I  Laurel and Hardy (Excit) so much so that my youngest son is called Hardy!

My cousin used to have a cafe bar in Kensington called Laurel and Hardy, right next door to Heart Radio so he often has stars pop in for a butty and to watch some L & H on the several TV's there. One day I went there and Princess Di had been in the day before and I sat in her seat..my claim to fame... :P

Nice one marlene!

I've only just started getting into them, it think the humour is amazing and for the era it was made i think its fantastic, I think these 2 were a blueprint for many comedians we have today.

Ps. I'd love to visit that butty shop! :P

One of my favourite pics of the boys! Just look at olivers face!

These 2 where the best of friends for most of their lives and when ollie (the fat one) died, stan had a nervous breakdown and never acted again. How sad! :( :( :(

That really is sad, I never knew that. Poor guy, they must have been really close. :(

Johnny - August 19, 2006 09:34 PM (GMT)
Oh haze where they! Stans daughter (who is still alive) said that oliver was like a second dad to her because they were so close.

Stan got offred to be in its a mad mad mad mad mad world but turned it down because he was so depressed. How could he perform without his partner?

Great thread Kay1!!!! You certainly know your stuff about them, I'm impressed ma friend (thumbs up) I too love Laurel and Hardy and so does my brother in law. He has a full set of L&H videos it looks pretty impressive on display at thier house I can tell you. And I totally agree, absolute classic comedy genius' fantastic!!!! If there are to be any repeats on TV it should certainly be the classic comedies like L&H!!!

Oh yes, when i 'discover' something i just need to research everything! Call me sad but i find it fasinating!

They do show Laurel and Hardy on raj tv on sky i think. But my mum and dad said when they were young they always used to show them at christmas, how cool would that of been!

They were inspiration to a lot of comics including Norman wisdom, lee evans and bottom. Just goes to show! :D

Great stuff!!! I'm the same too especially when it comes to anything to do with music or any new singers, bands etc I find particularly brilliant and inspiring. Norman Wisdom is a legend too, I love him he's ace!! I might start a thread about him soon, but I don't really know as much about him as you do about L&H

By the way, If you want to view these fine comedians in action, then i suggest you get down to the shops and buy one or two of their classics!

I reccomend HMV for this as the dvds are only £7! Bargain! My personal faves are 'sons of the desert', 'way out west' and 'the music box' which won an oscar for best short film in 1932!

Here's the link if you fancy a laugh! HMV

icklebelter - August 23, 2006 12:43 PM (GMT)
Thanks for that Johnny!! Gawd there's loads!!! And there's an offer of 3 for £15 which is good I think. But there's so many to get, I know my brother in law has all the vidoes but they're still calssics. It'd be great if they had a boxset, bet it'd be expensive though eh?!!

The box set is £200 in HMV! I know what a rip off!

You can get it on amazon for £80 cheaper i think though.

Yer there's tons of films arn't there, I've actually got the box set myself and there are 280 plus films alltogether, I havn't even viewed all of them yet and i've had it since christmas!

icklebelter - August 23, 2006 12:58 PM (GMT)
Woooaah!!! Just found the boxset on Amazon and it looks fab!! I seriously need to win the lottery hehehe Thanks Johnny!! (thumbs up)

Just found this montage of one of their funniest film! Porbably my favourite! They have to dodge there wives to go to a convention. A bit like homer simpson with the stone cutters.

Check it out here

Heres another vid that you probably won't watch but i'm gonna post it anyway! :P

Its a film called Big Business and its a silent, which makes it even better in my opinion because the music is top of the class! This is there best silent ever and it has a christmas theme which were heading towards at the moment!

Give it a try you'll be suprised how funny a silent film can be!

Big Business

 Cheers for them, I've just thought of another one

Stan:Where's your wife?
Ollie: She's in Chicago with her mother
Stan:Is she having a nice time?
Ollie: Why sure....(pause)... I DON'T CARE IF SHE'S HAVING A NICE TIME OR NOT!

CLASSIC!

Oh and have you seen that Orange advert? That is Oliver singing!

Got yourself a kindred spirit there m'love!!! ;)

I'm not an L&H fan -- though that may be because I've never watched one of their flicks, but those pictures sound like something to look forward to Lozza!!! Get 'em posted m'dear!!!

There's a lot of Laurel & Hardy fan clubs scattered around the world.
Quite a few in the U.K. (Sons of The Desert - The Laurel & Hardy Appreciation society)

Each Group (or 'Tent' as the official term goes) takes their name from one of their films.

A lot of them have monthly meetings, where they get together in the pub and watch Stan & Ollie all night.

Very good fun too.

If you're intersted in anymore info. , let me know!

:)
