So here is the Little Britain Live review

My dad dropped me off to the Liverpool Empire and when I got in I went to the merchandise stall and bought myself a Vicky keyring. I got really excited when I find my seat. I was sitting right in front of the stage. I was completely star struck when the show started and there was David Walliams dressed as Lou right in from of me. I couldn’t believe it was him. He was definitely nice looking and tall. Then Matt made a Fantastic entrance dressed as Andy in his jet pack flying to his wheelchair. Brilliant. All of the sketches were brilliant but my favourite ones/moments were:

Carol Beer (computer said no) – with the old man walking so very slow and Carol told him to hurry up. As soon as he got to his chair she said that the holiday agency is close.

Vicky Pollard - there is no need for me to tell you about this sketch because as always she is just so brilliant. Her “yeah but no” was just for me.

Bubbles - well everybody were cheering for her the most because they all really love her especially when they were wooing for hair when she does her striptease.

Maggie and Judy - was really funny and in the end it made a lot of mess. I even have to crouch down and tried to cover myself because I thought Maggie was going vomit on us in front of the stage

Denis Waterman - this sketch even works when it is on stage but aww bless Matt and Dave who couldn’t stop giggling when they forgot their lines. So cute.

Ann – sang a Whiteney Houston song on star in your eyes. was a great and laughed when she goes berserk.

Marjorie Dawes – she was also fantastic. Given out some chocolates to the audience was so hilarious. They have to spat out the chocolates in the end hehehe. Even though I love to be offer a chocolate but was relieved that I wasn’t one of the unlucky ones that have to spat it out.

Sebastian and the Prime Minister - my highlight of the night. I was so happy to see the character I fell in love with. David being fully naked was worth watching.

Daffyd – did a brilliant musical number “I’m gay get over it”. it was really good. They should release it as a single.

The show was brilliant and I really enjoyed it a lot. It as a worth 2 years wait.

So here it is for anyone whose interested – The Report. There’s going to be randomness and wittering and spoilers and …… stuff. So I’ll apologise if that makes little or no sense. Any questions ask away and I’ll do my best to clarify!!!

So Tuesday morning rolled around quick as you like. I’d blagged the whole day off work from my boss (which she wasn’t seemingly very keen on but when you’ve been off for a week and it kicks off as soon as you walk through the door on Monday morning I’m not entirely surprised) and set off from home at 10am. After a quick pit stop at Welcome Break Services on t’other side of Huddersfield I got into Blackpool at 12:50pm and got lost trying to find some parking!!! Only I could get lost using Sat Nav!! Did see the back entrance of the Opera House which held some significance but we’ll get to the importance of that later!!

When I eventually got parked, which, might I add cost me a tenner in pound coins, I texted my mate Karen, who I was meeting later and decided to do a bit of exploring (we’ll get to the interesting stuff later!!!). Got in some window shopping, walked along the prom (although there was no brass band playing which was a tad disappointing – lies …. The song is all lies!!! ;) ) and bought way too much Blackpool rock. That killed about an hour and then I decided to get in some people spotting sat at a bus stop opposite the Opera House while I waited for Karen to turn up.

When she did arrive we decided to stake out the Opera House and try to establish where the likely escape routes were. This was because last time we went we were told we could have pics with the LB lads but they never showed – now transpires we may have been waiting in the wrong place – again, significance of that to come later!!!

We were given the name of someone to see about the possibility of organising pics and were told he’d be in at around 4pm, so we did some more window-shopping and took a walk down the prom again. Later found out the lads had been taping a segment on The Big One but we never quite got that far. Went back to see the stage manager guy to see if he could fix it for us (and no his name wasn’t Jim!!!) to get a couple of pics with the lads but never got past his PA. Again, gutting but we’ll get over it.

We disappeared off again, had some dinner, more shopping, some general chit chat on a bench and got offered tickets to see Richard Ashcroft by a tout (we declined!!!) – and went back into the Opera House at about half six.

Now the good part. And a warning – there WILL be spoilers so if you’re a fan and you don’t want to know what’s might be on the DVD, just go back to the board index now and look at something else!!!!

We’d met the merch guy at the last show and it seems we made an impression (well you would hanging around in sub zero temperatures in back alleys at 11:30 at night). He remembered us and while Karen was chatting to him David Walliams and Tony Head strode past us at top speed. I saw him but was totally speechless and rooted to the spot, and didn’t do ANYTHING except stand there with my mouth open. DOH!!! Karen never even noticed – well, she did but she didn’t reckon it was him and so ignored him completely, to which Jamie (merch guy) said “You missed that one!” to her cries of “What?? What’d I miss??” Needless to say she was more than a bit gutted when I broke the news to her!!

We headed round to the Stage Door in the auditorium and made ourselves at home until the show started. We kept looking out for Matt Lucas to arrive, and to see if David or Tony would re-emerge but they never did, but while we were there we did get to see the lovely Paul Putner, who posed for photographs and was a really good sport. We also saw Ruth Jones (Myfanwy) and Lisa Riley who came and sat down not 2 tables away from us, and who were kind enough to pose for photos too!!

The show kicked off at 7:30 with Ted Robbins providing the very funny warm up act. I’m guessing the whole experience is very similar to the recordings of the TV show, which he also provides warm-up for, but never having been to one I can only speculate. Unfortunately they were, as always, very strict about photos so there aren’t any really interesting ones to share ….

So anyway, Ted Robbins was on stage doing his bit and after about 10mins he said “I’ve been told to be quiet so they can do some laughter shots, so I’m going to tell you the gag about a girl lobster and a boy crab who fall in love ……etc” and he proceeded to act out this very amusing skit while 2 cameramen ran up and down the aisles recording audience reaction – surreal to say the least!!!

Eventually Ted leaves the stage and the show truly starts. All the usual favourites were there with lightning fast costume changes – appearances by Emily and Florence, Kenny Craig, Vicky Pollard, Lou and Andy, Mr Mann and Roy, Dennis Waterman, Des Kaye, Bubbles DeVere, Marjorie Dawes, Carol Beer, Linda the Councillor, Judy and Maggie, Mrs Emery, Sebastian, Anne and Daffyd and probably some I’ve forgotten, with a suitable smattering of comic asides and fluffs, and several jokes at the expense of Preston!! Although at times I did find myself drawn to the camera to be nosey at what they were filming – had quite a good view of that!! But anyway …..

The show was made even more special by the return of Tony Head as the PM (which had been played on the tour previously and brilliantly by Matt Lucas) and Ruth Jones’ return as Myfanwy. The night was finished off brilliantly with a hilarious song and dance routine featuring Daffyd and the entire cast in PVC, which got them a standing ovation at least from the crowd on our night!!!! All in all a fabulous show.

Afterwards we hung around to see if there would be a signing, but unfortunately there wasn’t, so Karen and I went back to the car. I dropped her back at the Opera House so she could get her taxi back to her hotel, and started to leave getting stuck behind one mother of a lorry. As I was waiting for the truck to move I looked to my right and saw the exit we should have been at last time. Congregated around it a smattering of young children, Ruth Jones, Tony Head and David Walliams’ car waiting to pull out and leave. I can safely say I assisted some lucky sods in getting their autographs, because I stopped bang in front of the thing so he had no option but to be sociable!!! I hope they appreciate it  I also spent 20mins driving out of Blackpool trying to get hold of Karen on her mobile – If I was going to be miffed so was she!!!!

It was a nice smooth journey back, motorway all the way and a bit of inadvertent speeding (what do you expect with 3 lanes of motorway all to yourself and Tony Christie singing Road To Nowhere on the stereo – yes, I had The Best of Peter Kay on there and back!!! Not necessarily appropriate but bloody brilliant!!!), arriving at home with cramp in my leg at 1am, straight into bed and out like a light. Still recovering even though I had the Wednesday morning off to catch up on some sleep!!!

Like I said – bloody brilliant night!!!

I have a very short memory so here is what I remember of Dave and Matt on Parky tonight with Elton and Bernie. I was amazed Elton was on first but it all knitted in rather well I thought.

Dave told about his across channel swim where he raised one million quid for Etheopia, many for the little girl children aged 5-15 who had been put on the streets and you know what I mean without spelling it out. He said if it had been just him he would have given up but all he had to do when the going got tough was to think of those poor young girls and he kept swimming, I got all tearful about that, bless him.

Elton had sponsored him a fair bit and had been a lot of support to him.

But then we had a lot of fun whacky moments with Elton, Matt and Dave and clips from various things where they had taken off Elton and Bernie. Matt said he was finally tying the knot with his partner who he loved dearly and Dave said he had no plan at the moment but he loved Denise van Outen and they had an understanding that if neither of them had married in 2 years they would marry each other (I think he likes her) and so far 6 months had passed. He said he is up for it but Matt said he's not sure she is!

They talked about the Christmas special which looks good, it's 2 half hours and according to Matt Bubbles has an affair with Ronnie Corbett...

Now THAT I would love to see.

I am rather confused by David and Matt... I really just cant stand Little Britain... it does nothing for me... but when I see these guys interviewed they always come across as really funny... last time they were on Parky was great as well... seeing Parky's face when David snogged Will Young !!!! I just wish I could enjoy their TV show as much... and now they're gonna go and have Peter in it....

Han - September 17, 2006 11:21 AM (GMT)
Don't worry Dawn -- Little Britain's an acquired taste -- I didn't really get into it until late in it's first year!!! Never even saw it when it first aired, but between you, me and the gatepost ...... and ... the ... forum ...... it's steadily got worse. Series 3 was a bit hit and miss for me!!

Juliet - September 17, 2006 11:33 AM (GMT)
A friend of mine went to see Matt and Dave at one of their book signing and she never saw Little Britain. Now she got a crush on Matt and asking me to bring to DVDs at her house so that we can watch it together
