Title: Forum Roleplaying
Description: If interested, please read...

Evidently I'm not allowed to post in the Mordax only forum, so I'm posting here instead. This seems like a simpler method to decide than about a billion conflicting anonymous polls with more options than voters:
Forum Roleplaying: What do you guys want to play?
I've never done this before so I'd rather stick to setting which I'm at least slightly familiar with, although having said that, I would be open to suggestions if someone could recommend a system they've tried before.
A few suggestions off the top of my head which I'd be willing to play in:
Star Wars, Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Ravnica, Call of Cthulu (victorian era), Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40k, Planescape, Middle Earth
I think it's quite important that we chose something which most people have heard of, and have a moderator who knows a reasonable amount about it.
If you would be intrested in participating in an online roleplay, please post below, along with a list of settings you would be willing to play in and any suggestions you have. Once the setting has been decided we can work out the details later, and hopefully by the end of the week we can find an option which people can agree on.

Call of Cthulhu would be fun, lots of character interaction and investigation, with relatively little combat.
Star Wars also has possibilities. Its a big universe and can incorporate almost anything you want to do.
However, there were no bad suggestions on your list, and I'd be happy to take part in any on them.

I think what needs to happen, is for a prospective moderator to say "If I run a [insert theme] forum roleplay, who would like to play it?"
If he/she gets a positive response then it goes ahead.
In my opinion this would work a lot better than the democratic process being used at the moment, which will take a long time to compile and then create something based on all the choices.
This way we could get something started relatively quickly, which I'm sure most people would prefer, as there is definately much support for the online rpg.

I think neondragon's idea is slightly more practical. That way we know who is willing to run something and what, rather than us all deciding we want to play something only to find out no-one is willing to run it.

I guess so, but then no-one seems to be particularly forthcoming. I though if we assembled a list of which people would definitely be interested in playing, and in what settings, then prospective Gm's would be more confident to suggest something.
So if everyone interested would kindly indicate below...

ok, I'm just going to give in and miss a full night of sleep tommorow to create a mass of characters and play out a long example of what a world RPG is so that you can decide for yourselves why such ideas are impractical
The polls by the way are working, and they will eventualy arrive at a theme that will have enough players and be able to run for a long time
And its not a Mordax only forum, you're all capable of discussing things in the threads there

OK. Lets give it a go. I would be happy to moderate a Call of Cthulthu, freeform game.
Any interested players out there.

This works perfectly fine for Thread Based RPGs,if people can get enough players who want to try a Thread Based of a specific theme then I'll create them a thread in the Roleplays board
This doesnt however work for World MMOs because they require an entire board, and 2 sub boards dedicated to them, prefereably with multiple DMs, I doubt that we could support more than 1, 2 at the absolute most
This is why I'm using pols rather than a single discussion thread for that, we cant have a World RPG based upon what the most people would most like to do (we'd already have set up a Ravnica one probably), we have few people as far as world RPGs go, so dropping even a few because they wont play a theme means that it no longer works, we need to find something that everyone is at least willing to play, rather than something that more people would be very enthusiastic about, but that a few would not play
There is a further constraint on the World RPG, and that is that myself as the DM must set events every so often to introduce twists and keep the game interesting, setting events such as this requires a detailed knowledge of the world the RPG is set in
We couldnt for example start up a World RPG based around the Mech Warrior Universe, even if everyone else wanted to do one, because I know diddely squat about the Mech Warrior universe and would thus be unable to fill my role as DM and make working events
Now there is an alternative to this, which is that I step down from the position of DM over the world RPG and someone who knows more about the Mech Warrior Universe for example, step up and take over, but I certaintly dont see anyone with experiance in Forum World RPGs stepping forward
Now looking at the polls so far, the Aliens Universe is the one most likely to go forwards as things stand, because although it has fewer votes than any of the others, everyone so far has been willing to play it, I do know however that of all of the ones put forward to this stage, it is the one that I am least qualified to run
It would make things a lot easier on me if people would consider the worlds put forward as worlds, rather than the places they've come from, playing a fourm RPG set in Ravnica does not make you a Magic: The Gathering player for instance, and you would need no knowledge of Magic in order to play, the same goes for the other worlds I've been suggesting, and while I do apreciate that people would much rather stick to worlds that they know for the first time doing this, I would much rather put forward a more fulfilling roleplaying experiance for you
If we can find a pre-existing theme that absolutly everyone wants to do, I am willing to read up over easter become as knowledgable about that world as I can in time to start the RPG up for the 3rd term, and thats the timetable we're looking at for it right now
In any case, I'm going to be up quite late tonight posting up a large example of what we're aiming for out of these polls overall, as I gather there has been some confusion over the 2 different types of RPG and which sections of the forum aply to what and who would be running things, why and how, hopefuly I can answer all that tonight
If you look at it all tommorow and decide you dont want to do an RPG of this type, or look at it and decide that you want to change any of your poll votes, please private message me
In the case of changing a vote, please tell me what you were voting previously and what you would vote for now

Seems to me, the best way to sort all this out is to start running some game ASAP. We'll soon find out what works and what doesn't.

Hmm this thread seems to been inactive for a while, however if anyone is willing to take up kevs offer of a COC (Call of Chthulu) online interactive campaign then count me in. Personally I think I'd like to play a Harvey Walters type doctor (that way the stats and general character outline are all ready defined).
