Mauser.

What was your favourite part? Lord Love Rocket on stage of course!

Hmmmm. I think you'll find it hard to find any lass on this forum who disagrees with your favourite part!!!! ;) Yum!!! That's all I'm saying -- stopping now!!! ;)

I love the build up at the start between Paddy and Spencer:

"All those bored housewives gagging for it!!"
"My mum's a housewife."
"Really? Does she look like that??"
*smash*

Classic!!!

Oooh, and the tape part!!! Love the song anyway but it's the fact that as they're pulling away it seems to be the most important thing to Max to get the atmosphere right in the car!!! ;)

Some briliant outtakes came out of this bit too didn't they???

Fab review Brookster!!! (thumbs up)

I think Ian already sorted them for you -- I nicked that one from the review but you can never see it too many times!!! ;) I need to stop

And I don't think Mands would object to me posting this -- just in case you've not seen what we're talking about (and if that's the case why??? ;))

People who came to the Fundraiser may remember what Janice donated to the audition? It was some 'Love eggs' (as seen in this episode) And she signed the packet 'Sweet Jesus, love Holy Mary'. Fantastic!

We were in the bus on the way back to the hotel? :P

Back to the episode... I love Max with his 'Broom handled Mauser', when his brother says to him 'All I got was a space hopper, and that burst.', to which Max replies 'I know, I shot it.'

Han - July 22, 2006 10:49 PM (GMT)
The whole stakeout was fantastic too --

"I can't believe you shot my brother...."
"He'll live. It was only a flesh wound...."
"Casualty for 4 hours -- Mum's gonna go up the wall...."
"He'll be all right ....."
"He was s'posed to be shifting her fridge tonight...."

.... And the rest ....

And I am so sad to actually notice this -- but did anyone else see that Max's Volvo had two reg numbers -- I swear I had to do a double take!!!

Or have I just watched this ep one too many times!!! sos Purely from an artistic viewpoint -- honest!!!! ;)
