Title: No New Show?

Ian - February 11, 2009 10:13 PM (GMT)
We reported a couple of months back that Peter would be writing a new tv show about a bin man. Unfortunately today, The Sun has said that the show is no longer going ahead.

Peter Kay’s new TV show has hit the skids – after the comic fell out with writer Craig Cash over money. The pair had been working on comedy drama series Sunshine, with Peter starring as a bin man. ITV hoped to screen it as one of the main highlights of their spring schedule next year.

It would have been Peter’s first TV series since 2004’s Max And Paddy’s Road To Nowhere. But production was halted after Royle Family star Craig and Peter had a bust up — said to be over the show’s budget. An insider said: “Sunshine is pretty much dead in the water — Peter isn’t doing it.

“Things were going well but when it came to discussing the budget things went a bit sour. “People at the top of their game, like Peter, don’t come cheap so a show like Sunshine needed a big budget to make everyone happy.” As one of Britain’s favourite comics Peter commands huge fees — he once jokingly called his stand-up tour Mum Wants A Bungalow. Craig was writing the show with pal Phil Mealey and producing it through his company Jellylegs Productions. He and Phoenix Nights star Peter had been in talks with ITV, the BBC and C4 about the project.

ITV bosses were over the moon after landing it as Craig usually works for the BBC, while Peter is a key C4 face.

ITV has been trying to get Peter Kay on board for years.

An ITV spokesman said last night: “We were interested in the show but it isn’t happening any more.”
