Title: Dave Spikey Does Charity Gig For Bears
icklebelter - February 2, 2007 09:44 PM (GMT)
Just thought I'd post this article which was in tonights Bolton Evening News :) Nice one Dave, well done (thumbs up)
Spikey shows he's a 'bear's best friend'
A SELL out gig by Bolton comedian Dave Spikey has raised £6000 for an animal charity.
The Phoenix Nights star performed a stand-up show at Brindley Theatre, in Runcorn, for the Animals Asia Foundation (AAF).
The gig, organised to highlight the plight of "moon bears", was a sell out, with more than 400 people attending.
advertisementDave told the audience about his own plan to visit the AAF Vietnam sanctuary later this year to help rescue Spikey, a bear named after him.
Thousands of endangered moon bears, also known as Asiatic black bears, are imprisoned in cages on farms across China and Vietnam.
They are milked for their bile, used in traditional medicine, through catheters inserted in to their gall bladders.
Jill Robinson, founder of AAF said: "It is thanks to Dave that the plight of the Moon Bears is touching people's hearts and helping us to bring this cruel and unnecessary industry to an end .
"He is truly a bear's best friend."

Hello. How are you? I am fine. After the success of the recent charity show in Runcorn I've decide to do another "Audience With" at Bury Met . For those of you who came to Runcorn you will be interested to know that you helped raise over £6.5k which all goes to Animals Asia and will definately be enough to save a bear. Thanks so much. Hope you enjoyed the "Audience with" formula - it was a tiny bit hit and miss and I need to organise my responses it a bit better but as I did around 1hr 20min on the night I hope that it wasn't too disjointed and there were more hits than misses and I didn't go on too long. I'm trying to squeeze in new material which is always difficult so just a reminder that there will be some older stuff as well. Anyway Burys only small (220 seats) and I'm doing it for "Pet Rehome" and the box office number is 0161 761 2216
He doesn't apppear to mention the date, but it's 11th March if anyone's interested? I'll be on my way back from Manchester after seeing some fella in drag......... ;) (Excit)

Well, y'know. If you're willing to leave the kids with your Mum for an extra night, take a days hols Monday and wouldn't mind kipping at our place Sunday night, no reason why you can't join us if they're up for it!!
Or even if they're not. Leave 'em in the car ...... crack the windows ...... they'll be reet!! ;) :P  (OOO)
You'lldo4me! - February 3, 2007 08:24 PM (GMT)
Awww mate I'd love to, but I really can't. We have soo much reorganisation going on at work right now, I'd be on a real non-starter so far as hols are concerned - at least until we get a bit more sorted - and Ryan's staying with his dad on the Saturday (under extreme duress I can tell ya!) An extra night...... *shakes head* Never mind- there'll be other times mate, but thanks for the offer (hug)

On the plus side -- at least by then they'll be old enough to look after themselves!! Anyway, by then the housing market will have crashed and they'll be able to afford their own place -- that's all that's stopping me!! ;)
Anway ...... where were we ......?? Oh yes. Dave Spikey. Top Notch. Go that man!!! (thumbs up) Must find out if people want to go ......

Never been to Manchester on Bury, but I'm sure we'll find something.
Yep, I'm easily recognised. Never knew the ol' locks came in so useful. That's my usual line whenever I make plans to meet someone. 'Just look for the longest hair in the room' I seem to remember saying that to you Han. What am I going to do when it's gone?!

And I think you added "it's bright red at the moment!" or words to that effect!!!
You can still go for colour with your new do???
ellie - February 22, 2007 08:00 PM (GMT)
Oh aye. Who could forget the now infamous post box red look?! I'd done that for a gig a couple of days prior.
I think when I first have it done, I might stay natural for a bit. Give it...ooh...3 days and I'll most likely be at the dye again.

Well I don't think you need to worry about where you'll be sat at Bury Met as you can see pretty good wherever you sit. It's a really small venue as Dave mentioned in the quoted post from another forum. I went to see Paddy at all his warm up gigs there in 2005, and it was a very small, intimate venue... I'd descibe it as being like a college lecture hall LOL  A bit like the theatre where Jason Manford was at The Lowry when us lot went, but a bit bigger than that one at The Lowry... if that makes any sense??
Not long now though eh folks, hope you all have a fab time, although I'm sure you will. Does anyone know whether or not Dave will be having a support act with him for this gig? If so I do hope it's Steve Royle again as he's fab!!!!!

No Steve Royle I'm afraid Mel, more's the pity!! It was a mexican band of some description that I can't for the life of me remember the name of !!!
Suffice it to say was a very good night, intriguing hints though as to the possibility of more stuff from him. At the end he did some new material centred around the ridiculous lrics some song have, and did say, I quote "I'll edit them a bit for next time ......" *Hopes for a tour*
He also mentioned he's written a couple of new bits -- something about a Saturday league football team and another one about a group of blokes who buy a vineyard?!?!?! Some bits to look forward to.
I got photos (plenty of which I think make up for the lack of photo-ness I took at The Producers!!!!) which I'll post up when I've downloaded them off the camera!! (thumbs up)
Han - March 12, 2007 11:08 AM (GMT)
Photo linkage
here!!!As per, some good'uns. Some bad'uns. I swear the bloke wanders around the stage almost as much as Paddy  but there are some reasonable ones there!! I didn't want to distract him (like some people who incidentally almost blinded him in the first 2 minutes!!!) so they were flash-less. Not come out badly for that really.
dinkdankdo! - March 12, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
:) Was a great night didnt know what to expect, but really enjoyed it,deffo see him again
sorry Han and Ellie (kerry) if i was a little brief, didnt log on to arrange a "proper" meet, had a hectic weekend to say the least, and to say a had a hangover was an understatement, recognised you from the pics on 'ere,so just thought id nip over and say "hi",nice to finally meet some of you forum people at last

Your pics are fab Han!!!! Thanks for sharing them, and glad you had another great night :D

Han, your photo's are brilliant love. (Note to self: Learn how to use camera properly before next event!) Ta for showing me how to turn the flash off.
Still made no difference though...
look... Nuff said, eh.
Lovely to meet you too Lindsey. I'll be honest love, I forgot. (Diabolical memory - forgive me) Next time though eh. By then I will also remember what my forum name is!
Band was called pancho something-or-other. That's not a lot of help is it, sorry. ;)
