Title: Charity Hair Cut For The Rnib
Description: Long, long hair...long, long gone!
ellie - January 27, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
I'm more of a reader than a poster on here, but I do like it here. Anyway, reason for this post is that I'm trying to raise a bit of money for the RNIB.
I've not had a hair cut for 11 years and finally I've decided to go for the chop!
My hair is 43" long, but not for much longer. It's all going to happen on the 10th April.
The reason I've chosen to raise money for the RNIB is that my Dad lost his sight to glaucoma. He was blind for about ten years before his death in 1999. I'm doing this in his memory.
If you'd like to sponsor me, you can do it
hereThanks so much for this folks. :)
Oop, my real name is Kerry - just in case anyone is easily confused, like me!(Thanks to Han, who suggested posting this on here and to Ian for letting me. Bless the pair of you.)
Han - January 27, 2007 08:50 PM (GMT)
You do realise we want before and after pics, right!! ;)
ellie - January 27, 2007 09:04 PM (GMT)
Of course!
I've got a guy lined up from work to do photos.
You're not the only one who wants them. The RNIB site want to do a piece on me for the website when it all happens. So much for me being camera shy!

All respect Ellie. I am going on a sponsored slim for Litle Hearts Matters so I know how important sponsorship is. My little grandson Max was born with just half a functioning heart and Little Hearts is a charity to help ewith research and making life easier for the parents and children with this.
My dad too had glaucoma before he died so I fully understand where you are coming from.
Firstly, how do we sponsor you? Also did you know that if the sponsor is a tax payer, the charity can get more money through gift aid? If you don't know already how, I can tell you more. Lets face it, if you are goign to lose your crowning glory, you might as well gt everything you are entitled to for your very good cause.
I must say you are brave. if I had grown my hair so long, I doubt I could do it so all power to you!
(thumbs up)

gemma - January 28, 2007 10:42 AM (GMT)
Best of luck with it Kerry, your so brave to have it cut after 11 years!!!!
ellie - January 28, 2007 05:18 PM (GMT)
Marlene - I'll take all the help I can get. Thankyou. I was going to say, I'm going in blind, but maybe that's not the right choice of words!Oop.
I made my mind up to do it a couple of weeks since. I contacted the RNIB fundraising team and they put me onto 'Just Giving'. It's a simple enough site for me to set up, and well, anything simple works for me.
We have two local papers where I live, so now I'm starting to accept sponsors, I'm gonna talk to them this week hopefully.
I'm going to put forms in every shop that'll let me. Puppy dog eye approach!
I'll get everyone at work, and considering I work in a community centre, they're used to stuff like this. The MP's office is based with us too, so he should be good for a few quid! Gonna send my brother around his work too.
Then the family, friends, neighbours. By god, I'm gonna be busy.
Love to little Max. He's a bonny little 'un.
You'lldo4me! - Hey thankyou. I'm having a more month than money phase myself. Been forking out for tickets and such like.
I'm just dead touched with any sponsoring, it really does mean the world to me. Last time I did a sponsored anything I was at school and I remember being very excited when I reached £20. This is massive for me, trying to get £750.
Aye, I'm coming to Manchester too. The hair will still be long at that point. So you can see the before in real life!
Gemma - Oooh, I know. That's the reaction I've had from people I've told round here too. It kinda does need to go though. It's reaching a point where I'm getting it caught on door handles and my cat plays with it if I'm sat on the floor. She'll miss it if nothig else.
icklebelter - January 28, 2007 07:02 PM (GMT)
You brave, brave bunny you!!!! I have to say I think you're fantastic for doing this, and I will deffo sponsor you (thumbs up) All the best with it, I know I couldn't do it

Mel - Hey, thank you. I'm beginning to have a bit of an attack of the nerves about it myself now. I went to the press this afternoon, and they did all the 'Oooh, but you can't' kind of thing. Not helping there peeps! So come Thursday I'll have my mug plastered all over the papers. I'll post the articles when they come out.
Dinkdankdo! - Thank you as well. Sponsorship is ticking in now. Managed to get £25.50 today just by calling a shop where I used to work and seeing a couple of mates.
My photo I'm taking to the hairdresser is this one:
click. Bit of a drastic change!

Today's Hair News:
Went to see a press photographer, so I had to sit there and be pretty, well try to be, y'know. So come Thursday I'm going to be on every doormat in town. I think I'm dreading the piccies more than the event itself.
Running total on sponsorships is now an amazing £102.50!! I'm so touched by peoples generousity to my little cause. It's fantastic.
Another update after I've 'gone to print' and most likely into hiding!
:) :) :)
dinkdankdo! - January 31, 2007 01:13 AM (GMT)
:) good to see youre getting sponsors and lots of support, and youve got til april so things are lookin good eh? (thumbs up) i like the pic, sure its gonna be nice,i love Pink! Is there a min/max amount a person can sponsor you for?? Been passing the word around so hopefully that might bag you a few more sponsors(fingers crossed)
GOOD LUCK
ellie - January 31, 2007 06:37 PM (GMT)
As far as I can tell there's a minimum sponsor on the site of £2.00. Don't think theres a maximum...so be as generous as you like! I'm happy with any little bit though, it all adds up.
Thanks for telling people for me, the more that know, the more I might end up with.
:)
dinkdankdo! - January 31, 2007 11:34 PM (GMT)
:) you are welcome chick,il put in my sponsor in sometime next week (thumbs up)
ellie - February 2, 2007 10:20 PM (GMT)
Well it came and went, my moment in the press.
Good thing was that it created a lot of interest and sponsors. I'm up to £215 now. I'm amazed, 'cos that's only in the space of a week.
Anyway, one of the papers I was a bit hacked off with 'cos they printed the web address wrong. Not a happy bunny here.
The other paper wrote a longer article even though at first they call me 'Kelly' before getting it right.
I hate the photos, but I'm very camera shy. I was dreading this more than anything, and some bloke I know saw me in town and said 'cr*p photo' Thanks for that mate. Magic.
Anyhow it's done now.

Go that girl!!! (thumbs up) (Excit)
ellie - February 2, 2007 11:35 PM (GMT)
I know, I'm amazed.
I keep saying it, I'll sound like a cracked record soon, but hey, never mind.
This is phase one y'see. There is a phase two once all the initial excitement had died down.
With it being for the RNIB, I'm going to target the opticians and the Eye Specialist at the hospital. Hoping they'll let me put sponsor forms out.
dinkdankdo! - February 3, 2007 02:26 AM (GMT)
:) ooh get you, little Miss Celeb!!
thats some seriously long hair you have, glad to hear you got more sponsors, youre doin great (thumbs up) and by the way thers nothing wrong with the pics
^_^ good idea about opticians
ellie - February 10, 2007 04:06 PM (GMT)
Well, I'm up to £315.57 now.
It's ticking along much better than I expected. Got a mate who goes to a lot a communtiy groups. So he's been collecting like a boy possessed for me.
I got recognised up at the hospital and by a gang of kids outside the newagents the other week. It's very surreal. I'm not cut out for this celeb lark.
dinkdankdo! - February 11, 2007 10:42 AM (GMT)
