COMEDY superstar Peter Kay sprung a welcome surprise on departing Magic Radio breakfast DJs Spence MacDonald and Mike Maguire.

The broadcast duo are to take over the late show at Manchester's Key 103 - and on their last day at Magic opened the phone lines for listeners to say their farewells.

And who should be among the callers, but a certain Mr Kay from Bolton.

Mike tells me: "People were ringing in to say cheers for the last three years and that sort of thing.

Breakfast show

"At about five to ten - as we were about to finish our last breakfast show - we took a call and it was Peter Kay, of all people.

"He said, 'who am I going to listen to now?' It turns out he's a a radio anorak and had been listening to us all these years."

The DJs now hope that celebrity fan Peter will continue his support as they move to the other end of the day for a new show at 10pm to 1am on Key - MacDonald and Maguire's Late Night Line Up.
