Title: Primetime Tv Push

Ian - July 4, 2007 04:24 PM (GMT)
Random House has bought up primetime TV advertising slots to launch the paperback of Peter Kay's The Sound of Laughter. An ad directed by Kay will be aired during Coronation Street this Friday and The Bill next Wednesday, both on ITV1. They will be followed with "targeted" slots ahead of comedy shows on the digital channels ITV2, UKG2 and E4. The ad will also be posted online.

Claire Round, marketing director of CHA, said: "These are ITV1's two highest-rating shows, meaning the ad will reach an audience of over 10 million people by these two showings alone... TV advertising is still pretty rare for books, and that which does happen tends to take place on the digital network. Obviously a campaign of this size demonstrates our huge expectations for the paperback, following the incredible 1.2 million copies sold in hardback."
In the ad, Kay's head falls off and Bullseye host Jim Bowen pops up in his place to announce deadpan that the book is "so funny you'll laugh your head off".

Thanks for that Ian ;) I don't know about anyone else, but I saw the paperback version of his biography at WHSmith in Manchester Airport when I was on my way to Vancouver the other week.... bit late for a 'launch' then LOL Not too sure about what the ad will be like myself, sounds a bit too 'cheezy'.... please don't hit me anyone LOL (OOO)
