Title: Belfast - The Official Tale
Sam1 - October 2, 2006 03:47 PM (GMT)
Ok, so after dragging myself out of bed this morning, full of a cold and what feels like the start of a chest infection, I'm finally here to tell you all about Belfast.
So, slight bit of background before I start so you all understand what I'm on about. I live in Dublin, which is about 110 miles from Belfast. Originally I'm from Lancashire, but aged just 21 I decided I wanted to travel the world. Ten years later I've got as far as Dublin. Ah well. As most of you already know I was supposed to be going to Belfast with my now ex boyfriend, and having paid a small fortune for the hotel, and nobody else available to go with me, I decided to go on my own. This is a huge thing for me as I never do anything on my own, let alone drive all the way up to Belfast and stay in a hotel. So anyway........
Left Dublin around lunch time, and it was raining, not heavily but enough. Got as far as Dundalk and the heavens opened so then spent the rest of the drive literally crawling along and hardly able to see a thing. Found the hotel alright and yes it was very posh indeed. Had a quick look around the bar area hoping to do a touch of celeb spotting, but just saw a load of ancient American tourists. Went off to get something to eat and then hoped in a taxi up to the Waterfront Hall.
Now for those who have never been to Belfast, it's only a very small city, and has changed alot since I first moved to Ireland. It's now very cosmopolitan and there is mass development. The Waterfront Hall is, well like it says, on the water front, but it's kind of in the middle of nowhere, and there isn't much else near it. The taxi driver dropped me off and then pointed out to me what direction I should head in when I came out as I wouldn't get a taxi outside there.
Went off inside, got a programme and a drink then went and took my seat.
Rod was very good, although he tried doing an Irish accent and it wasn't very good. I think he confussed a few of the locals by them not having a clue what accent he was trying to do.
Then the lovely Paddy came on and got a brilliant reception. I dare say I don't have to tell you all much about his set cause I dare say that most of you know it off by heart by now, so you know it's good. Although a few of his jokes where lost on some of the locals as they didn't get the northern england references. I did and laughed my head off, and I think the bloke next to me thought I was slightly mad laughing when nobody else was.
So, the two biggest laughs of the night..........
1. Some little s**t of a scum bag kid sat in the front row (I refer to him as this for very good reason that you'll find out later), and Paddy spotted him quite early on and realised that he was only about 14, but took great pleasure in ripping him to bits as he was a very cocky kid. But then did make it up to him at the end by giving him the red horns from his head. Ah bless.
2. Paddy was doing the joke about kids wearing hoodies in shopping centres. He wasn't getting much of a reaction from the audience, not that it was a crap gag but because they didn't have a clue what he was on about - hoodies aren't a problem in Ireland. Then he asks the audience if hoodies are banned here, and the audience is silent (poor Paddy was probably wondering what he was doing wrong here), until a guy in the audience pipes up that it's not hoodies that are banned it's balaclava's, to which everyone in the audience is laughing and cheering. Paddy got the point and also nearly fell over laughing.
So, end of the show and I make my way outside, and it's not just raining, it's absolutely throwing it down. We are talking the type of rain that bounces and sprays everywhere and no matter where you shelter you get wet. So I thought, ok, I'll wait around here for a bit taking shelter and hopefully Paddy will come out. I asked the bloke on the door and he said that he should be out soon. Happy days thinks I.
At this point I realise that little s**t kid is running around outside with the horns on his head and being a bit of a pain in the arse basically with a little gang of his mates. After waiting for about 20 minutes, I'm cold, wet and getting fed up with the little brat, but as the rain is still coming down really heavily there was no way I was moving. There weren't too many people left outside at this stage and a bloke stood near me asked if Paddy had come out yet. The guy said no.
So I waits a bit longer, resisting the urge to clock the little brat round the head, then the guy on the door starts locking up, somebody asks where Paddy is and are told he's gone. Not happy. So very cold and wet by now I decide to make a run for it and try and flag a taxi. Just as I'm putting my jacket over my head the little s**t or one of his brat friends runs up behind me and pinches the programme from under my arm and legs it. A man stood near me tried to catch hold of them but they ran off.
As you can now imagine I'm not impressed and the venue is locked up so I can't even go back in to get another. But I thought I still have plan B, Paddy might well be in the hotel bar. So the very kind man who tried to catch the kids asks me if I'm getting a taxi, I told them where to and him and his mate come with me to get a taxi and drop me off on their way home.
Back at the hotel, and once dried off I feel brave enough to sit in the bar and have a drink on my own. I waited till near midnight, fought off all the very drunk idiots and then gave up with no sign of Paddy, chances are that he wasn't staying there after all.
So apart from the show being great, Belfast was a bit of a disaster for me, and now I'll probably be ill all week for my trouble.
:(
Loads of Love to all from a very sick and sad Sam (with about a million spelling mistakes, but I can't be bothered to look!)

HAHA, I'm laughing my head off at the fact you said 'I could have clocked the little brat round the head'!! If that had have been me, I'd have probably done the same, hehe!
:D :D
Glad you had a fun night inside the venue, but it's a shame you didn't get to meet Paddy because of that stupid, annoying brat of a kid. And he should have given you your tour programme back. He should have come out though to all you waiting fans that were cold, wet and miserable... *ahem*
If you want, the pics from the tour programme are
HERE if you haven't seen them already.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

xx-lozza-luvs-paddy-xx - October 2, 2006 04:39 PM (GMT)
Aww i feel so sorry for you!! What a mean kid! Well atleast you got to see the man himself on stage! Maybe you can mee him face to face another time!
Sam1 - October 2, 2006 04:51 PM (GMT)
Well I think after the ordeal I went through just to get to see him in Belfast, he now owes me a show in Dublin, and a guaranteed piccy and hug afterwards. Or if he wishes to coordinate our diaries (thumbs up) we can do the show and piccy when I next go back over to his neck of the woods :)
gemma - October 2, 2006 05:11 PM (GMT)
Aw i can't believe that kid! I'm acctually glad Paddy was mean to him!! Go Paddy (thumbs up) hehehe
Johnny - October 2, 2006 05:34 PM (GMT)
Awww sam thats awful!
How dare those little brats nick your programme! They got the devil horns for christ sake what more do they want! God paddy should of done that part of his act where he trys to shake there hand from the stage and just before he goes to shake it paddy pulls it away and gives him the finger! That would of put him in his place!
God it sounds the show was good though loved the bit where the guy mentioned the balaclavas! I can understand why paddy started having a laughing fit, I would be too! Its weird how different parts of the country have different problems! Mainly little 14 year old gits!
I reckon one of the forum members who has a programme to spare should kindly donate a copy to our sam! Come on! I would but i didn't buy one! I know i'm tight wadded!
Leslie - October 2, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
I only bought one but, as it's signed, I'm not gonna give it up that easily. I posted the tour programme pics earlier on but, like kay1's already said, I'm sure some of the forum people who have more than one tour programme would be more than happy to give theirs up.
I would if I had another but I don't. Sorry, Sam.

He did that to him and cause the kid was so cocky about it he kept on doing it to him.

Really sorry to hear that you had such a bad time waiting to see Paddy etc.
I have a spare programme which you would be more than welcome to have for free. It's not signed unfortunately but you would be more than welcome to have it.
If you would prefer to get one from someone else who could maybe get it signed for you then that's fine...in fact I can text Han now and ask her to get you one at tonights show in Plymouth...but as I say if not and you can't manage to get one elsewhere then you are more than welcome to have my spare programme.
